Anwar: Madani government not perfect, but always ready to fix weaknesses
He said the Madani government remained committed to listening to the people and improving policies and initiatives where necessary.
"If there are weaknesses, we will address them. I am not saying everything we have done so far is perfect, but we always listen to the people and adjust where necessary," he told reporters after attending PKR's Seminar Pemantapan Organisasi dan Jelajah Presiden today.
Anwar was responding to a question on the Pas-led rally held yesterday, despite the government having introduced numerous economic and social initiatives.
He said such gatherings were permissible in a democratic country, but stressed the importance of distinguishing between genuine criticism and politically motivated misinformation.
"During the rally, claims were made that fuel prices had gone up, when in fact they had gone down.
"There were also claims that salt prices had increased, among other things.
"This shows that what is being pushed is not fact-based but driven by political hatred. We urge the public to evaluate based on facts, not sentiment."
Anwar said yesterday's rally ended peacefully.
However, he added that no substantive proposals were raised by the opposition during the protest, whether on the economy, education, national unity or national stability.
"There were only calls for Anwar to step down. Earlier today I was in Muar, now I am in the Federal Territory, and next week I will be in Kelantan," he said.
When asked about the scale of yesterday's rally compared to the 1999 protest, Anwar simply responded with a hand gesture indicating it was "small."

PUTRAJAYA, July 28 — The leaders of Cambodia and Thailand arrived in Malaysia on Monday for talks aimed at securing a ceasefire in their fierce border conflict, a Malaysian official said, amid an international effort to halt the fighting which entered a fifth day. The ambassadors to Malaysia of the United States and China were also present at the meeting in Malaysia's administrative capital of Putrajaya, the official said. It is being hosted at the residence of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the chair of the regional bloc Asean. Both Thailand and Cambodia accuse the other of starting the fighting last week and then escalating the clashes with heavy artillery bombardment at multiple locations along their 817-km (508-mile) land border, the deadliest conflict in more than a decade between the Southeast Asian neighbours. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet had earlier said the talks were co-organised by Malaysia and the United States, and that China would also take part in them. 'The purpose of this meeting is to achieve an immediate 'ceasefire', initiated by President Donald Trump and agreed to by the Prime Ministers of Cambodia and Thailand,' Hun Manet said in a post on X as he departed for the talks. Trump said on Sunday he believed both Thailand and Cambodia wanted to settle their differences after he told the leaders of both countries that he would not conclude trade deals with them unless they ended their fighting. Thailand's leader said there were doubts about Cambodia's sincerity ahead of the negotiations in Malaysia. 'We are not confident in Cambodia, their actions so far have reflected insincerity in solving the problem,' acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai told reporters ahead of his departure for Malaysia. 'Cambodia has violated international law, but everybody wants to see peace. Nobody wants to see violence that affects civilians.' Cambodia has strongly denied Thai accusations it has fired at civilian targets, and has instead said that Thailand has put innocent lives at risk. It has called for the international community to condemn Thailand's aggression against it. The tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have intensified since the killing in late May of a Cambodian soldier during a brief skirmish. Border troops on both sides were reinforced amid a full-blown diplomatic crisis that brought Thailand's fragile coalition government to the brink of collapse. Thailand-Cambodia Peace Talks Begin In Putrajaya Amid Rising Border Tensions
WORLD PUTRAJAYA, July 28 (Bernama) -- The special meeting between Thailand and Cambodia, aimed at securing an immediate ceasefire and halting hostilities along the disputed border, began in Putrajaya on Monday. The special meeting, brokered by Malaysia and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his capacity as the current ASEAN Chair, is being held to de-escalate rising tensions and restore stability along the conflict-hit border areas. Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai arrived at Seri Perdana, the venue of the meeting, which is the official residence of the Malaysian prime minister, at about 2.51 pm followed shortly after by Cambodian leader Hun Manet. They were welcomed by Anwar. Also attending the meeting were US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard Kagan and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, who are participating as co-facilitators. Last Friday, Anwar had called Phumtham and Manet separately, appealing for both leaders to seek an immediate ceasefire and return to dialogue to resolve their dispute. Anwar had said that Malaysia stands ready to assist and facilitate the process in the spirit of ASEAN unity and shared responsibility. The two Southeast Asian neighbours have a long history of diplomatic rows over an 817-kilometre undemarcated stretch of their shared border. Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have been simmering since May 28 following a skirmish between their troops near the disputed Preah Vihear border area, which claimed the life of a Cambodian soldier.
