Post demoliton of ‘caste wall', security tightened at Muthuladampatti in Karur
The task of demolition of the structure began at 3.30 p.m on Saturday and came to an end at 2.30 a.m on Sunday. In spite of heavy rain the demolition work, which was done by the intermediate caste as per the 'direction and direct supervision' of the revenue officials, was completed at a stretch. While the wall was dismantled around 9.30 p.m, it took five more hours for them to destroy the structure's foundation. The entire operation was carried out amid tight security.
An uneasy calm has been prevailing at Muthuladampatti, where the Thottia Naickers and the Arunthathiyars live at separate settlements, in the aftermath of the demolition of the wall. As a precautionary measure, police picketing has been posted at various places of the hamlets.
Superintendent of Police Josh K. Thangaiah told The Hindu no untoward incident was reported so far at Muthuladampatti. However, round the clock security would be in place until further orders. Plain cloth policemen were asked to closely monitor the situation. Normalcy would be restored soon.
He said considering the sensitive nature of the issue, the members of both groups at Muthuladampatti were warned not to escalate the situation. The members, who had pressed for the demolition of the wall, were advised not to celebrate the dismantle of it in any manner.
While stating it was a teamwork, Mr. Thangaiah said the operation was completed without any issue. A series of direct and indirect talks were held by bringing the leaders of both the caste groups on a table. They (Thottia Naickers) had understood the 'gravity of the situation' and agreed upon to dismantle on their own without waiting for the officials to raze down the wall.

11 from UP killed as pickup van rams into truck in Dausa
Jaipur: A pickup van crashed into a parked truck in Rajasthan's Dausa district in the early hours of Wednesday, killing 11 Uttar Pradesh residents, including seven children, and injuring eight others, police said. The passengers of the pickup vehicle were returning to their village in Uttar Pradesh's Etah after visiting Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji temple when the accident occurred on Manoharpur highway around 4-5 am, Dausa Superintendent of Police Sagar told PTI. Seven children and four women died in the accident, he said. Dausa Deputy SP Raviprakash Sharma said the deceased have been identified as Mishthi (1), Babu (3), Poorvi (6), Lakshay (6), Vaishnavi (7), Mahak (7), Saloni (9), Sheela (20), Priyanka (25), Seema (25) and Sonam (32). Twenty people were on board the pickup vehicle when it rammed into a stationary truck in the service lane of the highway, the SP said, adding that one of the eight injured is in critical condition. Dr Anurag Dhakar from Jaipur's SMS Hospital, where some injured people were taken, said, 'Around 10 injured, including three women and three children, were brought here. Of them, one woman, Seema Devi, died while her husband Manoj is in the ICU.'- Three patients have suffered head injuries, while one of the three children is critical, Dhakar added. Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, a stunned silence fell over Etah's Asrauli village as news came that 11 of its residents were killed in the road crash in Rajasthan. District Magistrate Prem Ranjan Singh, along with Senior Superintendent of Police and other officials, visited the bereaved families and assured all possible assistance. Large crowds of leaders, well-wishers and locals gathered in Asrauli to console the grieving families. 'We have sent a team from Etah to Dausa to support the victims' relatives. The bodies will be brought back to Etah,' DM Singh said. In view of the tragedy, the Lodhi Mahasabha has postponed the Virangana Rani Avantibai Lodhi Shobha Yatra in Etah that was scheduled for August 16. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident. In a post on X in Hindi, the CM said, 'The news of loss of life in a horrific road accident in Dausa is extremely tragic. The district administration has been directed to ensure prompt and proper treatment for the injured. May God grant a place at His divine feet to the departed souls and provide speedy recovery to the injured.' CM Sharma has instructed officials to ensure proper arrangements for the treatment of the injured. Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident. He prayed for peace to the departed souls and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured, an official statement said. Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot and other leaders also expressed sorrow over the incident.

Deaf-mute woman gang-raped in UP
Balrampur: A deaf and mute woman was allegedly kidnapped and gangraped in Uttar Pradesh while returning home . The incident reportedly took place a few meters from the homes of the district's top officials, where CCTV cameras were found to be off, reports NDTV. The police arrested two attackers within 24 hours of the incident, following an encounter. When the woman was on her way home in Balrampur district from her maternal uncle's home, she was kidnapped and taken to a deserted field. Two men took turns and raped the woman. Owing to her disability, the woman couldn't call for help. When the woman did not return home after an hour, the family began searching for her and found her in a suspicious condition in a field near a police post. The woman was rushed to the district women's hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. She is stable but in shock, doctors say. After the woman's brother informed the police about his sister and registered a complaint, the cops began an investigation and arrested the two attackers - Ankur Verma and Harshit Pandey - within 24 hours. 'Based on the evidence and CCTV footage, we identified the two men,' said Vikash Kumar, Superintendent of Police. 'The two accused suffered injuries during an encounter and are currently under treatment. They have confessed to the crime,' he said. Under Operation Trinetra in Uttar Pradesh, hundreds of CCTV cameras have been installed across districts to enhance surveillance and improve law and order. These CCTV cameras are meant to work as 'eyes' on the ground, monitoring public spaces. The woman's family alleges that the incident took place due to negligence. Three to four CCTV cameras in the region were found to be switched off, the family claimed. However, a camera installed near the Superintendent of Police's house caught the woman running and bikers chasing her.

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced 1,090 personnel from police, fire, home guard, Civil Defence, and correctional services awarded Gallantry and Service medals. The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday announced the list of bravehearts honoured with the Gallantry and Service medals in recognition of their exceptional bravery, distinguished service, and meritorious contributions to the nation. 'The total of 1090 Personnel of Police, Fire, Home Guard & Civil Defence (HG&CD) and Correctional Services have been awarded Gallantry and Service Medals on the occasion of the Independence Day, 2025," read a notification released by the government. The awards are divided into three main categories, namely Medal for Gallantry (GM), President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) and Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM). This year, a total of 1,090 personnel from police, fire, home guard & Civil Defence (HG&CD) and correctional services have been awarded the Gallantry and Service medals. Medal for Gallantry (GM): 233 personnel have been awarded Medal for Gallantry (GM) this year. These include 226 from the Police, six from the Fire Service, and one from the HG&CD. This medal is awarded on the ground of Rare Conspicuous Act of Gallantry and Conspicuous Act of Gallantry respectively in saving life and property, or in preventing crime or arresting criminals, the risk incurred being estimated with due regard to the obligations and duties of the officer concerned. President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM): 99 personnel have been awarded President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) for their distinguished service. This includes 89 from the Police, five from the Fire Service, three from HG&CD, and two from Correctional Services.
