Major car dealer issues urgent recall over risk of oil pump fire… is YOUR vehicle impacted?

Daily Mail08-05-2025

A top-selling car brand has issued a recall over a potential fire risk.
Hyundai is recalling 620 units of its 2025 Palisade SUV due to a defect that could lead to an engine fire.
The issue stems from an insufficient seal on the controller for the vehicle's electric oil pump, which may let moisture seep into the electronics and short the system.
Hyundai said a supplier is at fault for the issue. A machine with a faulty spring produced the seals for the 620 cars.
The recall, which the company announced on May 5, is precautionary. Hyundai said it has not received any reports of fires from Palisade owners.
Owners can still drive their cars and will receive a recall notice in the mail after July 4.
As a preventive measure, the company is advising impacted Palisade owners to park their SUVs away from buildings until they can get their free repair.
Hyundai didn't specify how long it will take for the company to supply parts for the issue.
A representative for the company didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Palisade has been an important part of Hyundai's North America rebrand.
Hyundai, which initially entered the US market with low-cost, cheap-to-make vehicles, has leaned into luxury offerings like the Palisade.
The three-row SUV, which major review publications compared to mid-tier offerings like the Toyota Highlander and the Ford Explorer, sold 110,055 units last year.
Hyundai has reported selling 36,737 copies so far this year. That puts it on pace for a 7 percent increase in the full year.
Customers have responded to the car's lush interior and simple, boxy design.
But the company is planning a reboot in 2026 that will bring even more daring body lines to the vehicle.
The next iteration of the Palisade, which debuted for the US market at this year's New York International Auto Show, has stacked LED headlights and a silver, angled accent in the rear pillar that is reminiscent of some Land Rover models.
José Muñoz, Hyundai's CEO, recently revealed a newly designed Palisade SUV
The Palisade is getting a major refresh for the 2026 model year
Hyundai's older products came to market as cheaper alternatives to American-made vehicles
The company has also redone the designs on the Santa Fe, Tucson, and Ioniq 6 to up the brand's luxury appeal across the lineup.
The Korean manufacturer has been making moves for several years that might insulate some of its lineup from the huge impacts of President Donald Trump's sweeping 25 percent automotive tariffs.
Hyundai built a multi-billion-dollar megaplant in Georgia that is set to produce the Ioniq series of electric cars.
The company initially launched plans to build the factory in 2017.
Recently, Hyundai announced further investment in US manufacturing for its EV line.
Now, the company is working to build more battery and steel capacity to supply to its new Georgia plant.
President Trump has touted Hyundai's investment as a policy win for his administration several times.

US auto sales rate plunges in May after pre-tariff rush fades

June 3 (Reuters) - The U.S. light vehicle sales rate slumped in May by the most in about five years following a rush by auto shoppers during the previous two months to beat anticipated price hikes stoked by President Donald Trump's tariffs on imported automobiles. Wards Intelligence on Tuesday reported the seasonally adjusted annual rate of light vehicle sales plunged to 15.65 million units last month from a revised 17.25 million in April and 17.83 million in March. May's drop in the SAAR of about 1.6 million was the largest since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020.

8 states planning to ban the sale of gas-powered cars

At least eight states are planning to ban the sale of new gas-powered cars in the next decade - and others are considering joining them. Only zero-emission vehicles can be sold in participating states beginning from the 2035 model year, according to the Advanced Clean Cars II legislation. The rule, which was first adopted by California , means that automakers and dealerships would be banned from selling new gas cars in these states from that point onwards. Americans will not be forced to take their gas-powered cars off the road, however, and will still be able to buy used and secondhand gas vehicles. These states have gone further than the latest federal legislation announced in 2024, where the Biden administration released new rules to gradually phase out gas cars by 2032. The new federal legislation requires automakers to reduce the tailpipe emissions of new vehicles by around 50 percent from model year 2026 to 2032. In order to achieve this, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is targeting 35 percent to 56 percent of vehicles needing to be EVs by 2032, and 13 percent to 36 percent needing to be plug-in hybrids by that date. It was initially proposed that two thirds of all cars sold by 2030 would need to be EVs, but the brakes were put on that plan last week, giving a concession to carmakers and giving them more ways to comply. But carmakers will eventually stop making full gas-powered successors to the beloved muscle cars of the 1960s and 1970s under the new edict. For the time being though, Dodge announced earlier this month that the 2024 Charger will be available as a gas-powered muscle car as well as a new all-electric vehicle. According to personal finance site Money , California was the first state to adopt the Advanced Clean Cars II rule, which will put a complete ban to new sales of gas-powered cars by 2035. Plans in the state, which is run by governor Gavin Newsom , specify that 35 percent of all new car sales will need to be zero-emission by 2026, rising to 68 percent by 2030. Rhode Island was the most recent state to join the list of states pledging to ban the sale of gas-powered cars, joining Maryland , Massachusetts , New Jersey , New York, Oregon and Washington. According to the site, the District of Columbia has also made the commitment. Other states have adopted versions of the legislation, but not yet pledged to ban gas-powered cars entirely by that date. For example, Delaware and Colorado last year finalized rules that would require 82 percent of new cars to be zero-emissions vehicles in 2032, but officials have not adopted 2035 bans. New Mexico , meanwhile, announced in July that it will set annual targets for the sale of zero-emission vehicles and may adopt parts of the Advanced Clean Cars II legislation. But it has not yet endorsed the 2035 ban. As states come out with new plans to ban the sale of gas-powered cars after a certain point, the idea is to pressure automakers to speed up their production of electric and hybrid vehicles. According to Kelley Blue Book, EVs made up 7.6 percent of new car sales in 2023. Although this is up from 3.2 percent in 2021, there is a clear disparity across the country as to who is switching to electric cars. Data earlier this year revealed how Americans in some areas are buying more than 10 times as many electric vehicles than in others. The West Coast - and particularly California - continued to dominate the market last year, according to figures from market research firm S&P Global Mobility. But other places, including the so-called 'Motor City' Detroit - the nation's auto capital - have barely any residents buying electric cars. However some major carmakers are ramping up production of electric cars. General Motors, for example, expects to have completed a full transition to electric vehicle sales by 2035. In San Jose, almost 40 percent of new car registrations last year were electric - the most of any major metro area. In Detroit, however, just 3 percent of registrations were for EVs.

