Wallabies great Will Genia announces retirement at 37
The 37-year-old will finish his career as the seventh most capped Wallaby of all time, playing his last Test in 2019 before moving to Japan and becoming a stalwart for the Kintetsu Liners.
Across his storied career, he also played for Queensland Reds and Melbourne Rebels, and Stade Francais in France.
"Thank you to the teams, my teammates, coaches, teachers, friends and all the wonderful people in the game who helped me, guided me, shaped me, included me, put up with me and made me better," Genia said on Instagram.
"Thank you to the fans for making the game what it is.
"Finally, thank you rugby for all the joy. It was always the game and then everything else."
A former Wallabies captain, Genia was a respected figure and tributes were led by his long-time Reds and Wallabies halves partner Quade Cooper.
"What a ride my brother. It's been a pleasure and grateful to have done it with you," said Cooper.
A host of others also wished him well including fellow scrum-half Nic White, who called Genia "one of the greats".
Fallen star Israel Folau said: "Legend bro. What a career."

Michael Ennis and Warren Smith have both declared that Jye Gray must remain as the Rabbitohs' starting fullback over Latrell Mitchell - not only for the rest of this season but for 2026 as well. Gray was superb again on Thursday night as Souths thrashed the Dragons 40-0. The diminutive fullback made a staggering 353 running metres from 31 carries, scoring a try and breaking three tackles. It was just 17 metres shy of the all-time record for most run metres in a single game (370) - set by Joey Manu last season. The Rabbitohs have now won seven out of 14 games when Gray has started at fullback in 2025. With Mitchell in the No.1 jersey, the Bunnies are just 2-5 this year - albeit against some higher-ranked opposition. Mitchell missed five weeks with a quad injury between Rounds 18 and 22, and played left centre when he made his return against the Titans in Round 23. But his return only lasted one game, and he's missed the last two weeks with a pinched nerve in his back. All up he's only played 11 out of a possible 23 games so far this year. Gray has been much more durable, playing 17 games at either fullback, five-eighth or off the bench. The Bunnies have the bye in Round 26 before a clash with the Roosters in the final round of the regular season. Coach Wayne Bennett is hopeful of having Mitchell back for one last game before their season ends, but he'll have to make a tricky call as to what position he plays. He had a try and another try tonight. I think Gray stays at fullback and Latrell goes back to left centre for sure." Johnston's record with Mitchell at left centre is much better than without, and there were a number of instances on Thursday night when Tallis Duncan (a second-rower playing centre) went himself instead of trying to set up Johnston.

The 'Fox NFL Sunday' crew will look a little different this season after legendary Dallas Cowboys coach and 2020 Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee Jimmy Johnson announced his retirement last March. Johnson, 82, joined Fox Sports as an analyst in 1994 after leaving the Cowboys. He spent two seasons as an analyst before returning to the NFL to be head coach of the Miami Dolphins for four seasons. Once he retired from coaching, he decided to return to Fox. 'I had been thinking about it for the last four or five years, but I made the difficult decision to retire from Fox,' Johnson told Colin Cowherd. 'I'm going to miss it and I'm going to miss all of the guys. I'll see them occasionally, but it had been a great run starting back 31 years ago.' Fox announced on Friday that Johnson will be replaced by former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. After making several guest appearances on 'Fox NFL Sunday,' Gronkowski will officially join the panel in a full-time capacity. The five-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro selection made his on-air debut after his initial retirement in 2018 on 'Fox NFL Thursday' and appeared in Fox programming throughout the 2019 season. The rest of the panel includes host Curt Menefee, Hall of Famers Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long and Michael Strahan, along with NFL insider Jay Glazer.
