IDSC gets new Board of Directors to improve effectiveness of government decision-making
Cairo – March 13, 2025: Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, has announced the formation of a new Board of Directors for the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC), with the aim of strengthening its role in supporting public policy-making.
The move is part of broader efforts to improve the effectiveness of government decision-making through the use of artificial intelligence and data analysis.
The newly appointed board includes a selection of renowned experts and senior officials from various sectors, ensuring that the center provides more innovative, sustainable, and evidence-based policies in alignment with the Egyptian government's goals.
Osama El-Gohary, the Assistant Prime Minister and Head of the IDSC, will lead the new board. The board also features influential figures in economics, politics, development, management, and information technology. Notable members include:
Professor Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, UN Special Envoy for Financing Sustainable Development, Professor of Economics at Cairo University, and former Minister of Investment.Professor Dr. Ali El-Din Hilal, Political Science Professor at Cairo University and former Minister of Youth and Sports.Professor Dr. Ahmed Darwich, former Minister of Administrative Development and former Head of the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority.Professor Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Professor of Sociology, Member of the Senate, and Director of the Alexandria Library.
Additionally, several representatives from key ministries will join the board to ensure greater integration between research efforts and public policy needs. These include:
Dr. Dina Sabry, a member of the Foreign Minister's office, representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Egyptian Expatriates.Mr. Tamer Taha, Advisor to the Minister of Planning and Economic Development for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, representing the Ministry of Planning.Mr. Ahmed Abdel Razek, Permanent Deputy of the Ministry of Finance.Mrs. Rana Abdel Hamid, Assistant Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Follow-up Affairs.Major General Engineer Walid Bishr Johar, Head of the Central Administration for Information Systems and Digital Transformation, representing the Ministry of Local Development.
In his statement, El-Gohary highlighted that the new board was formed to bring together a blend of academic expertise and practical experience.
The goal is to provide the Egyptian government with high-quality, evidence-based analyses to better address emerging challenges. The board will oversee the strategic direction of the IDSC, ensuring that its work is aligned with national priorities and supporting decision-making with cutting-edge data analytics.
The board's responsibilities will include enhancing the use of artificial intelligence and big data analysis to develop strategic, forward-looking policies. These tools will help the country navigate global changes and challenges with greater agility. Additionally, the board will work on expanding international partnerships to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and the implementation of best practices from around the world.
Another key task for the board will be to review and enhance Egypt's legislative and organizational frameworks for information management, ensuring that decisions are based on reliable, evidence-driven insights.
Looking ahead, El-Gohary noted that the board will also oversee several initiatives focused on AI and big data analysis, aimed at ensuring that Egypt's policies are increasingly precise and future-oriented. The center's research agenda will also be revisited, with an emphasis on maximizing its impact and efficiency.
El-Gohary concluded by reaffirming the center's commitment to supporting government decision-makers and improving overall government efficiency. He emphasized that with the new board in place, the IDSC will continue its vital role as a leading government think tank, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030 and national development objectives.

CAIRO, June 11 (MENA) - Egypt has welcomed the official and popular international and regional positions supporting Palestinian rights and rejecting the blockade, starvation tactics, and systematic and flagrant Israeli violations against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates affirmed that Egypt continues to work at all levels to end the aggression on Gaza and to bring an end to the humanitarian catastrophe impacting more than two million Palestinians. In this context and in light of recent requests and inquiries regarding visits by foreign delegations to the border areas adjacent to Gaza, especially Arish City and Rafah border crossing, Egypt stresses the necessity of obtaining prior approvals to conduct such visits, the ministry said. The only acceptable way for Egyptian authorities to consider these requests is by adhering to the regulatory framework and procedures established since the start of the war on Gaza, according to the statement. This includes submitting official requests to Egyptian embassies abroad, or through requests submitted by foreign embassies in Cairo or representatives of organizations to the foreign ministry, it said. Numerous visits have already been arranged for foreign delegations either representing governmental bodies or non-governmental human rights organizations, the ministry said. 'Egypt underlines the importance of adhering to these established regulations to ensure the safety of visiting delegations given the sensitive and volatile nature of the border area since the beginning of the Gaza crisis.' 'In this regard, Egypt reaffirms that no requests will be considered nor any invitations will be responded to if they fall outside the approved regulatory framework and established mechanisms,' the statement said. 'Egypt also underlines the importance that all foreign nationals must comply with Egyptian laws and entry regulations, including obtaining the necessary visas or pre-approved permits. 'Finally, Egypt reiterates its unwavering stance in support of the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land and its rejection of Israel's blatant violations of international law and international humanitarian law. 'It further stresses the importance of exerting pressure on Israel to lift the blockade on Gaza and to allow humanitarian access through all Israeli-controlled crossings with the Strip.' MCE Participates in Egypt's Local Conference of Youth on Climate Change
