Singaporean cyclist killed after hitting pothole and being run over by trailer
Kulai district police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said the department received a report of the collision, involving the cyclist and a hanvan-type trailer, at around 9.45am.
He said investigations revealed that the 42-year-old cyclist, who was riding with three others, had struck a pothole and fallen onto the road.
"At the time of the incident, the 41-year-old local trailer driver, who was on his way to Singapore to deliver gravels, was unable to avoid the victim and ran over him," he said in a statement today.
The victim, who was trapped under the trailer, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The trailer driver was unharmed.
"The cyclist's body has been sent to Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (for reckless or dangerous driving)," he added.

Three Singaporean men charged over living on the earnings of prostitution

In raids conducted against the syndicate on July 30, the police seized more than $610,000 worth of assets, including two luxury cars and 18 luxury watches. Desmond Yee, 45, Angus Tan Chen Jie, 30, and Chua Yi Hao, 36, were each handed one charge under the Women's Charter of living in part on the earnings of a woman's prostitution. The three Singaporean men allegedly did so between July 4 and 30. There was a gag order issued on the woman's identity. A police prosecutor asked for all three to be remanded at Central Police Division, with permission to take them out for investigations. Their cases will be heard again on Aug 8. If convicted, they could each be jailed for up to seven years and fined up to $100,000. They are among eight men and 20 women, aged between 21 and 61, who were arrested for their suspected involvement in vice-related offences. In a July 31 statement, the police said the raids on July 30 took place around Jalan Layang Layang in the Toh Tuck area, Pasir Panjang Road, Boon Lay Avenue, Craig Road in Tanjong Pagar, Jurong West Street 71, Beach Road, Tai Seng Avenue, Bencoolen Street, Kim Yam Road in River Valley, Onan Road, Orchard Road, and Jalan Kemaman off Balestier Road. Other items seized included cash, funds in bank accounts, two mobile phones, laptops and vice-related paraphernalia. Over 50 luxury vehicles seized during JPJ operation
KUALA LUMPUR: A Rolls-Royce worth RM3mil was among 53 luxury vehicles seized during a three-day enforcement operation by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) around the Klang Valley. The crackdown, codenamed "Ops Luxury 2.0", was conducted by Kuala Lumpur JPJ based on intelligence gathering and public tip-offs. JPJ senior Enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said various offences were detected during the operation, including expired road tax, lack of valid insurance, expired or non-existent driving licences, and the display of unregistered number plates. "The operation was carried out under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and related regulations," he told reporters on Friday (Aug 1). Initial investigations revealed that three of the seized high-end vehicles were being driven by foreigners without valid road tax or insurance coverage. "These vehicles were rented, while some were owned by companies where the individuals were employed. "One of the foreign drivers was also found using a fake international driving permit, allegedly purchased in Dubai for RM5,000. "Among the other vehicles seized were a Lamborghini, a BMW i8, and an Aston Martin. Muhammad Kifli said some of these vehicles had reportedly not renewed their road tax since 2022. He said that there are currently more than 1,000 luxury vehicles nationwide flagged by JPJ for not having valid road tax or insurance. He stressed that JPJ would not practise selective enforcement and would continue taking firm action regardless of vehicle type or status. "We will not compromise with anyone who fails to comply with traffic regulations," he said.
