How a business idea left Ananya Panday with fake Labubu dolls on her 'Chanel bag', reveals actress

Time of Indiaa day ago
Labubu dolls, the quirky designer plush toys that have taken Gen Z and social media by storm, are now more than just collectibles—they're fashion statements. These mischievous monsters from Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung's The Monsters series are being spotted on the arms and bags of many celebrities, from Urvashi Rautela flaunting four at Wimbledon to Khushi Kapoor and even her father Boney Kapoor comparing them to social media personality Orry. But not all of these cuddly companions are the real deal. Enter Lafufu—the name given to counterfeit versions of Labubu dolls, which have flooded online marketplaces due to soaring demand and skyrocketing prices. While originals can cost anywhere from Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,500, Lafufus are sold for just a few hundred rupees. In a now-viral video posted by socialite and friend Orhan Awatramani, Ananya Panday openly acknowledged that the dolls on her Chanel handbag weren't genuine Labubus. When Orry zoomed in on the toy and asked, 'Ananya, is this fake?' the actress smiled and replied, 'It is! But it's on a Chanel bag, so no one will ever know.'The video also revealed how Ananya ended up with the imitation dolls in the first place. Explaining the mix-up, she said, 'My friend Ridhima was trying to start a Labubu business and she ordered 100 of them but she got the Lafufus.' Instead of discarding them, Ananya decided to make the best of the situation—attaching the knockoffs to her luxury accessories. The confession struck a chord with fans online. Many praised her for being honest and unfazed, with one user commenting, 'She is so chill about it… loved it,' while others joked, 'Buy Lafufu, it's Indian. Labubu is Chinese.'This isn't the first time Ananya has been seen with the viral dolls. She's been photographed multiple times at the airport with Labubu dolls hanging from her expensive designer bags , which until now, were presumed authentic. On the work front, Ananya was last seen in Kesari Chapter 2, playing a lawyer alongside Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan. She now has two upcoming films—Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, a romantic comedy directed by Sameer Vidwans where she stars opposite Kartik Aaryan, and Chand Mera Dil, a romantic drama by Vivek Soni, co-starring Lakshya and Pratham Rathod.Additionally, she's currently rooting for her cousin Ahaan Panday's debut film Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri, which releases tomorrow.

Ananya shared glimpses from the event, including a sweet photo with Ahaan and a selfie proudly flaunting a sticker that read 'Ahaan Panday Fan Club." Bobby Deol, fresh off the Animal wave, was seen interacting with the young debutant, while Disha Patani, who also stars in the film, posed for pictures with fans and co-stars. According to early estimates from Sacnilk, Saiyaara grossed Rs 20.50 crore on its opening day — setting a new record for debutant-led films in Bollywood. Previously, the record was held by Dhadak (2018) with an opening of Rs 8.71 crore and Student of the Year (2012) with Rs 7.48 crore. Directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara follows the love story of Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday), a dreamer who wants to become a singing sensation, and Vaani Batra (Aneet Padda), an aspiring journalist. Their lives take unexpected turns as love, ambition, and societal pressures clash in this emotionally charged romance. As Saiyaara continues to perform strongly at the box office, the special screening served as both a warm welcome for Ahaan Panday into Bollywood and a celebration of young talent making a splash on the big screen. First Indian institute of creative tech opened, classes from Sept

Mumbai: India's first campus of Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT), modelled after IITs and IIMs that will serve as a national centre of excellence dedicated to the animation, visual effects, gaming, comics and extended reality sector, was inaugurated by I&B minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday. The first batch of 300 students will begin classes in Sept at the campus on National Films Development Corporation's premises in Pedder Road. With world-class infrastructure, including fully equipped classrooms, advanced media labs, post-production suites and dedicated spaces for animation training, it provides a state-of-the-art learning environment. Vaishnaw said the institute has partnered with Google, Meta, NVIDIA, Microsoft, Apple, Adobe and WPP to design industry-focused training modules in the fields of VFX, gaming and extended reality, adding that Rs 400 crore was allocated for its construction. "This is the fulfilment of PM Narendra Modi's vision to have a world-class institution to train people for the creative economy. I am glad that we inaugurated the first IICT campus in Mumbai in such a short span," he said. He added that he personally went through the architectural presentations in detail for another campus being built at Film City in Goregaon. "I assure you it is going to be one of the finest campuses." CM Devendra Fadnavis and state culture minister Ashish Shelar joined Vaishnaw in launching the outcome report of the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) that was held in the city from May 1-4. Over 100 countries participated in the WAVES event, which saw around 1 lakh visitors. Fadnavis announced a dedicated Rs 150-crore fund to promote the WAVES initiative and the creative economy, expressing hope that the Centre would extend its support too. "Just as WAVES revolutionised the entire creative economy, IICT stands as a testament to all the hard work," said the CM. "In the coming years, IICT will emerge not only as an institution of world-class education but also as an architectural and cultural landmark in Mumbai." Bharat Pavilion, a museum on the visual history and legacy of India's entertainment industry, was also inaugurated at Gulshan Mahal on the same premises. The museum, said Fadnavis, will serve as a major tourist attraction. (With agency inputs)

Artists protest, urge govt to reopen Rabindra Bhawan shut for three years

1 2 3 4 Guwahati: Several artists on Friday staged a protest outside Rabindra Bhawan near Dighalipukhuri demanding the reopening of the iconic venue. The demonstration, marked by placards and impromptu performances, was seen as a message against what many called the state's neglect of art and heritage. The unavailability of Rabindra Bhawan's auditorium, which has been closed for three years for renovation work, has given theatre aficionados a tough time, as there is no recreational space for them to practice their art. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while talking to the media on Friday assured that work is underway and the venue will be reopened soon for the artists. Rabindra Bhawan is under the state cultural affairs department and operated smoothly until 2018. Though briefly reopened in 2022, it was shut again due to water seepage problems and has remained closed since. Himangshu Prasad Das, a theatre practitioner, said, "There is no anternative for us. I have been performing in Rabindra Bhawan since 2022, and now we are struggling to find a space. Although, there is Srimanta Sankardev auditorium in Kalakshetra, but they will only provide space if we pay for it, and the rents has soared over the years -- Rs 30-35,000 – which many artists can't afford," Another artist Naren Patgiri, while speaking to media, said, "A part of Rabindra Bhawan should be reopened for artists. Eminent personalities like Satya Prasad Baruah, Rudra Baruah, and Mahendra Barthakur emerged from this very space. Even we have been performing here for years. This place has nurtured generations of artists, and we hope the upcoming generation also gets the same opportunity to grow and shine. That's why we urge the state govt to complete the renovation work within six months and reopen the place. It is a public property, and if the govt truly values art and culture, it must act accordingly."
