His multiple causes of death included pneumonia, acute kidney injury, covid and lung condition COPD.
It was also noted on his death certificate he died after falling and being unable to get up at his flat in the capital's Broughton district.
Glasgow-born McCafferty - dubbed Australia's Charles Manson - died last year but details of his death and its causes has only recently been lodged.
A source said: 'He died in lonely agony.
'But after what he did to all his victims and the pain he inflicted on their families, he deserves to rot in hell.'
In an interview with The Scottish Sun in March 2006, McCafferty, said: 'The truth is murdering people meant nothing to me. It was the same as picking my nose.'
McCafferty, whose family emigrated to Australia when he was ten, went on a five-day killing spree after the accidental death of his six-week-old son Craig in 1973.
During a drug-fuelled visit to the tot's grave, he believed he heard his baby say he would be reborn if his dad killed seven people.
He began his killing spree in 1973 by stabbing a newspaper seller, George Anson, 50, seven times.
Two days later, dad-of-seven Ronald Cox, 42, picked up two of McCafferty's gang who were out hitch-hiking.

They abducted him at gunpoint and took him to McCafferty.
Ronald pleaded for his life, asking the killer to think of his children, but McCafferty shot him in the back of the head.
Hours later, McCafferty claimed his third victim.
He ordered one of his gang to blast driving instructor Evangelos Kollias to death with a sawn-off shotgun.
McCafferty was caged for life, and in 1978 he got a further 16 years for butchering fellow inmate Edward Lyon.
But after 23 years in a Down Under jail, bearded McCafferty, who never got Australian citizenship, was deported to Scotland.
McCafferty, who has lived in 30 different locations since his arrival, was then jailed for holding first wife Mandy hostage after she told him she would take their two kids back to Australia.
During a tense siege in 2004 he taunted riot cops, yelling: 'Don't f*** with me - if you want a Mad Dog, you have got one.'
In 2007, McCafferty claimed he turned down the offer of £15,000 to kill a drug lord's gangland rival.
Two years later he insisted he turned his back on crime to become a toymaker after completing a woodwork course he'd been sent on as part of a community service placement for driving a car with dodgy licence plates.

Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Rab Thomson has had his bid for freedom denied by the parole board Credit: Mark Ferguson He stabbed his son Ryan, seven, and disabled daughter Michelle, 25, multiple times and left them in their beds. His then-wife, June, walked into the family home in Buckhaven, Fife, in 2008 and found their lifeless bodies. Thomson was caged for a minimum of 17 years for the depraved murders. We previously told how June, who now stays at a secret address, lives "in terror" at the prospect of Thomson being freed. But a parole hearing this month led to the sicko being denied freedom. Richard Baker, Labour MP for Glenrothes and Mid Fife, has told how Thomson's parole bid has been knocked back, as reported by the Daily Record. He said: "Rab Thomson, who killed his son, seven, and disabled daughter in Buckhaven in 2008, has been denied parole. "My wife, Claire Baker MSP and I, who wrote to the board seeking this outcome, welcome the decision. I'm sure many people in Levenmouth will feel the same." June fled violent Thomson after suffering beatings and sexual assaults at his hands. She said: "I've lived in terror of this day coming, knowing that Rab would apply for parole the second he possibly could. Two men rushed to hospital after rammy outside Scots pub "Rab always warned me that if I dared to leave him, I would regret that day for the rest of my life. "If I had only known he intended murdering Michelle and Ryan, I would have stayed and put up with the continued rapes and beatings inflicted on me, rather than lose my precious children. "I still hear their screams of terror in my nightmares when they realised it was their own father stabbing them." June added: "No amount of time in jail would suffice for what he had done, but just 17 years for what he did to my children was not nearly long enough. All this time, I have lived in dread of him getting free. "Now that day is becoming a reality. After years of beatings, I am almost blind. I also suffer from severe mobility and balance problems."

CCTV captures three Edinburgh teen hoods 'attempting to steal' motorbike

Three hooded teens have been caught on CCTV "attempting to steal" a motorbike. CCTV has captured the moment a brazen youth gang 'attempt to steal' a motorbike on a residential Edinburgh street. Shortly after 7pm on Saturday July 5, Three hooded teens were filmed inspecting the bike under a cover on Fernieside Avenue. As they attempt to lift the cover off the bike, another male youth can be seen keeping an eye out while riding an e-scooter as the group attempt to get to the bike right outside the owners' home, reports Edinburgh Live. The youth on the e-scooter, wearing a balaclava, can be seen gesturing to someone further down the street before riding closer to the group as they all quickly disperse. According to Ross Munro, a member of the Stolen Motorbikes Edinburgh group, the youths were deterred by neighbours and the fact the bike was attached to 'heavy duty chains'. Ross and other members of the biker community have recently teamed up in a bid to help police tackle motorbike crime and theft. The group actively report any illegal use of bikes, thefts and attempted thefts, to police. They also regularly patrol areas around the city on the hunt for stolen bikes and 'stash spots' as well as helping to identify those actively involved in motorbike crime. Police Scotland have been contacted for further comment. Yesterday, in a separate incident, we reported that a Scots cafe has been targeted by a gang of youths for the third time in a week after nearby business owners warned they are 'under siege' from feral groups. Last weekend a firework was let off near customers at Sir Walter's Cafe in Princes Street in Edinburgh, exploding near women and young children. Just days later, two female youths were captured breaking open a shutter and raiding the cafe, reports Edinburgh Live. Paulius Bernotas, who owns the business in Princes Street Gardens, raised concerns over an increase in antisocial behaviour from large groups of youths in the area and called on police to carry out regular patrols to deter further offending. On Thursday July 3, several male youths appeared to approach the cafe shortly before midnight and attempted to prize open the same shutter before turning the camera away from them. According to Paulius, more damage was dealt to the unit, but nothing appears to have been taken. Two hooded male youths can be seen approaching the cafe and attempting to pull open the wooden shutter before two females join them. In the background, people can be seen walking along Princes Street, looking towards the group. A hand is then visible as the camera is moved away from them while they allegedly broke the doors open. After being approached about a rise in youth-related incidents within Princes Street Gardens, Sergeant Robert Richardson said officers are currently running a dedicated initiative which involves high-visibility patrols specifically targeting antisocial behaviour on Princes Street and the surrounding area. Paulius previously told how groups regularly make their way around Princes Street Gardens with speakers during the day and approach his cafe and seating area in the afternoon. Despite being asked to leave by staff, groups continue to 'look for a reaction' and vandalise his cafe. The raid on the unit earlier this week left Paulius with a bill of around £2,000 to repair damage caused to the shutter and a fridge. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
