Richard Hughes' plan to sign £130m Alexander Isak falling PERFECTLY into place

Liverpool are pressing on with their plans to sign Alexander Isak. The Swedish striker has not travelled with Newcastle for their preseason tour to Asia - waiting behind with what has been officially described as a minor thigh injury.
Isak, 25, has made it known that he does NOT wish to sign a contract extension at St. James' Park - and would prefer to discuss a transfer away from the club as soon as possible.

That is music to Liverpool's ears - with the Anfield club well placed to make a British record bid for the Sweden international.
The Reds have already landed Hugo Ekitike - Newcastle's desired transfer target - and both could have a part to play under Arne Slot next season.
Liverpool make their Isak approach
Liverpool were first reported to have made an approach for Isak earlier this month but Newcastle at that stage remained steadfast in their refusal to do a deal.
The focus back then was for Isak to sign a new contract - with his current deal expiring in 2028. Isak earns around £120k per week - far beneath his market value - and his new demands have been quoted at £300k per week.
Newcastle couldn't facilitate those wages - even if Isak wanted to stay - and so a parting of the ways appears inevitable.
The Magpies do not want to be stuck with an unhappy player on their hands and a bid of around £130m could help them restock others areas in the squad during what has been a washout of a transfer window.
This is playing out EXACTLY as Liverpool want it to
It is clear that Isak has been unsettled by the speculation and the best result for all concerned would be a quick resolution for a move to Merseyside. And the situation is developing nicely in Liverpool's favour, according to a new report in Rousing The Kop.
'Did Liverpool know he wanted to leave when they made their approach earlier this month? Quite possibly,' a report reads.
'It's going to be very hard for Newcastle to keep him now, it really is. The way this is playing out is exactly how Liverpool wanted it to.'

Airline hails spike in premium bookings to the UK

Airline Emirates has recorded a surge in bookings from affluent visitors to the UK, which it claimed is 'driving forward economic growth' in the country. Bookings for first class seats on flights from China and India during the first half of the year were up 27% and 17% respectively, compared with the same period in 2024, according to the carrier. For travel from Australia, the increase in business class bookings was 10%. Emirates said regional UK airports such as Glasgow and Newcastle are expected to see an increasing number of Chinese visitors, with inbound passenger numbers anticipated to rise by 18% and 45% respectively in the second half of 2025 compared with a year earlier. All Emirates journeys on these routes involve changing planes in Dubai. The airline recently signed a declaration of intent with tourism agency VisitBritain to boost inbound tourism. Emirates UK divisional vice president Jabr Al-Azeeby said: 'The UK is one of the most important markets in Emirates' global network, and the growth in bookings we've seen over the past year reflects that. 'We've seen a noticeable increase in inbound arrivals from key destinations such as Australia, India, and China, driving forward economic growth here in the UK. 'Our partnership with VisitBritain underscores our commitment to grow tourism for the UK from key strategic markets.' The Government's ambition is for the UK to have 50 million international visitors a year by 2030. An estimated 41.2 million inbound visits were made in 2024. VisitBritain chief executive Patricia Yates said: 'Expanding airline routes and seat capacity into our regional gateways is crucial to our competitive tourism offer. 'International visitors are forecast to spend more than £34 billion in the UK this year. 'Making it easier for visitors to explore our nations and regions boosts that spending across more of Britain, supporting jobs, businesses and driving growth for local economies.' Sky Sports Provide Update on Liverpool's Pursuit of Alexander Isak