Mohamed Mandour The Muslim Council of Elders participated in the Local Conference of Youth on Climate Change (LCOY Egypt 2025), organized by the Mediterranean Youth Foundation and hosted at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The event drew active participation from numerous institutions, as well as official, academic, and religious figures. In a recorded address broadcast during the opening session of the conference, His Excellency Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders, emphasized that climate change is a fundamental and existential issue that is closely linked to achieving social justice. He noted that it is also a humanitarian concern that threatens humanity and the shared planet we all inhabit. He explained that the Muslim Council of Elders has embraced this cause on multiple fronts, including its participation in several United Nations Climate Change Conferences, most recently COP28 in Dubai and COP29 in Azerbaijan. At these conferences, the Council launched a landmark initiative—the Faith Pavilion—which aimed to strengthen the role of religious leaders and figures in addressing the climate challenge. Judge Abdelsalam further noted that the Council also organized the Global Summit of Religious Leaders for Climate, which resulted in the issuance of the document titled The Call of Conscience: The Abu Dhabi Joint Declaration on Climate." This statement was signed by 30 of the world's most prominent religious leaders, including His Eminence Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, and the late Pope Francis, former Pontiff of the Catholic Church. He also highlighted that, in recognition of the importance of youth engagement, the Council organized a climate-themed youth competition that attracted more than 50 participants from 11 countries around the world, aimed at involving youth in this global challenge. The Secretary-General commended the LCOY Egypt 2025 initiative, particularly as it was launched by Egyptian civil society. He expressed his confidence that such efforts would contribute positively to empowering youth to play a greater role in confronting climate change. He reaffirmed the Muslim Council of Elders' support for the initiative, stemming from its firm belief in the vital role of youth in addressing contemporary challenges and in promoting peace, coexistence, and human fraternity. It is worth noting that LCOY Egypt 2025 is being organized for the first time under the leadership of Egyptian civil society, across 11 governorates from May to November 2025, and concurrently in 110 countries around the world. The conference will culminate in a policy paper, which will be submitted annually in November to the Secretary-General of the United Nations. Egypt Stresses Need to Adhere to Regulatory Controls for Visiting Border Area Adjacent to Gaza
Taarek Refaat Egypt welcomed the international and regional positions, both official and popular, in support of Palestinian rights and in rejection of the blockade, starvation, and blatant and systematic Israeli violations against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration affirmed, in a press statement, Wednesday, said that Egypt will continue to work at all levels to end the aggression on the Strip and the humanitarian catastrophe that has befallen more than two million Palestinians. In this context, and in light of the requests and inquiries regarding foreign delegations visiting the border area adjacent to Gaza (the city of Arish and the Rafah crossing) during the recent period; in order to express support for Palestinian rights, Egypt emphasizes the necessity of obtaining prior approval for such visits, and that the only way for Egyptian authorities to continue considering such requests is by following the regulatory controls and mechanisms in place since the beginning of the war on Gaza. These include submitting an official request to Egyptian embassies abroad, or through requests submitted by foreign embassies in Cairo or representatives of organizations to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It should be noted that numerous visits have already been arranged for foreign delegations, both governmental and from human rights non-governmental organizations. Egypt emphasizes the importance of adhering to these regulatory controls, which have been put in place to ensure the security of visiting delegations due to the delicate situation in the border area since the beginning of the Gaza crisis. In this regard, it emphasizes that no requests will be considered or invitations will be responded to outside the framework defined by the regulatory controls and mechanisms in place. Egypt also emphasizes the importance of citizens of all countries adhering to the laws and regulations governing entry into Egyptian territory, including obtaining prior and regulated visas or permits. Egypt emphasized its unwavering support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land and its rejection of Israel's flagrant violations of international law and international humanitarian law.
