Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood continued his record of being undefeated in major finals after he helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru clinch their first Indian Premier League trophy on Sunday night. He took 1 wicket in the final against Punjab Kings but his contribution throughout the season for the franchise was immense with the Aussie taking 22 wickets from 12 matches, finishing 3rd in the Purple Cap race.
He has won all the finals he has played including for the Sydney Sixers, the Australian national cricket team as well as the Chennai Super Kings.

T20 WC 2021 final: Pitted against New Zealand, he took 3/16 in four overs, not allowing Kiwis to score massive as they could score just a competitive 172/4, powered by Kane Williamson's 85. His wicket tally included scalps of Daryl Mitchell, Kane and Glenn Phillips. Aussies chased down the total with Mitchell Marsh and David Warner hitting fifties.
World Cup 2023 final: Hazlewood delivered a solid spell of 2/60 in 10 overs, which included wickets of Ravindra Jadeja and Suryakumar Yadav. A rampaging India slumped to 240 all-out which was chased down courtesy a Travis Head masterclass in front of a packed Narendra Modi stadium.

Meanwhile, Mallya, while sharing the story of picking Kohli for RCB, said, "I handpicked players who could make RCB a powerhouse. My biggest pride was spotting Virat Kohli, a youngster from the Under-19 World Cup team. My inner instinct told me he was special, and I bid for him. Getting Rahul Dravid as our icon player was a no-brainer—he was Bangalore's pride. We also brought in global stars like Jacques Kallis, Anil Kumble, and Zaheer Khan. I wanted a mix of local heroes and international flair. My dream was to bring the IPL trophy to Bangalore, and I built the team with that goal," Mallya revealed on the podcast with Raj Shamani. "Shortly before the actual selection process, they were playing the U-19 World Cup, and I was very impressed with him. So, I picked him, and it's wonderful, 18 years later, he is still there. He was a young kid at that time when I got him, but you know, full of energy, great talent, and you know, one of the greatest Indian cricketers ever," Mallya added.

Reuters Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal has maintained that while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was unaware of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) victory celebration on Wednesday that later turned deadly, it will be conducting an investigation and will plan steps to ensure such a tragedy does not occur in the future. The victorious RCB team celebrated its maiden IPL title at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, their home ground in Bengaluru, on Wednesday – a day after their six-run victory over Punjab Kings in the final in Ahmedabad. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The celebration, however, quickly turned tragic as a stampede broke out outside the 32,000-capacity stadium, where a massive crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of Virat Kohli, captain Rajat Patidar and other members of the title-winning team, leaving 11 dead and 47 injured. 'We have taken note and will see that such incidents never happen again. We had no knowledge of any victory parade or any celebrations taking place in Bengaluru. We had no idea who organised it and how so many fans came there. We will look into the matter,' Dhumal told news agency Asian News International. BCCI secretary Saikia says Bengaluru stampede an 'eye-opener' BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia echoed Dhumal's views, adding that while the board has no control over a franchise's celebrations, the stampede at Chinnaswamy certainly was an 'eye-opener' and should serve as a lesson for the Royal Challengers along with every other franchise in the IPL. 'This is eye-opener and we have to think about what we should do in such situations. There will be a winner every year and there will be a celebration in their home city. So we have to learn a lesson so it doesn't happen in the future. At this moment, the BCCI has no control over private celebrations of a franchise,' Saikia told The Indian Express. 'Yesterday (Tuesday), we had 1,32,000 people at the Narendra Modi Stadium. We took care of every minor detail about safety and crowd management, and there was not a single incident even though all the stands were full. There was proper policing and control. Something went terribly wrong today in Bengaluru, but the BCCI has no role to play,' he added. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD After offering condolences over the tragic incident, RCB announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the victims, which is also the amount announced by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. RCB's victory celebrations was also supposed to include an open-top bus parade from the Vidhana Soudha to the Chinnaswamy Stadium, which would have covered a distance of a kilometre. Bengaluru Police, however, denied permission for the parade but allowed the felicitation event at the Chinnaswamy to go ahead. The Siddaramaiah government has since suspended the Bengaluru Police Commissioner and other top police officials in the aftermath of the tragic incident and has also ordered an investigation, the report of which is expected to be ready in a couple of weeks' time.

On the day, the players had first been felicitated by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha, before travelling to the Chinnaswamy. However, visuals have emerged showing that the RCB players, including Virat Kohli, were heavily mobbed by fans as they aimed to leave Vidhana Soudha, and not even police could do much about it. The felicitation ceremony at Vidhana Soudha had been abruptly interrupted by a burst of rain in Bengaluru. The players and government officials had to be escorted away by police from the place. Soon after, amidst news of the mass stampede outside the Chinnaswamy, the players appeared in the stadium, lifting the cup. However, visuals from fans have emerged from the time when the players attempted to leave Vidhana Soudha. Despite the presence of a number of policemen, they seemingly could not stop the overflow of people as the players attempted to make their way through. Meanwhile, ahead of leaving for the England tour, the Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir on Thursday expressed his condolences to families who lost their members in the stampede near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and said that he "was never a believer in roadshows." The incident occurred when thousands of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of their favourite players ahead of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL victory celebrations on Wednesday. "I was never a believer in roadshows. I had the same statement to make even after winning in 2007; we should never have roadshows. I think the lives of people are far more important than this, and I will continue to say that. Maybe in the future we should try not to hold roadshows, instead we can do it in the stadium. It's very tragic what happened yesterday, and my heart goes out to the families of those who lost their lives," Gambhir said during India's pre-departure press conference on Thursday. "All I can say is, we need to be responsible. Every life matters. If we are not ready to hold a road show, we should not do that. You cannot at any point of time lose 11 people," he added. Eleven people were killed and dozens injured in a stampede outside Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy stadium as a huge crowd of nearly 3 lakh people had gathered to witness the victory celebration of RCB for winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday. The Karnataka Police have also filed an FIR against the Karnataka Cricket Board Administrative Committee, RCB, among others, in connection with the stampede incident.
