Shaftesbury snail trail launched ahead of fringe festival
The competition will end on 21 July and whoever has collected the most will win a prize, Ms Burleigh explained.Talking to Radio Solent's Dorset Breakfast host Steve Harris, she said she likes to use snails for the trail because they can be hidden anywhere."You can put them sideways, upside down, anywhere around doors. I honestly don't remember where the idea first came from it just seemed like a good idea at the time," Ms Burleigh said.
Havign run the trail previously, Ms Burleigh said she tries to recycle a few of her pieces, but there are usually a few new creations each year."I do lose them and have to make more, so they're not always the same snails and not in the same place. I try and adapt them too, so a snail with bandages might be in the hospital, they have characters," she added.The snails have been hidden around the town and inside local businesses, with owners able to put them wherever they see fit during the festival.Ms Burleigh added: "It [the festival] covers the whole of the town and it's different venues, music, art, comedy, street performers. "It's quite a diverse time and the whole town gets into it, it's quite a thing for Shaftesbury."

One strand of this sound's DNA can be traced back to Dean Blunt's warped experimentalism. Anyone attuned to the enigmatic London musician's output is likely already aware of his long-term collaborator Joanne Robertson, a fixture on 2021's Black Metal 2 and last year's Backstage Raver among others. For those outside the Bluntverse, she's likely to go overground this year as the latest tendril from its world, her new album Blurr adding folky shades to this invitingly squalid sonic scene. Robertson is also a painter, and uses improvisation in both media. 'I want the works to almost fail,' she once said. 'I struggle with conceived notions of beauty.' The songs on Blurr hang together like spider webs, her blurred and belly-deep acoustic strums seeming to have no beginning or end. There's a blunt weightiness to her playing that might recall the Kentucky post-rock scene of the early 90s, which anchors her searching vocals. She has a way with unearthing hypnotic pockets of melody; single Gown has something of Sinéad O'Connor's Celtic hymns to it. Moments of sharpness evoke confrontational early Cat Power; the softer shades Jessica Pratt's watercolour delivery. Meanwhile, the distance at which she sings brings to mind how Grouper's music feels like following a wraithlike presence through a misty forest. Cello by Oliver Coates burnishes this uncanny sound world, one that finds unexpected openness and hope in the murk. BBC launches probe into ‘cocaine use' by Strictly stars
The BBC has launched an investigation into alleged cocaine use by two Strictly Come Dancing stars. Reports in The Sun allege their drug use was discussed on the show, and that the BBC had appointed law firm Pinsent Masons to lead the investigation. According to reports, the allegations were made in a legal submission by law firm Russells in March on behalf of former contestant Wynne Evans, who was dropped by the BBC after apologising for using 'inappropriate language' during the launch of the Strictly tour. Others have also reported drug use on the show, according to The Sun. A BBC spokesperson said: 'We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. 'We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further.' It is understood that the BBC often appoints external law firms to help it lead investigations, while reporting back to an internal team. The cast members involved in the investigation were not named by The Sun. It comes after the BBC launched a review into Strictly in 2024 that looked into allegations of bullying and harassment against former professional dancer Giovanni Pernice, made by his former dance partner Amanda Abbington. The corporation upheld some, but not all, of the complaints made - and introduced a series of new measures aimed at improving welfare. This included the introduction of a chaperone who is present 'at all times' during training room rehearsals. EastEnders star James Borthwick was also suspended from the BBC after a video emerged of the actor using a disabled slur on the set of the dance programme. Borthwick apologised, saying he was 'deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused'.
