Washington Post investigating cyberattack on journalists, WSJ reports
A cyberattack on the Washington Post compromised the email accounts of several journalists and was most likely the work of a foreign government, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.
Matt Murray, the Washington Post's executive editor, said in an internal memo that the breach was discovered on Thursday and an investigation had been initiated, the WSJ reported.
Staffers at the Washington Post were told the intrusions compromised journalists' Microsoft MSFT.O accounts and could have granted the intruder access to work emails, the WSJ reported, citing people familiar with the situation.
The reporters whose emails were targeted included members of the national security and economic policy teams, including some who write about China, the report added.
The Washington Post did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.
In 2022, News Corp NWSA.O, which publishes the WSJ, was breached by digital intruders. The email accounts and data of an unspecified number of journalists were compromised in that incident.

Officials on alert, protesters' voices heard as world leaders arrive in Calgary for G7 summit

Smith will also host an evening reception in Calgary on Monday and hold bilateral meetings throughout the summit. Police investigate fatal Friday motorcycle crash on north side
Edmonton police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that happened late Friday afternoon on the north side. Police said in a Sunday afternoon media release the driver of a Kawasaki motorcycle heading northbound on 127 Street hit a Subaru making a left-hand turn 'on a freshly-turned red light from the southbound lane on 127 Street.' The crash happened at 5:27 p.m., police said. They said the 31-year-old man driving the motorcycle was thrown from it and died at the scene. The driver of the Subaru was not injured and stayed at the scene, police said, adding they believe the motorcycle's speed was a factor in the crash. Anyone who may have seen the crash, or who has dash camera or video footage of it, can call police at 780-423-4567.
