Judge Manoj A issued the order on a petition filed by activist and lawyer Neyyattinkara P Nagaraj seeking dismissal of the vigilance report that favoured Ajith. The judge wrote that the 'enquiry officer' (Shibu), 'contrary to guidelines, prepared a report favouring the suspected officer to exonerate him.'
The court said the officer did not follow the Vigilance Manual mandate, particularly since an allegation was raised on amassing wealth, disproportionate assets and constructing a house for crores of rupees.

Pinarayi should relinquish Home portfolio, says Chennithala
Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has demanded that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan relinquish the Home department in view of the adverse judicial remarks against his office in a corruption case involving M.R. Ajith Kumar, Additional Director-General of Police. Mr. Chennithala told the media on Saturday that Mr. Vijayan had no authority to absolve Mr. Ajith Kumar in a case investigated by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB). He claimed that the Chief Minister had acted in an unusual manner against the Vigilance Manual and interfered in the inquiry report in an unauthorised way. He pointed out that the VACB and the Minister in charge of the department were supposed to abide by the Manual, as per which the inquiry report against Mr. Ajith Kumar should have been submitted in the court. Further proceedings were to be followed after the court examined the report. The Home Minister in charge of the VACB was authorised to interfere only in administrative matters. However, the prosecutor submitted the report in the court along with a note from the Chief Minister. This led to the adverse judicial remarks against him, Mr. Chennithala said. Meanwhile, the Congress leader also sought an inquiry against Public Works Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas in the wake of the recurring instances of bridges collapsing across the State. Mr. Chennithala said that at least three under-construction bridges had came crashing down in recent times, which was a result of gross corruption. The Left Democratic Front government, which was eager to file a case against former Minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju after some cracks were noticed on the Palarivattom bridge, was not all concerned about these incidents, he alleged.

UDF demands CM's resignation after court accuses political executive of subverting anti-corruption probe against ADGP
Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) Opposition stated that the court's 'damning indictment of the political executive for subverting a Vigilance investigation to exonerate Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, M. R. Ajith Kumar, from corruption accusations had deprived Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who holds the Home portfolio, the moral right to continue in office. Leader of the Opposition V. D. Satheesan noted that the court held that the 'superpower authority controlling' the VACB, which he claimed was an unambiguous allusion to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), devalued the Supreme Court's strictures and statutory principles of criminal procedure by conducting a pretence of a preliminary verification against Mr Ajith Kumar. Mr. Satheesan had earlier accused the officer of being a political insider, who allegedly intrigued with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leadership at the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government's behest, especially during the run-up to the 2024 general elections. Quoting Shakespeare, Mr Satheesan sought to press the UDF's case for Mr Vijayan's resignation. He mentioned the adage 'Ceaser's wife must be above suspicion' applied to Mr Vijayan. Mr Satheesan stressed that those in high office should uphold the law and appear to do so justly. He noted the court had flagged an 'invisible penetration by someone into the enquiry that led to the preparation of a report favourable to the suspect (Mr Ajith Kumar)'. Mr Satheesan observed that Kerala Congress (M) founder and Finance Minister in the Oommen Chandy government, K. M. Mani, had set an example by resigning in the wake of tumultuous 2013-14 bar bribery protests orchestrated by the CPI(M) and led by Mr Vijayan. 'Mr Vijayan should follow Mani's example', he added. KPCC president Sunny Joseph, MLA and UDF convener Adoor Prakash stated that political propriety demanded Mr. Vijayan resign forthwith. Meanwhile, the VACB's preliminary verification report, which discharges Mr. Ajith Kumar of illegal amassment of wealth, including the purchase of prime housing property in Thiruvananthapuram, profiting from unlawful felling of valuable timber on government property, and benefiting from police interdictions of contraband gold in North Kerala, surfaced on the public domain on Saturday. Subsequently, A Nagaraj, the public interest litigant who moved the court for an anti-corruption enquiry against Mr Ajith Kumar, filed a petition seeking punitive action, including forfeiture of the salary, against the Vigilance officials, who allegedly conspired to save the ranking office from prosecution by making a pretense of an investigation and accepting the suspect's words as incontrovertible truth.

South Zone Culture Centre officer booked for fraud
MADURAI: The Anti-Corruption Bureau of the Central Bureau of Investigation, Madurai, has registered a case against Meenakshi Natha Pillai, who works as accounts unit officer in the South Zone Culture Centre located in Thanjavur, and his five relatives, for allegedly misappropriating Rs 2.24 crore between 2019 and 2023. According to FIR, the case was filed against G Meenakshi Natha Pillai, his brothers G Sakthivel and G Subramaniya Pillai, sister G Thayammal, and sisters-in-law D Suba and K Subhashini Pillai. They have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act. In his complaint, the centre's director KK Gopalakrishnan alleged that Pillai engaged in corrupt, fraudulent, and unethical practices. Further, Pillai has been accused of operating five companies under his relatives' names, and using the companies to participate in the centre's tenders. He allegedly misused various funds by collecting quotations from these companies and becoming a successful vendor for the supply of goods to the SZCC, he said.