Futuristic flying car designed to launch from your driveway reaching 10,000ft & 290mph is set for release THIS YEAR

A FLYING car designed to launch from your driveway is set to be released this year. The high-tech eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) is tipped as the 'personal aircraft of the future'. The boffins at aerospace startup AltoVolo have engineered Sigma to reach speeds of 290mph. Designed for point-to-point travel, the Sigma was created to sack off the hassle of public transport. Drivers will simply step inside and push a button, and within moments they will be hovering over the neighbourhood, ready to cruise above the traffic. The patent-pending tilting jet propulsion system combines electric battery power for takeoff and landing with a liquid fuel engine for longer distances. Wrapped in a sleek 4.8-metre-wide airframe and weighing just 980kg, the Sigma has a cruising speed of 220 miles per hour. The hybrid power system allows it to fly up to 510 miles on a single trip, or 260 miles in electric-only mode. It can hover in place for 15 minutes and carry a payload of up to 270kg – enough for three passengers and luggage. Its maximum flight ceiling is 10,000 feet, and at takeoff, it emits just 65 to 70 decibels of noise at 100 metres – quieter than a lawnmower – making it suitable for use in residential areas. In emergencies, the aircraft can maintain flight even if one of its jet units fails. And if things go wrong, there's a ballistic parachute system that can deploy from as low as 50 feet, a rare and reassuring feature for an aircraft this size. Lewis Hamilton sent 'flying' after hitting huge bump as Ferrari endure Monaco Grand Prix nightmare The Sigma's flight systems have been reviewed and validated by Dr. Richard E. Brown of Sophrodyne Aerospace, while its simulations have been powered by engineering software from Ansys – the same high-performance tools used by Formula 1 racing teams. AltoVolo has already completed the first successful flight of a scale prototype and is now fast-tracking development of a full-scale demonstrator, with autonomous flight systems developed by Embention. The company plans to open a waitlist this July for early reservations of Sigma. This comes after the prototype for the AirCar was revealed, two years after an early version featured on Amazon 's The Grand Tour. Watching the hi-tech motor take off and land during the Eurocrash episode, stunned host Jeremy Clarkson said: "Very rarely am I lost for words, but I'm lost for words." Now AirCar has revealed what the production vehicle will look likely after debuting a more road-ready prototype. "The AirCar fulfils a lifelong dream to bring the freedom of flight into the hands of everyday people," said AirCar boss Stefan Klein, of KleinVision. "With the launch of our production prototype, we are one step closer to transforming how the world moves. "Merging the road and the sky into a new dimension of personal mobility." Test versions of the flying car have already clocked up more than 170 flight hours. They've been spread across an impressive 500 take-offs and landings. AirCar boasts that its flying vehicle can turn from a car to an aircraft "in less than two minutes". During the Grand Tour episode, Clarkson noted that the car was capable of 120mph flight at an altitude of 8,000 feet. And AirCar now says that its motor has been upgraded with a new 280-horsepower engine. "We're not just witnessing the future of transportation — we're engineering it," said AirCar co-founder Anton Zajac. Klein first began working on flying car concepts in the 1980s, but his AirCar prototype didn't take flight until October 2020. Since then, the AirCar has reportedly made hundreds of flights – including between different airports. 5 5 5