Liverpool Remain Firm in Pursuit of Isak as Negotiations Edge Forward Liverpool Continue Push for Alexander Isak Liverpool are not walking away. Despite having an opening bid of £110 million turned down by Newcastle United, the Merseyside club remain keen on securing the services of Alexander Isak. The Sweden international, one of the standout forwards in the Premier League last season, has returned to training in England, as reported by David Ornstein, an update that only fuels further speculation. This is not a saga Liverpool intend to lose. While Newcastle have projected the image of a club unwilling to sell, those within the corridors of Anfield sense an opportunity. Isak's quality is not in question. He blends power, precision and composure with a striker's instinct that is increasingly hard to find at the highest level. For Arne Slot, a manager now tasked with defending a league title, the forward would represent both a statement and a solution. Newcastle's Position Strong but Not Unmoveable Newcastle are understandably wary of optics. Selling one of their best players to a direct rival, particularly so early in their own project under Eddie Howe, risks backlash unless the fee is undeniably substantial. Hence the reported asking price of £150 million. Photo IMAGO It is a towering figure, but one that may be more negotiation tactic than outright expectation. As Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany reports, Liverpool are not walking away from the table, and it seems only a matter of time before a second bid is launched. There is belief within the recruitment setup, led by Richard Hughes, that a deal could be struck for closer to £130–140 million. That may prove enough to satisfy Newcastle's need to be seen resisting firmly while ultimately doing business on their own terms. Timing Points Towards Progress Some observers have noted that Isak's return to training may signal a reconciliation with Newcastle. Others are not so sure. Context is key. Newcastle have already made moves for a replacement, showing firm interest in RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. That interest suggests planning, not panic. A new number nine would not arrive as backup, it would come as a strategic replacement. Photo: IMAGO With that in mind, Isak's reappearance at the training ground could be less about commitment and more about practicality. As Liverpool continue to monitor the situation, it becomes harder to argue that this story is going away. Slot's Plans Could Hinge on One More Signing Isak would not be arriving to fill a gap but to elevate Liverpool's attacking line. With uncertainty around Darwin Núñez's role, and questions about long-term depth up front, the Swedish forward would offer Slot variety and reliability in equal measure. A fluid front three, with Isak flanked by Mohamed Salah and Luis Díaz or Cody Gakpo, is one that could carry weight across all competitions. With pre-season already underway, Liverpool will want clarity sooner rather than later. For now, the club remain composed, confident in their approach and unwilling to panic. But with each day that passes, the feeling grows that this pursuit has substance, and may not end until Isak is wearing red.

Liverpool to cash in as COMPLETE midfielder leaves

Liverpool stand to cash in TWICE having sold to Lyon. The cash-strapped French Ligue 1 giants have managed to find the money in order to complete a deal for the Liverpool midfielder. A breakthrough in negotiations was reached on Saturday - with Morton flying to Lyon in order to tie up the formalities of the transfer. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas home range Shop the LFC Store 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the away range TODAY LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! Morton handpicked by Lyon manager His misery was compounded by an injury that wrecked the second half of his season. Morton recovered to take his place in England's UEFA Euro U21 squad - with the schemer being successful alongside Harvey Elliott as the Three Lions retained the trophy. A player of considerable promise, Morton leaves having played 14 times for the seniors - and enjoyed productive loan spells away from Anfield at Blackburn and especially Hull City. He has been handpicked by Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca - who is reported to see him as a dream signing according to L'Equipe. Morton fee reported at €10m 'He will cost €10 million and will sign a five-year contract,' write Hugo Guillemet and Loïc Tanzi. 'The latter has long been identified by the Lyon team: a complete and modern number 6 very comfortable on the ball, capable of playing as an 8, he fits the profile sought by Paulo Fonseca to take his midfield to the next level.' The deal has been reported at £15m in the British media but French claims are that the transfer is for significantly less than that. Liverpool stand to benefit to the tune of around €10m initially and €5m more will be sent their way based on bonuses. © IMAGO Liverpool receive 20 percent cut 'OL reached an agreement with the Reds on a transfer fee of €10 million. Bonuses of up to €5 million will also be added to the deal, although they are quite difficult to achieve.' However, the real benefit of the deal could come further down the line. Liverpool have managed to insert a clause in the move which will see them gain a cut of future profits. 'Liverpool will retain 20% of any potential future capital gains,' the report concludes. Lyon have got a very good track record in selling players - including Tanguy Ndombele, Bradley Barcola and Lucas Paqueta. If, as expected, Morton impressed for his new club over the next few seasons it could be envisaged that he completes a money-spinning deal back to the Premier League.
