Ohio invites everyone to America's 250th birthday bash
Why it matters: The birthday party will last all year and all 88 counties are on the guest list after passing resolutions to participate.
The semiquincentennial is meant to be a unifying moment as we celebrate our state and its place in U.S. history.
Case in point: This time next year, the Ohio History Center will be one of several sites hosting a community picnic to bring people together.
Catch up quick: Planning kicked off back in 2022. The festivities will include signature statewide events, as well as one-off celebrations in participating communities.
The Ohio legislature is funding much of the programming and some has already begun.
"We're thrilled at how Ohioans are really embracing this," America 250-Ohio executive director Todd Klesmit tells Axios.
The latest: Expect to see 250-Ohio marchers in Thursday's Red, White & Boom parade, stepping off at 5:30pm, and find activities at the Ohio State Fair later this month, inside the Lausche Building.
Some of what's planned for 2026:
🗓️ Monthly celebration themes, including "Ohio firsts," farms, fairs, arts and sports.
An estimated 7,000 Revolutionary War veterans are buried in Ohio. This effort will honor them by mapping their final resting places with the public's help.
🚂 250 Buckeye Train: Take a train ride on the historic Pennsylvania Railroad to the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum in Eastern Ohio.
There are two round trips, departing from Columbus (April 25, $150) or Newark (April 26, $135). Tickets.

Superman's David Corenswet Had A Very Strong Opinion On His Costume Having Trunks, And I Completely Agree With Him
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. When designing a costume for the Man of Steel, some things are hard and fast requirements. He has to have a cape, despite what Edna Mode would tell him. (No capes!) And he has to have that giant 'S' on his chest. These elements define Superman. What you might not have realized, however, is how much discussion goes into the inclusion of trunks, or shorts, on the Superman suit design. Different directors over the years have stamped their own take on the hero, most notably with Zack Snyder going 'No Trunks' for his approach with Henry Cavill – a fan favorite. So when CinemaBlend took the trip to Cleveland, Ohio to visit the set of James Gunn's upcoming DC movie Superman, we made it our minor mission to get to the bottom of the Trunks debate with regards to David Corenswet's Kal-El. As we saw in the first-look photo for Superman, as well as in the Superman teaser trailer, Gunn's Superman sports shorts. While speaking with Corenswet about the conversation, we asked him point blank if he was ever in the No Trunks camp. And he told CInemaBlend, flat out: No. Not even for a minute. There you have it. The definitive answer, directly from the new Superman's mouth. It was later in the day, however, when we got to speak at length with James Gunn that he elaborated on David Corenswet's approach to the costume, and why the actor felt like this Superman needed the red shorts. Some might dismiss it as a creative choice made by Superman costume designer Judianna Makovsky. Not so. As Gunn told us, a LOT of conversation went into the choice, with Corenswet eventually winning his director over from the 'No Trunks' army. Gunn said: One of the things David said is that Superman wants kids to not be afraid of him. He's an alien. He's got these incredible powers. He shoots beams out of his eyes, [he] can blow the truck over. He's this incredibly powerful – could be considered scary – individual, and he wants people to like him. He wants to be a symbol of hope and positivity. So he dresses like a professional wrestler. He dresses in a way that makes people unafraid of him, that shows that. That really clicked in for me. It clicks for me, as well. Is this Superman going to be a little more family friendly? Possibly. As we saw from the early promotional material, Superman (Corenswet) has a pet dog named Krypto, and smiles while he flies. That doesn't mean he isn't fighting massive alien creatures, facing down real threats from Lex Luthor (Nicolas Hoult), and risking himself to save our planet. It just means that this version of the hero will lean closer to hope and optimism than the iteration offered up in Zack Snyder's universe. So, no one will get their neck snapped in this summer's DC blockbuster. That's my best guess, anyway. Be thinking of these little decisions when you watch Superman, which opens on July 11 as part of the 2025 movie schedule. They actually are big decisions, and they tell us more about the characters than you might have realized. Red trunks are red trunks. But to David Corenswet, they are a conscious choice by this alien visitor to make children more comfortable in his presence. And I think that's sweet. Make sure you have your tickets to Superman so you can see it on opening day.

Actor Kurt Russell spends July 4th visiting home of his ancestor in Arlington, Massachusetts
Actor Kurt Russell spent his Fourth of July visiting the home of his ancestor in Arlington, Massachusetts. Russell was joined by one of his sons, Boston Russell, who visited the Jason Russell House and Museum. The Hollywood star is best known for his roles in "Tombstone," "Escape from New York," and the Marvel movie, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Actor Kurt Russell spent his Fourth of July visiting the home of his ancestor in Arlington, Massachusetts. Town of Arlington Jason is Kurt's eighth great-grandfather and his son's ninth. "I'm very amazed, honored and proud of the fact that my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather was so instrumental in changing the world," Kurt said. "It's fantastic. To learn this at this time in my life is kind of shocking." Kurt Russell tours historical sites in Massachusetts Kurt said that the first time he heard about his ancestor was when his son, Boston, and his other son, Wyatt Russell, were speaking about him. Then he said that someone reached out to his agent about their connection to Jason. His ancestor fought and died during the Battle of Lexington, Concord, and Mentomy during the Revolutionary War on April 19, 1776. Jason was killed on his own doorstep, according to the legend. He also built the house, the Town of Arlington said. Kurt and his son were given a guided tour of the home, a look at their historical collection, documents from the battle, and the 13 bullet holes in the house. They then visited Jason's gravesite in the Old Burying Ground. "This coming to Arlington and understanding what took place in Mentomy, which became Arlington, and the connection that I have with learning about him is kind of fascinating because I'm already hearing things that remind me of my father, my grandfather, my great-grandfather that I remember in my life. Maybe even in myself. DNA is a funny thing. That's what I'm being struck by, how connected. It wasn't that long ago," Russell explained. Kurt said that there were some connections to the area that he hadn't even realized, like his son's name, Boston, which had nothing to do with the city. He also mentioned that April 19 is significant in their family already, as it is his stepdaughter Kate Hudson's birthday. "We keep finding these connections that are pretty fun," Kurt said.
