Prayagraj: In the days to come, residents of Sangam City will be able to deposit house and water tax and even electricity bills, at ration shops. With the state govt modernising ration shops, 75 Annapurna Bhavans are proposed for Prayagraj, and land has already been designated for 63 of them.
These upgraded centres will offer free ration, daily essentials, and utility services such as property tax, water tax, and electricity bill payments, and even issue certificates. This initiative aims to simplify services for residents and boost income for ration shop operators, with govt approval expected soon for full-scale implementation.
In a significant step towards digital inclusion and service integration at the grassroot level, the Uttar Pradesh govt is planning to transform govt ration shops in Prayagraj into hi-tech multi-utility service centres.
This initiative is part of a broader plan to modernise the public distribution system (PDS) and enhance convenience for residents, particularly building owners, who will now be able to pay their taxes at nearby ration shops instead of visiting distant municipal offices.
According to district supply officer, Sunil Singh, to facilitate this, the govt has ordered the construction of 75 'Annapurna Bhavans' in Prayagraj.
These buildings will house the upgraded ration shops and will be equipped with computers and internet connectivity.
These Annapurna Bhavans will also sell essential commodities beyond ration items, including pulses, sugar, salt, and basic spices, to make them one-stop convenience centres. Plans are also underway to provide services like issuing birth and death certificates and accepting electricity bill payments.
"Discussions are ongoing at the govt level to finalise the inclusion of water and property tax services. Once the approval comes through, the district administration plans to prioritise implementation to ensure smooth access for citizens," said chief tax assessment officer of the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation, PK Mishra. He added that all efforts will be made to ensure that people face do not face any inconvenience while accessing these services.

Madhubani admin to invite online applications for lawyers' panel from Aug 25

Madhubani: In a move aimed at streamlining legal proceedings and ensuring timely responses in cases pending before the Patna high court, district administration has announced to constitute a dedicated panel of lawyers. This panel will handle matters including CWJC, MJC, and LPA cases. According to an official press release issued on Thursday, the administration will begin accepting online applications for inclusion in the panel starting Aug 25 via the district's official website. This initiative addresses persistent delays in the preparation of fact sheets and responses to court notices—delays that have often resulted in unfavourable judicial outcomes. The absence of a structured panel of lawyers has been identified as a key contributor to these issues. To ensure accountability and performance, a district-level committee constituted by the District Magistrate will conduct monthly evaluations of the lawyers' work. The panel list will be updated periodically based on these assessments. The committee also reserves the right to remove any lawyer from the panel without prior notice, as stated in the press release. Trichy corpn may curtail land acquisition for IBT link road

Trichy: Municipal administration minister K N Nehru on Thursday inspected the work for the IBT link road to connect various parts of Trichy city with the KKBT Panjapur through the banks of a river and canal. Trichy corporation sources said that the extent of land acquisition for the project is most likely to be curtailed but without any major alterations to the total length and width of the original plan. The work is undertaken in three phases, with phase I connecting KKBT vicinity with Karumandapam, phase II from Woraiyur to Kudamurutti bridge on Karur national highway, and phase III, the longest stretch from Karumandapam to Woraiyur. Administrative approvals for phases I and II were obtained at 81.7 crore and 68 crore respectively, but phase III proposed at 182 crore is making slow progress due to private land acquisition. Around 20.9 acres of land were slated to be acquired, however, considering the tedious process, the local body is inclined to restrict the land acquisition to around five acres. Multiple sources confirmed that the length and width of the two-lane link road will not be altered much. "We are trying to reduce the extent of land acquisition with a minor modification plan in short stretches so that the work for the pending phase will commence in a month's time without waiting for land acquisition," a source said. The total cost of the 9.9km long link road was estimated at 331.7 crore.
