Muncie man draws 30-year sentence for role in fatal overdose

Yahoo05-03-2025

MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie man who provided an acquaintance with the fentanyl that led to his overdose death was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison.
Anthony Wayne Tiller, 42, had pleaded guilty in February to dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, a Level 1 felony carrying up to 40 years in prison.
Muncie police said Tiller sold drugs to Brian K. Bell Sr., a 58-year-old Muncie man who died as a result of an overdose on June 18, 2022.
A family member told investigators Bell had been prescribed Oxycodone for back pain and at times "ran out" of his medication and bought pills from Tiller.
The witness said the men were acquainted through the substance abuse rehabilitation program Bell helped operate.

Tinder, who pleaded guilty in February, was sentenced Wednesday by Delaware Circuit Court 4 Judge John Feick.
Chief Deputy Prosecutor Zach Craig had recommended Tinder receive "an aggravated and executed" sentence.
Under the terms of a plea agreement, a second charge pending against Tiller — dealing in a narcotic drug, a Level 5 felony carrying up to six years in prison — was dismissed.
His record included drug-related convictions in Delaware and Randolph counties.
Soon after his arrest, Tiller asked that his case be moved out of Delaware County, saying he could not receive a fair trial because Bell was so well-known locally as an addiction recovery activist.
The effort to move the case was later abandoned.

Woman in Hartselle charged with prescription fraud after incident at Kroger pharmacy

Jun. 6—A woman was arrested on Tuesday and charged with obtaining a controlled substance by fraud after she allegedly gave two prescriptions to a pharmacy in Hartselle under a different name, according to an affidavit signed by a Hartselle police lieutenant. Dorian Jada Brazley, 28, was transported by Hartselle police to Morgan County Jail and held in lieu of $50,000 bail. Jail records show her still in custody as of Wednesday morning. According to the affidavit, at approximately 5:43 p.m. on Tuesday, a pharmacy technician at Kroger took possession of two prescriptions presented by Brazley. "Brazley claimed the prescriptions were for her cousin, identified on the prescription forms as Jaylen T. Moore," the affidavit said. The prescriptions were for 30 mg of Oxycodone and Lubiprostone 24 mcg capsules, which is a laxative used for chronic constipation. The technician and pharmacist became suspicious because of the unusual formatting and presentation of the prescriptions that were inconsistent with typical prescriptions issued by this specific doctor, who the affidavit identified as a family physician in Decatur. After calling the doctor's office, the affidavit said the pharmacist was informed the prescriptions were forgeries and they called the Hartselle police department. "While law enforcement was en route, the suspect departed the location but returned at approximately 7:30 p.m. to inquire about picking up the prescriptions," the affidavit said. Officers were then called again and arrived on scene to detain Brazley and transported her to the Hartselle police department to speak with investigators. — or 256-340-2442.
