Malaysia-bound motorists urged to avoid Tuas Second Link on July 23 due to chemical spill exercise
Motorists will be diverted to a lane on the opposite carriageway instead.
SINGAPORE - Motorists heading to Malaysia on July 23 should avoid using the Tuas Checkpoint from 5am to 2pm , as there will be an ongoing emergency response exercise.
Singapore's National Environment Agency (NEA) and Malaysia's Department of Environment , together with other agencies, will be holding a chemical spill exercise during that period, as part of a bilateral cooperation programme under the Malaysia-Singapore Joint Committee on the Environment .
During that period, all three lanes on the Singapore to Malaysia-bound carriageway on the Tuas Second Link will be closed to vehicular traffic, the NEA said in a statement on July 21 .
Motorists will be diverted to a lane on the opposite carriageway instead.
NEA urged motorists to plan their journey in advance, follow the directions of traffic marshals on site and tune in to Singapore radio stations for traffic updates.
They are also encouraged to use the Woodlands Checkpoint during this period.
The bilateral multi-agency exercise will simulate an emergency response to a multi-vehicle collision along the Tuas Second Link involving trucks carrying chemicals.

Charles Leclerc was a distant third for Ferrari as dominant champions McLaren celebrated their sixth one-two finish in 13 races and the third in a row. The race at Spa-Francorchamps was red-flagged after an initial formation lap and delayed by an hour and 20 minutes due to the weather, with standing water and heavy spray affecting visibility. Once the racing got going Piastri made quick work of overtaking pole-sitter Norris on a dominant afternoon for the Australian, who finished 3.415 seconds clear. REUTERS

After an initial formation lap behind the safety car, the cars were brought into the pit lane and the starting procedure halted. "I can't see a lot behind the safety car so I can't imagine what it's like for everyone else," McLaren's pole-sitter Lando Norris, who is nine points behind championship-leading teammate Oscar Piastri, said over the team radio. After the long wait, the FIA cleared the race to start once standing water had been removed. The safety car then led the field around to assess visibility before a rolling start was decided. The rain-affected 2021 Belgian Grand Prix remains the shortest race in Formula One history with only three laps completed behind the safety car and half points awarded. "We should just run," said Red Bull's reigning champion Max Verstappen over the radio when the red flags were shown. "They're way too cautious." Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed.
