Ex-Rangers boss Philippe Clement tips Nico Raskin for English Premier League move and urges him to make decision NOW
He's got a few big games at international level this week NIC OF TIME Ex-Rangers boss Philippe Clement tips Nico Raskin for English Premier League move and urges him to make decision NOW PHILIPPE CLEMENT insists Rangers hero Nicolas Raskin is ready now to play for a top half side in the English Premier League. The midfielder is on international duty with Belgium and has two massive games against North Macedonia tomorrow night and Wales on Monday in their World Cup qualifiers. Advertisement 2 Rangers manager Philippe Clement Credit: PA 2 Philippe Clement with Nico Raskin Credit: Willie Vass Axed ex-Ibrox boss Clement handed the captain's armband to Raskin for their Old Firm win against Celtic in January with James Tavernier injured. And, in an interview in his homeland, Clement has tipped Raskin for the top. He said: "I think he's ready. I'm convinced Nico would fit perfectly in the Premier League. "I'm not saying he would be in a top six team now. But just below that, so he can calmly adapt to the level. Advertisement "Make no mistake: Nico has a lot of room to grow. "He has to make the right choice now. "And if he leaves and gets enough playing time at his new club, he will only get better. I would put my hand in the fire for that." And Clement, who turned down the chance to manage Sparta Prague last week and is still without a job, was full of praise for how much Raskin has improved. Advertisement He said: "He's a character. I worked with him intensively for a year at Rangers. "Nico wants to know everything, gets into discussions and has his own opinion. But if you communicate and argue clearly, there's no problem at all. Rangers fans react as 49ers takeover completed "I like players with an opinion. I didn't just give him the captain's armband for nothing. That way he could grow as a footballer and take on more responsibility. "He has good feet and plays energetic football, but the most important step Nico has taken is that he has become tactically stronger. Advertisement "That's why he was ready for the national team - something I said six months ago. I've talked to him about it a lot. "Nico was a firefighter. You know? He often went somewhere else to put out fires and that caused problems in his zone. He doesn't do that anymore. "I wasn't surprised when he played so well for Belgium on his debut. "He's played a lot of European matches. Both with Standard Liege and Rangers. Advertisement "When you play against teams like Manchester United, Spurs, Benfica or Real means it's nothing new for him to play against top players. "Playing for his country was a huge honour for him. Nico benefits from that - he's a born winner.' Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Martin a 'fantastic' Rangers appointment, says Boyd
Kris Boyd understands Rangers fan concerns about new head coach Russell Martin, but believes the Ibrox club have made a "fantastic" decision in appointing the former MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton striker Boyd feels Martin's past experience at Ibrox as a player, and his proven ability to improve teams, makes him the "right appointment"."A lot of fans are unhappy and have got concerns," Boyd said on Sky Sports. "I completely understand that. "But when you speak to people within football, Martin is highly thought of. This move is one he wanted. He decided Rangers were for him."It's a fantastic appointment. He's already been here as a player, he understands the pressure and the demands that are put on you as a player, but as a manager that's totally different - you have to deal with everything."Boyd describes Martin, who had a brief loan spell at Rangers in 2018, as a "football encyclopaedia" and "someone who's been driven by wanting to be a coach for a long, long time".The former Scotland defender's managerial career was on a perfect trajectory after a rapid rise from England's third tier to the top Martin was sacked by Southampton in December amid a run of just one win from their opening 16 Premier League new Rangers boss faced criticism for refusing to adjust his possession-based style of play, but Boyd feels he will improve as a coach as a result of that difficult time."Will he be a better manager for that? Absolutely," Boyd added. "If he was given more time, I'm not saying he would have turned it around, but people would look at him differently. "You've got to praise managers who have a style of play about them. Coming up through the [Championship] play-offs with Southampton, he had to change a lot. "He changed the style and culture so quickly, you still have to say it was a job well done."

Liverpool ace Ibrahima Konate explains Anfield influence on PSG hero Desire Doue
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has lauded Desire Doue after the Paris Saint-Germain talent helped inspire the French giants to victory in the Champions League final Ibrahima Konate reckons that Desire Doue's match-winning penalty against Liverpool earlier in the season helped boost the Paris Saint-Germain superstar's confidence in the wake of his stellar performance in the Champions League final. Doue, 20, was the star of the show as PSG thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich last weekend, netting twice as Luis Enrique 's side ran riot to clinch a maiden European Cup. The fleet-footed forward caught the eye before that decisive spot-kick at Anfield with a dazzling display for the French champions. And Konate feels that night has proven to be a catalyst for Doue in the second half of the season, during which his compatriot has emerged as one of European football's most exciting talents. 'His performance was a dream,' Konate told The Athletic. 'I'm extremely happy for him, because when he signed for PSG, he had to tiptoe in a bit. There's the pressure, the need to adapt, so it always takes a bit of time. 'There was a turning point in January, when the coach (Luis Enrique) started showing more faith in him. The appearances he made off the bench against us, and the fact he scored the last penalty (in the shootout at Anfield) gave him an exceptional confidence boost. 'Since then, he's just been the player he is, because he has huge qualities. He has great natural physical qualities and he's already very mature in terms of his football. Plus, he has technical proficiency that is way above average. And he has a healthy lifestyle. I tend to observe people and I notice if people pay attention to what they eat or if they do a lot of gym work. 'But scoring two goals and providing an assist in a Champions League final… I don't think he'll have slept much since!' While the celebrations from Liverpool's Premier League title win are only just dying down, Konate has already set his sights on atoning for this season's Champions League exit in the Round of 16 by winning the tournament next year. 'The most important thing is not to rest on our laurels,' he said. 'We won the Premier League, which is magnificent and which made everyone happy, but it's not an end in itself. I want to win it again next year. Or win the Champions League. 'When next season begins, we shouldn't forget about the title, because we won it and it's etched in history, but we'll need to set it aside and say to ourselves, 'That's behind us. Now, do we have the desire and the physical and mental strength to do what we did last season again?' 'It will be harder, because we're the champions and everyone will want to beat us.'
