Liverpool closing in on new winger as agreement struck
Liverpool are now one step closer to signing their new winger after agreeing a deal for their midfielder. With the departure of Luis Diaz there is a spot to be filled in the Liverpool squad. Currently, the Reds have just Cody Gakpo who is a natural left-winger in the squad. LFC x adidas Shop the goalkeeper range today LFC x adidas Shop the new adidas range today! Sure, Rio Ngumoha has burst onto the scene in pre-season and he can be an option for the role. However, he is only 16-years-old, Liverpool will need to manage him carefully in order to make sure his long-term career is not put into jeopardy. Ngumoha has shown he will be capable of coming up against senior defenders but can he do that week in, week out? That's something that is completely unfair to expect from a player of his age. That's why it would make sense to bring in a player who can be another option on the left-wing and take that load off of Ngumoha in the absence of Diaz. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range Who may be the best player for that role? The answer is simple. It's Malick Fofana. Liverpool have been heavily linked with the winger this summer and the 20-year-old seems like the perfect option. His directness, speed and one vs one ability makes him pretty much tailor-made for Arne Slot's style of play. But what makes him even more suited for what the Reds are looking for is his versatility. Fofana has predominantly played on the left-wing but he's not just a left-winger. In fact, he's comfortable with both feet and has played a lot of minutes on the right-wing too, meaning he could potentially be an option in that position as well. On top of that, he's played as a false nine, too, giving Slot yet another option, and ensuring that with his arrival Ngumoha would still be able to breakthrough but there would be no pressure on the young teenager to be playing regularly. Liverpool are now a step closer to getting their man. They have struck an agreement with Lyon for the sale of Tyler Morton according to a recent report. That means there is a good working rapport between the two sides. Liverpool's agreement for the sale of Morton undoubtedly increases the likelihood of Lyon sitting down and doing business with the Reds and being more open to the sale of Fofana. Liverpool like to do this kind of business, too. Just take a look at this summer. They negotiated the transfer of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong with Bayer Leverkusen, before selling them Jarell Quansah. In the summer fo 2023 after they signed Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig, they agreed to loan Fabio Carvalho to the German side. So this is not a far fetched opinion, there is definitely more legs to this Fofana story and the deal has moved one step closer.

'An uneasy sense of panic among Everton fans'
There is an uneasy sense of panic already starting to spread across Everton fans. Many stayed up until the small hours in the UK to watch their side take on West Ham in the second round of the Premier League Summer Series but now they face not only being shattered in work, but also the fear this side is not equipped for the new season. It appears David Moyes agrees. He used his press conference after the 2-1 defeat to send a clear message to the owners. After all, the manager has already admitted this is the biggest rebuild of a squad he's had in his career. "I've never had one of these times," said Moyes. "In the past, I have had to sign a lot of players, but I've never had to do so many in one window." Everton have had 12 players through the exit door and, with under three weeks to go until the first Premier League game at Leeds United, they are light in almost all positions on the pitch. Moyes and the recruitment team have been in for targets but a lack of European football to offer is proving problematic. That is not to mention a PSR hangover from the previous ownership that means while the Toffees are within the regulations, they do not have much room to throw about huge sums of money. A clearly concerned Moyes added: "We're just beginning to think, my goodness, we're just not getting enough over the line." That quote alone is likely to do little to calm supporters' fears.

Ajax snatch late draw with Monaco
Ajax left it late to claim a 2-2 draw in their final pre-season friendly with Taylor 29', Traoré 87'; Biereth 34', Minamino 65' Kenneth Taylor opened the scoring for the hosts shortly before the half-hour mark by slotting in after a neat-one two with Davy Klaassen in the penalty area. Mika Biereth drew Les Monégasques level just five minutes later in a similar position after Caio Henrique teed him up with a mazy dribble to the byline. They finally took the lead midway through the second half when Takumi Minamino met Jordan Teze's cross after he had dispossessed Mika Godts. But the last word belonged to John Heitinga's side, who saw Bertrand Traoré equalise by converting Owen Wijndal's cutback from the lefthand side.
