Vrabel will be speaking to the media at 9:30 a.m. — stay tuned for updates at bostonglobe.com — then practice will begin at 10:15 a.m.
The media also will hear from a handful of players after practice.
What to know for Wednesday
▪ Stefon Diggs is a go. The wide receiver has been cleared to return from the ACL tear he suffered nine months ago. The news is a positive development for both the offense and the 31-year-old Diggs, who was a limited participant for voluntary spring practices. 'I know that everybody heals differently, especially from that type of injury, but I would say it's a testament to how hard he worked,' Vrabel said Tuesday.

▪ Defensive coordinator Terrell Williams, who was absent from spring workouts because of an undisclosed health issue, is back in the building. 'Big T is here, ready to go,' said Vrabel. 'He's been out on the field with us the last couple of days. Players were excited to see him. I was excited to see him. We'll move forward.'
▪ The team placed tight end Austin Hooper, wide receiver Mack Hollins, tackle Vederian Lowe, and linebacker Jahlani Tavai on the PUP list. According to Vrabel, Tavai, who suffered a calf injury this spring, should practice Wednesday. The other three will return 'sometime after that,' he said.

▪ The Patriots also placed cornerback Carlton Davis, safety Josh Minkins, and wide receiver Jeremiah Webb on the non-football injury (NFI) list. Davis and Webb should return Wednesday, Vrabel said, while Minkins needs 'a few more days.' Players are eligible to come off PUP and NFI at any time.

:
▪ Call them the 'Pawtriots': The Patriots are hosting a 'Pet Adoption Day' on Wednesday, with three animal shelters onsite for fans to meet and possibly adopt a dog. Players will walk the dogs onto the practice fields and some families who were preselected will get to meet their new friend at camp. The dog days of summer are truly upon us!

Terry McLaurin has reportedly requested a trade. The Patriots should go all-in for Pro Bowl receiver

Star wide receiver Terry McLaurin is not happy with the Washington Commanders, and has reportedly requested a trade following an offseason of failed extension negotiations. It's time for Eliot Wolf and Mike Vrabel to make a strong push to get McLaurin on the New England Patriots. McLaurin is the kind of player the Patriots should call about, and then continue to call about until he's in New England. He's the kind of talent that could turn the Patriots from a potentially promising team to a legit playoff contender in 2025 if he's added to Drake Maye's arsenal. McLaurin reported to training camp last weekend and was put on PUP, but his hold-out-turned-hold-in came to a head Thursday night when the receiver requested a trade, according to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports. The 29-year-old has one more year left on a three-year, $71 million contract he signed with Washington in 2022, and though he hasn't made his contract demands public, McLaurin likely wants to be paid in line with the NFL's top receivers. He could be seeking a deal that pays him close to the $33 million annually that D.K. Metcalf signed with the Steelers following his offseason trade from Seattle. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported there's been no progress in negotiations between McLaurin and the Commanders, which have now stalled. The Athletic is reporting the Commanders have no desire to trade McLaurin, but they may not have a choice if the two-time Pro Bowler feels the relationship is frayed beyond repair. If that's the case, the Patriots should jump right in and try to snag McLaurin for Maye's receiving corps. McLaurin has been one of the best receivers since he was drafted by Washington in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He's coming off a career season for the rejuvenated Washington franchise, where he had 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns. It earned McLaurin All-Pro Second-Team honors, and helped the Commanders make it to the NFC Championship Game. McLaurin did wonders for Jayden Daniels during his rookie season, and he'd do the same for Maye in New England. He'd be a difference-maker in the receiving corps alongside veteran addition Stefon Diggs. Having McLaurin, Diggs, and DeMario Douglas as the team's top three receivers would give OC Josh McDaniels an incredibly dangerous offense to work with going forward. McLaurin has found the end zone 38 times in his career, and has topped 1,000 receiving yards in each of the last five seasons. The Patriots haven't had a 1000-yard receiver since Julian Edelman hit the century mark in 2019. A game-changing talent like McLaurin will require quite the trade package going back to Washington, and then whichever team acquires him will have to dish out some big bucks on an extension. The Patriots can be that team if they want. While New England's crop of receivers likely won't appeal much to Washington -- unless they can really sell the unseen upside of guys like Ja'Lynn Polk and Javon Baker -- the Patriots can offer up a number of future second-round picks to get a trade done. Veteran receiver Kendrick Bourne and Kayshon Boutte could also be dangled in a deal, though again, the main course of a trade would be the draft compensation going to the Commanders. And if the Patriots can get McLaurin in the building, Vrabel can chat with him former Buckeye to former Buckeye to convince him to sign long-term. If that doesn't work, money can do the talking; The Patriots have almost $60 million in cap space and are one of the few teams in the NFL that could give McLaurin the extension he desires. There will be competition should the Commanders have to trade away their star receiver, with the Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders, and San Francisco 49ers other possible suitors. But the Patriots should do what they can to add McLaurin to help jumpstart the team's offense and maximize the early years of Drake Maye's career.

