Tommy Fleetwood vs. Keegan Bradley at the Travelers Championship Had Big Ryder Cup Energy
Tommy Fleetwood vs. Keegan Bradley at the Travelers Championship Had Big Ryder Cup Energy originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
A lot was on the line on Sunday at the Travelers Championship. Tommy Fleetwood was chasing his first PGA Tour title after 41 career top ten finishes without a win. Keegan Bradley was looking for a win and the signature event points that come along with it, which would inch him closer to qualifying outright to play on his own Ryder Cup team this September at Bethpage Black. He would become the first playing Ryder Cup captain since Arnold Palmer last held that role in 1963.

These two storylines collided in dramatic fashion as the 34 year-old European Ryder Cup veteran and 39 year-old American Ryder Cup Captain teed off together in the final group on Sunday at the Travelers Championship. What started off as the final round of a stroke play tournament quickly started to feel like match play between Fleetwood and Bradley, as noted by commentators during the CBS broadcast of the tournament, especially as the final group made their way down the finishing holes.

'Mini Ryder Cup moment right now,' explained golf commentator, Frank Nobilo, as chants of 'U.S.A! U.S.A!' erupted from the crowd on the 16th hole following Bradley's tee shot and continued while Fleetwood was getting ready to hit.
'Tommy's experienced that a lot,' Nobilo continued, referring to chants from the opposing team during Ryder Cup matches.

CBS golf commentator Trevor Immelman even suggested the 'U.S.A.' chants might help Fleetwood, calling out how the Europeans have such a great record at the Ryder Cup and are able to use a fired up crowd to help focus on the shot at hand.
The match play moments continued through the 72nd hole, where Bradley was one down with one to play, in match play terms, and delivered a devastating blow to Fleetwood with a clutch birdie, making his putt on top of Fleetwood's missed putt on the exact same line.
One thing is for certain, though. If the 2025 Ryder Cup is anything like the exchange between Bradley and Fleetwood in the final round of the Travelers Championship, we're in for a wild ride at Bethpage Black come September.

Dietrich Enns returns to MLB after 1,371 days to pitch 5 scoreless innings in start for Tigers
DETROIT (AP) — Dietrich Enns probably won't have to wait another 1,371 days for another chance to pitch in the major leagues. Enns threw five scoreless innings while allowing only one single and two walks in a start for Detroit on Thursday in the Tigers' 8-0 win over the Athletics. It was the 34-year-old left-hander's first big league game since Sept. 24, 2021. 'He's earned the right to pitch again in some capacity,' Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said. 'We're looking forward to getting him out there after we get him his normal rest and see if it's going to be in the bullpen. Is he going to be starting, I don't know. But it's going to be in the big leagues.' After pitching the past three years in Japan and Korea, Enns went to spring training this year with the Tigers on a minor league deal. The former Central Michigan University pitcher got called up from Triple-A Toledo for his Detroit debut in the series finale against the Athletics. 'That was always the goal, to get back,' Enns said. 'Use those stops along the way, wherever I was, to hone the craft and get better and try and be as good as I can when I'm at the major league level.' Enns' last big league appearance had been two innings in relief for Tampa Bay against Miami at the end of the 2021 season. He was with the Seibu Lions in Japan from 2022-23 before going 13-6 last year for the LG Twins in South Korea. The Athletics were retired 1-2-3 on eight pitches in the first inning. Enns struck out four while throwing 55 of 77 pitches for strikes to the 17 batters he faced. 'That was incredible. I mean, good for him and obviously good for our team and good for the organization. A lot of people contributed to this moment,' Hinch said. 'Dietrich came in and stayed under control and stayed within himself from all the excitement and the return after a thousand days or whatever it's been. Delivered a great performance at a time when we needed it. So hats off to him and everyone around him that helped get him to this moment.' Enns made only his second start in 12 big league games. He has a 3-0 record, the first two wins coming in relief against the Tigers when he was pitching for Tampa Bay in 2021. He pitched in two games, with one start, for Minnesota in 2017. 'Did exactly what he needed to do. ... Stuck to the plan and got a lot of quick outs,' catcher Jake Rogers said. 'He did a really good job of just being in zone with all of his pitches, and giving me the reins of kind of going a lot of different ways. He kept them off balance.' ___ AP MLB:

Stowers, Ramírez go deep as Marlins top Giants 12-5 to complete series sweep
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Kyle Stowers and Agustín Ramírez each homered and the Miami Marlins beat the San Francisco Giants 12-5 on Thursday to complete a three-game series sweep. Xavier Edwards had a two-run double for Miami, which has won four straight overall, five of six, and six straight on the road. Rafael Devers had three hits including a homer and a double for San Francisco, which has lost eight of its last 11. Devers' homer was his 17th and his second in nine games since being acquired by San Francisco last week. The Marlins broke a 5-5 tie in the fifth on Eric Wagaman's two-run double in a three-run inning. Stowers hit a three-run homer in the first and Ramírez hit a two-run shot in the third — both off Giants starter Hayden Birdsong — to give Miami a 5-0 lead. Devers hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third, and the Giants tied it in the fourth when June Hoo Lee's leadoff triple keyed a three-run inning. Birdsong (3-2) allowed seven runs and four hits with four walks in four-plus innings. Josh Simpson (1-0) got the last out of the fourth after Janson Junk allowed five runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. Key moment Marlins manager Clayton McCullough was ejected after umpires warned both benches in the top of the first after Miami shortstop Otto Lopez was hit by a pitch. The warnings followed three Giants players being struck by pitches Wednesday night in a 10-inning 8-5 loss to Miami. Key stat Devers got his 700th career RBI. Up next Marlins RHP Eury Pérez (0-2, 6.17 ERA) will pitch the series opener Friday night against the Diamondbacks RHP Merrill Kelly (7-3, 3.39) in Arizona. Giants RHP Landen Roupp (5-5, 3.67) will pitch for the Giants against the White Sox RHP Aaron Civale (1-4, 5.03) in Chicago. ___ AP MLB:
