Hugo Ekitike meets new team-mates in Hong Kong the day after joining Liverpool
He arrived in time to watch the squad's open training at the Kai Tak Stadium in front of a crowd of 27,000 and at the end of the session walked onto the pitch to first greet head coach Arne Slot and then the rest of the players.

During the post-workout walkabout to acknowledge the crowd he spent a couple of minutes in conversation with captain Virgil van Dijk, alongside Andy Robertson.
'When you look at the four older players, the leaders – me, Ali (Alisson Becker), Virg and Mo (Mohamed Salah) – we take it upon ourselves to try to integrate them into the squad as quickly as possible,' Robertson told LFCTV.
'Especially when they are coming from different countries and cultures, it is about getting them up to speed as quickly as possible.
'On the pitch they look after themselves, they have so much quality and that is the pleasing thing.

'The lads already have settled in and Hugo has just come in so we'll have dinner tonight.'
Liverpool's first match of their tour is against AC Milan on Saturday but Ekitike's participation remains doubtful at this stage.

Alexander Isak rejects £96m transfer offer after Liverpool talks
Newcastle United striker and Liverpool transfer target Alexander Isak has rejected a stunning contract offer worth £600,000-a-week. Isak informed Newcastle last week that he wants to explore his options this summer despite having three more years on his current contract. Newcastle spent £63m on the Sweden international in 2022 and have seen Isak develop into one of the best strikers in the world. Isak is yet to join up with his Newcastle teammates on their pre-season tour in southeast Asia as he is reportedly managing a minor thigh injury. Liverpool have expressed interest in signing Isak since he revealed he was open to a summer move but Newcastle still want well over £100m for the striker. Arne Slot sanctioned Liverpool's £69m move for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike earlier this month but the Premier League champions are also interested in bringing Isak to Anfield. Isak has also attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League, with Al Hilal offering the forward a contract worth a stunning £32m-a-year tax-free with lucrative bonuses on top. As well as pocking £600,000-a-week over three years, Isak has been promised a further £3.6m for winning the Saudi Pro League and £1.75m for finishing as the division's top scorer, according to The Sun. Al Hilal finished second in the Saudi Pro League last season and recently poached Simone Inzaghi from Champions League finalists Inter Milan. Despite the incredible sums on offer, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Isak has rejected the approach from Al Hilal and informed the club he intends to remain in Europe. Liverpool will not come close to matching Al Hilal's contract proposal but can offer Isak the chance to win major trophies under Arne Slot. As well as signing Ekitike, Liverpool have bolstered Slot's Premier League champions with the signings of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe addressed the speculation over Isak's future ahead of the club's pre-season friendly against Arsenal on Sunday. 'He is now in Newcastle getting his injury assessed. Hopefully he will be back soon and playing in the black and white shirt, that's what we want to see,' Howe said. 'Of course there are things going on behind the scenes. Conversations that happen between Alex and ourselves and Alex and the club will stay private. 'He is very popular in the dressing room and would love him to continue his journey at Newcastle. There are no contract talks taking place, that will be for a later date, potentially. 'I certainly hope he stays. It's football, who knows what the future will bring.' Speaking after the game, which Arsenal won 3-2, Howe said there was 'no chance' that Isak would join the pre-season tour for Newcastle's final two games in southeast Asia. Ex-Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has predicted Isak will end up at Anfield and believes the club have been pursuing him behind the scenes for 12 months. 'I can only see Alexander Isak joining Liverpool if he does leave Newcastle, which is now expected,' he wrote in his column for CaughtOffside. 'I think this has been something that's been ongoing probably for 12 months or more. I think the expectation from Newcastle was that it was going to be next season that other clubs were going to bid. Watson reaches 100 caps for Scotland
Charlotte Watson celebrated her 100th cap for Scotland with a spectacular solo goal, but the Tartan Hearts were broken by a 4-3 scoreline in the second of two hockey Test matches with France at The University of Edinburgh Playing Fields at Peffermill. The 27-year-old, who also has 34 caps for Great Britain and competed in the Paris Olympics last year, forced a turnover just outside the French D and drove for goal, leaving the defence in her slipstream. Then the player, who has recently signed to join English club side, Wimbledon, calmy picked her spot before firing in the net after 22 minutes. The home side were 3-0 down at the time and that sparked a comeback which lead to the Scots equalising at 3-3 with a deflected goal from Sarah Jamieson (Watsonians) 12 minutes later for 3-2 and the leveller arrived from Katie Birch with ten minutes remaining. That was just after the French goalkeeper, Violette Ferront, made a superb pad save, sticking out her left leg to send the ball to safety. The aggressive French side, who held the Scots 1-1 in the first test at the same venue on Saturday after losing a practice game 2-1 at Peffermill on Thursday, netted through Yohanna Lhopital after 52 minutes following a penalty corner to stun the home side in their last competitive outing before the EuroHockey Championships in Germany next month. Delfina Gaspari had opened scoring after 1min 52sec, capitalising on slackness in the Scotland defence, and Eve Verzura scored again seven minutes later with LHopital making it 3-0, chipping the ball over the advancing Scotland goalkeeper, Jessica Buchanan, after 19 minutes making it a long way back for Scotland. The narrow win is undoubtedly a boost for France who are ninth ranked in Europe, two places below the Tartan Hearts who open their EuroHockey Championship campaign against