He joked with his defense, including Jabrill Peppers, that they could have had a few interceptions here and there, but overall, the 22-year-old quarterback has been on the money with his throws. 'I think that's a goal of ours, to protect the football,' he said. 'Not trying to — like I said — [jinx] the perfect game or no-hitter. But I think that's part of it. I'm not scared to throw it. I'm still not gunshy.' ▪ Celtics coach Advertisement 'Joe is fantastic. I appreciate him just from the time that I got here, reaching out,' Vrabel said. Sunday Patriots Notes: Christian Gonzalez catching the league's attention

The New England Patriots have begun trickling back into Gillette Stadium as the start of training camp is right around the corner. To help set the stage for anything not covered in our positional previews and our Patriots player profile series, welcome to this week's Sunday Patriots Notes. Gonzo's recognition After spending the majority of his rookie season on the sideline with an injury, Christian Gonzalez caught the league's attention his sophomore season. The Patriots top corner was ranked 84th in the NFL's Top 100. Then, Gonzalez earned a spot on ESPN's Jeremy Fowler's top-10 cornerback ranking. 'I think Gonzo is the next great one,' a veteran NFL assistant said. 'Skills, patience, length. He's the closest thing to Pat [Surtain II]. Smooth, big athlete, travels a lot, can matchup against the best guy.' The All-Pro finished sixth in positional voting, although at least one voter — from a group of executives, coaches and scouts — ranked Gonzalez first. Surtain, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, was one of the few who ranked ahead of Gonzalez. That group also consisted of Derek Stingley Jr., Denzel Ward, Trent McDuffie, and Sauce Gardner, who recently became the league's highest paid cornerback — perhaps setting the market for Gonzalez's extension next offseason. 'He's got the size and coverage skills to put him on the outside and he can handle himself, and he can also come up and play run support and play within the construct of the defense,' an NFL coordinator told ESPN about Gonzalez. Moses leading Throughout the Patriots offseason program, it was clear that veteran offensive tackle Morgan Moses was a leader among the offensive line. Moses often stayed late after practice to talk through different techniques with New England's younger lineman — with No. 4 overall pick Will Campbell often being part of the group. 'I think Morgan has done a great job. It's the right type of message, the right type of leadership which he's been able to give to us,' offensive line coach Doug Marrone said on Forged in Foxboro. No PUP During his recovery from a torn ACL, wide receiver Stefon Diggs has set his sights on suiting up Week 1 for the Patriots. With the team not placing him on the Physically Unable to Perform list ahead of training camp, the receiver appears to continue to progress well in his recovery. Throughout the offseason program, Diggs appeared to be moving well just seven months since the injury. He did not, however, take part of full team drills in the spring. Thirty-Two With TreVeyon Henderson signing his contract, the Patriots have their full draft class signed ahead of training camp. When the back now takes the field, he will continue to do so rocking No. 32 — the number his grandfather wore when he himself played running back, and the rookie has carried on the tradition since he passed away. 'I didn't get a chance to see him and so, I just try to carry on that legacy to really make [my mom] smile — put a smile on her face,' Henderson said. 'It means a lot, you know, there are times where I wanted to go back to my high school and I was like, no, I'll keep it for my mom.' Maye arrives Ready to get back to work, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was among a group of players that arrived back at Gillette Stadium early on Thursday. All quarterbacks, in addition too rookies, returned to the facility on Saturday. It was a break well spent for Maye, who married longtime girlfriend Ann Michael Hudson in June, honeymooned in St. Lucia, and then attended Wimbledon. Maye then got back to work in North Carolina with a handful of Patriots teammates, who also made sure to spend time together off the field at the lake and in the pool. Setting up the week ahead With QBs, rookies, and a handful of others back in Foxboro, non-rehabbing veterans will officially report on Tuesday. Mike Vrabel and a handful of players will then address the media. New England's first practice of the summer will then begin on Wednesday, July 23rd at 10:15 a.m. ET (beginning earlier than last season's typical 11 a.m. start time). The Patriots will wrap up the week with additional sessions Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
