Perth punter's Xmas in July surprise with winning scratchie
The Alkimos man and his wife walked out of the shops $300,000 better off after buying a Scratch 'n' Win ticket from The Lucky Charm Joondalup.
But the man first had to convince his wife that they had won.
'I said to my wife, 'We've just won $300,000',' the man, aged in his 30s, said.
'She said, 'No, we have not'. I said. 'Yes, we have'.
'We were jumping for joy, cheering, almost crying. And everybody in the store was congratulating us.'
The Lucky Charm Joondalup owner Parag Bhimjiyani said the excitement was infectious.
'The player was almost in tears,' he said.
'I gave him a hug. It's so special to be part of this big moment in someone's life.
'It's the first major prize my store has sold and hopefully the first of many.'
The winning couple celebrated with a family dinner at their favourite restaurant.
They plan to treat themselves to new computers to play their favourite video games.

Saturday Lotto: Two West Aussies win over $1m each, becoming instant millionaires
Saturday spelt defeat for both WCE and Fever, but two West Aussies have scored big in the lotto, winning life-changing amounts. The lucky pair were among the seven winners of the division one prize in the Saturday Lotto draw, the other five residing elsewhere in the country. Each winner will take home a monumental $1,428,571.43 each. The winning numbers were 24, 40, 43, 21, 45, 1 and the supplementary numbers were 16 and 9. It wasn't just in division one that West Aussies scored winnings, 11 players from WA have won a handy haul of $10,486.15 each. Saturday's huge wins come after it was revealed that Monday's Millionaire Medley winner was a West Aussie university student. The engineering student in his late twenties was in disbelief when he found out that he had won a division one prize of $1,000,000. 'I'll be paying all my uni fees upfront and I'm taking my girlfriend out for a chicken dinner to celebrate,' he said. In a heartwarming admission, the student claimed that he would use his winnings to pay all of his university fees, then celebrate in true student style. The student had only been playing Lotto for around six months and purchased the winning ticket from Riverton Forum Lottery Kiosk in Parkwood.

Taron Egerton laughs off 'strange' Wolverine rumours
Taron Egerton says rumours linking him to the role of Wolverine are "strange" and feel "like a joke". The Kingsman: The Secret Service star is regularly hit by gossip suggesting he could be in line to take over the X-Men character from Hugh Jackman - who has played Wolverine onscreen in various movies since 2000 - but Taron is adamant the speculation isn't based on anything solid and it resurfaces every time he strips off in a film. He told The Hollywood Reporter: "I feel like it happens every time I take my shirt off in a film. The truth of the matter is I don't look like that when I take my shirt off, unless it's in a film where the part needs me to look that way. "The Wolverine thing is almost like a joke at this point. Every time I have a project come out, there's a moment where people talk about it, and I'm the one person who is not qualified to talk about it. "It's quite strange, but it's flattering. It's always lovely to think that anybody would want you to play a beloved role, but I also think no one is ever going to accept anyone in that role other than Hugh Jackman. He's completely synonymous with it." In the interview, Taron also talked about his role in hit Netflix movie Carry-On, in which he played an airport Transportation Security Administration worker caught up in a blackmail plot on Christmas Eve, and insisted there are currently no plans for a sequel. He said: "Carry-On 2 is really hard. It's a celebration of Christmas and a celebration of people who work at Christmas. "It then needs to have this huge plot that needs to be foiled and maybe the earwig component. All of that is quite hard to achieve in a sequel without it feeling contrived and to the point of defying credulity. "So I have not heard anything, but who knows, stranger things have happened." Taron also insisted the role hasn't made travelling through airports more difficult for him. He said: "I took a photo with a TSA agent at the Dallas airport a couple days ago when I was traveling here to New York, and that was a really nice bit of symmetry. "But it's not like it's made travel impossible or anything. Generally, I get by pretty unnoticed."