England on August 10 (9.15am) in Monchengladbach. Then they play Spain 24-hours later (2.30) and finish their qualifying pool by squaring-up to Belgium on August 13 (11.15). Chris Duncan, Scotland's head coach, has much to ponder as the clock ticks down towards the EuroHockey Championships, including lack of real penetration in the final third despite enjoying a large slice of possession, and also his side's failure to convert more penalty corner chances, only one taken in ten attempts. Watson confirmed it had taken over nine years to hit three figures for Scotland but the former Dundee Wanderers player does not see herself playing on to reach 200 caps. She started her senior international career during a Test match against South Africa in Cape Town in 2016 and progressed to being a member of the Scotland Commonwealth Games squad in 2018 in the Gold Coast in Australia. Her CV includes scoring the second and clinching goal in the final of the EuroHockey Championships, Second Division, in Glasgow in 2019 as the home side won gold. She then received a call from the Great Britain selectors and she made here first appearance during a Test match against Japan in Hiroshima before playing in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Now she is looking to help steer Scotland to a high placing in the EuroHockey Championships also in Munchengladbach. At her last appearance there she scored a memorable and game-clinching goal as Scotland edged Spain 2-1 to record one of their finest victories in recent times. Spain were ranked No 8 in the world at the time, Scotland were No 19, but Watson was sent clear by Dunfermline-raised Eve Pearson and she slid the ball low into the right-hand corner for 2-0. Liverpool agree £65.5m sale of winger Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich
Liverpool have agreed to sell Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich in a deal worth up to €75m (£65.5m). The Colombian, 28, is poised to fly from Liverpool's training camp in Tokyo, having been given permission to travel for a medical with the German champions. Bayern had made Díaz a long-term target and were forced to pay what the English champions demanded as fair market value. Díaz was keen for the move, having first indicated in the summer of 2024 he was open to a transfer. Liverpool reluctantly decided to sell the popular player as part of a summer reboot of their forward line, having twice offered a new contract to a player who arrived from Porto in January 2022. Díaz was left out of Liverpool's pre-season 4-2 defeat in Hong Kong against Milan, with Arne Slot confirming the absence was because of a possible transfer. 'In Lucho's situation it was, yeah,' the Liverpool manager said. 'There are a lot of rumours around it lately and I cannot go into that. But he is training really well with us and we have decided, for now, not to play him yet.' Liverpool paid Porto €45m plus add‑ons for Díaz, with only €4m triggered, bringing his total cost to €49m. Diaz is expected to depart the Liverpool camp within the next 24 hours as Slot prepares his squad for a meeting with Yokohama F Marinos on Wednesday. Liverpool are seeking to bring in funds, having this summer signed Florian Wirtz, a long-term Bayern target, and Hugo Ekitike in two of the biggest deals in club history, and it is understood they are exploring other deals. There are continued links made to Newcastle's Alexander Isak, who is open to a move from Tyneside. Darwin Núñez, also linked with a transfer, also did not play against Milan game, though Slot said the Uruguayan forward was absent on fitness grounds. The completion of the Díaz deal will mean approaching £190m will have been made in player sales since Richard Hughes became sporting director in June 2024. In Hong Kong, Slot affirmed he was happy with his centre-backs, despite the sale of Jarell Quansah indicating a vacancy. The Crystal Palace captain, Marc Guéhi, is the name leading the speculation on that front. Slot said: 'I don't think we have a concern at centre-back. In terms of depth? I think Ryan [Gravenberch] showed today, by the way, that he can play in that position. He did it last season as well. Although we all know we favour him as a No 6. Wata [Endo] can play there. Joe Gomez only has a minor injury.' The new arrivals Jeremie Frimpong, left-back Milos Kerkez and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili all played in the second half of the friendly on Saturday, with Wirtz making his first start. Meanwhile, João Félix is departing Chelsea for Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr for a deal that may eventually reach around £44m, with an initial £26.2m upfront. Felix joined Chelsea for a similar sum in August 2024 from Atlético Madrid, having previously been a Stamford Bridge loanee in the second half of 2022-23. In January, he headed to Milan on loan after just three Premier League starts after that return. The Portuguese forward, 25, who cost Atlético €127m back in 2019, has had an undistinguished spell in English football over those two spells, scoring five goals in 28 appearances, a spectator as Chelsea won the Conference League and the Club World Cup this summer. Chelsea's signings of Liam Delap, João Pedro and Jamie Gittens have further closed down his chances of making Enzo Maresca's side. At Al-Nassr, he will partner compatriot, Cristiano Ronaldo, with whom he shares an agent, Jorge Mendes. The Everton manager, David Moyes, has confirmed a bid for Bayern Munich left-back, Adam Aznou, and said his team need a significant number of signings for the club's first season in a new stadium. 'We have made an offer, whether it's accepted, or whether it's all done,' said Moyes of Aznou, a 19-year-old former Barcelona trainee. 'He's a young player, he's a young left-back.' Moyes, speaking after his team lost 3-0 to Bournemouth in a pre-season friendly: 'If I'm honest, we've actually tried to target the more senior players if we can, players who are maybe over the age of 25 with Premier League experience.' In a Friday appearance on the Men In Blazers show, Moyes had said his squad required 'nine or ten' and at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium clarified those words: 'We've signed three so if you take them off, we're probably in need of another five or six players possibly. That's what we have to try and do.'
