MotoGP: Marc Márquez rules as king of Aragon … with brother Álex his closest challenger

The Guardian3 days ago

Marc Márquez proved once again that he was the master of the circuit at MotorLand as the Ducati rider won the Aragon Grand Prix from pole to extend his lead in the championship on Sunday.
Márquez's brother Álex finished second for Gresini Racing while Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia came third.
Marc had completed the perfect weekend last year to win his first race in 1,043 days at the same circuit and he repeated his feat as the polesitter and sprint winner claimed a record-extending seventh victory.
Such was Marc's dominance this weekend that he became the first rider in 10 years to lead every session – including warmups, practice and qualifying – since he did it himself at the German Grand Prix in 2015

Spain leave out record scorer Jenni Hermoso from Women's Euro 2025 squad

Jenni Hermoso has been left out of the Spain squad for the Euro 2025, with coach Montse Tome saying there was too much competition for places in her position. The 35-year-old forward played a key role in Spain's World Cup victory in 2023 and is the country's leading goalscorer but has featured less frequently for the side in recent months. Hermoso was also at the centre of a scandal involving former Spanish Football Federation President Luis Rubiales, who was found guilty of sexual assault for kissing the player without her consent after Spain's World Cup win in Sydney. Rubiales said the kiss was consensual. Hermoso, who plays club football for Mexico's Tigres, was last called up to the Spain squad for friendlies against Italy and Canada in October and was part of the squad for last year's Paris Olympics. "I spoke with Jenni (Hermoso) already in the beginning of the year, we had a conversation," Tome told reporters on Tuesday. "We've done with her what we've done with everyone else. We've valued her season in Tigres, we've spoken with the manager in different times, and we did what we had to do, to assess what we need from the players." Tome said Patri Guijarro, Maite Zubieta, Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmati, Vicky Lopez, Mariona Caldentey and Claudia Pina were all capable of playing in Hermoso's position. "It's difficult to make it to the final list of 23 players," she added.

Twice Superbike champ Razgatlioglu to ride for Pramac in MotoGP in 2026

June 10 (Reuters) - Twice World Superbike champion Toprak Razgatlioglu will make the switch to MotoGP in 2026 after agreeing to join the Prima Pramac Racing team, Yamaha announced on Tuesday. Razgatlioglu, the first Turkish Superbike world champion who is known for his showmanship and has 63 wins, won his first title with Yamaha in 2021 before making the switch to BMW, winning the title again in 2024. Pramac made the switch from Ducati bikes to Yamaha this season. Razgatlioglu is currently second in the 2025 Superbike championship. "Toprak, the most victorious Yamaha rider of all time in Superbike, has proven to be an exceptional talent, securing the WorldSBK Title twice, which is no mean feat," Paolo Pavesio, the managing director of Yamaha Racing, said in a statement. "His transition to MotoGP is both a 'homecoming' and an exciting new challenge that's been set up with the clear goal of progressive growth over time." Razgatlioglu had previously tested the Yamaha bike in 2023. Pramac currently have Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira as their riders this season, with Yamaha saying the 2026 lineup will be confirmed in due course. Current WorldSBK leader Nicolo Bulega is also set to join Ducati's MotoGP test team next year ahead of a potential switch in 2027 when MotoGP's new regulations come into effect.

Emotional Alvaro Morata fights back tears and drops retirement hint after his penalty miss costs Spain Nations League crown

Alvaro Morata has said he has a big decision to make on his international future, acknowledging that retiring from Spain duty is 'possible.' On Sunday night, the Spanish captain was on the bench during the UEFA Nations League final defeat to Portugal. He came on during extra-time as a penalty shoot-out loomed, only to miss a decisive spot-kick during Spain's loss. Potential Arsenal signing Martin Zubimendi opened the scoring for Spain before Nuno Mendes equalised for Portugal. Mikel Oyarzabal retook the lead for Spain ahead once again ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo levelling things up ahead of the shoot-out. Ahead of a pair of 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September, Morata addressed his future. Luis de la Fuente made Morata his captain as soon as he took the Spain job in February 2023 'I feel bad for my teammates, but it's part of life,' said Morata to to Spanish outlet AS. 'The penalty? I didn't take it well, I could have done better, but there's nothing I can do now,' said Morata to AS. 'I'm leaving angry. I wanted to cry, even though I didn't. 'My children were in the stands, and in life, you have to learn. 'Retirement from the national team? It's possible, I won't be back in September.' Spain manager Luis de la Fuente reiterated his confidence in Morata despite opting to start him on the bench for the crucial final. 'He's a leader and especially important for us, regardless of whether he plays more or less,' said de la Fuente to Marca. 'He's the best leader. 'He has lots of football left in him and will have some very important moments with us. 'He contributes a lot behind the scenes, away from the spotlight. 'I attach great importance to that.' When de la Fuente took over as Spain boss in February 2023, he immediately gave the captain's armband to Morata. The former Chelsea striker lifted the Euro 2024 trophy after Spain defeated England in the final. Morata spent last season on loan at Galatasaray and the 32-year-old has spent time at Real Madrid, AC Milan, Juventus and Atletico Madrid during his career.
