Teen held for impersonating senior IAS, IPS officers on Facebook to extort money
A 19-year-old from Rajasthan has been arrested by Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police for creating fake Facebook profiles of senior IAS and IPS officers to dupe people into sending him money.
The accused, Arbaz Khan, a resident of Bahadurpur Patti Meeran village in Alwar district, was caught after a senior bureaucrat filed a complaint on May 12, said an officer from the Hyderabad Cyber Crimes wing. The complaint alleged that someone had created a Facebook account using his name and photo, sent friend requests, and attempted to extort money from his contacts.
'Probe revealed that Khan had created multiple fake accounts, including one falsely identifying himself as a CRPF officer. He also sent misleading and inappropriate messages, damaging the reputations of several high-ranking officials. The accused used Facebook and WhatsApp to impersonate senior officers, targeting their colleagues and friends with fake display pictures and false identities,' said the officer, adding that he is also named in another case under investigation by Alwal police in Cyberabad.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad police officials have advised people not to trust social media messages that claim to be from government officers, especially when money is requested. Victims of cyber fraud are urged to dial 1930 or visit cybercrime.gov.in for help.

Agra: A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly strangling his friend, 16, and crushing his face with a brick after being repeatedly labelled a "thief" by the latter, Agra police said on Friday. During questioning, Khan confessed that he murdered his friend, claiming he used to frequently taunt him by calling him a "thief". He also revealed the violent manner in which he committed the crime. "Further legal proceedings against him will continue," the ACP said. Shahganj SHO Viresh Pal Giri said that on June 3, Khan met his friend in Daroga Wali Gali and persuaded him for a scooter ride. He took him to Pathauli Road, where he first strangled him and thereafter crushed his head with a brick. Police said Khan, who was working at a local factory, and the victim stayed in the same area and knew each other for over a year. The accused also had a motorcycle theft case lodged against him at Agra's Lohamandi police station.

Madras High Court summons Greater Chennai City Commissioner of Police
The Madras High Court has summoned Greater Chennai City Commissioner of Police A. Arun to explain the reasons for the Nolambur police not having acted upon a complaint lodged by a flat owner against two other owners in his apartment complex under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act of 1989. Justice P. Velmurugan ordered that the Commissioner of Police must appear on June 9, and clarify why no action was taken on the complaint even after the National Commission for the Scheduled Castes (NCSC) had forwarded it to the Commissionerate on December 26 last year, and had called for a report on the action taken within 15 days. The order was passed on a writ petition filed by engineering degree-holder V. Vanamalai of Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district. The petitioner said he owned a flat at Vinoth Viruksha Apartments at Nolambur in Chennai. He had a dispute regarding the funds of the flat owners' welfare association. The petitioner, along with another flat owner, had lodged a criminal complaint alleging misappropriation of ₹1.25 crore, and the matter was under investigation by the Central Crime Branch. Irked over it, one of the flat owners had used abusive language against the petitioner after coming to know that he belonged to a Scheduled Caste community, the petitioner claimed. The petitioner also complained that he was insulted directly and indirectly in the WhatsApp group used by the flat owners, and claimed that it was a caste-based atrocity. He lodged an online complaint with the Inspector of the Nolambur police station on November 4, 2024, and subsequently made a complaint to the NCSC on December 9, 2024. The NCSC forwarded the complaint to the Commissioner of Police, and called for a report within 15 days. The Commission's communication was marked to the petitioner too. However, till date, the police had not even conducted an inquiry regarding the complaint, the petitioner said.
