Football fans rank Barcelona's Camp Nou the ultimate stadium to visit globally

A poll of 2,000 fans has crowned the Camp Nou as the most sought-after venue outside the UK to watch a match, while the Bernabéu came a close second
Barcelona's Camp Nou has been crowned the stadium footy fans are most eager to visit, beating their fierce rivals Real Madrid to yet another title.

A survey of 2,000 football enthusiasts named Barca's ground, which boasts a capacity of over 99,000, as the most desirable venue outside the UK to watch a match, while the Bernabéu came in second place.

The San Siro ranked third, reigning supreme in Italy, as the Milan clubs beat out rivals Juventus - whose 41,000+ seater stadium came 16th in the top 20 list. It comes after Marcus Rashford's Barcelona fortunes change again after 'biggest humiliation' on debut.

Jack Grealish 'opens talks' with Man City's Premier League rivals over huge transfer.
Interestingly, 35% of footy fans have a bucket list of grounds they dream of visiting, with 18% of these having as many as five earmarked to tick off one day.
On the home front, Liverpool fans had something else to cheer after winning the Premier League this season, with Anfield ranking fourth - the highest of all English venues.
The research was commissioned by OLBG ahead of the new football seasons kicking off across Europe, which also plotted the top 10 grounds into an interactive map for fans.

Jake Ashton, football editor for the brand, said: " Football stadiums are becoming more impressive, and across the globe they offer very different experiences. It's great to see the two Spanish giants go head-to-head again, with Barcelona this time pipping Real Madrid to the top spot.
"The variety and pull for fans to travel and see the beautiful game played out in different grounds looks as strong as ever, based on the number of pitches on people's bucket lists.
"With Anfield making the top four, it also shows the UK isn't being left behind when it comes to iconic stadiums in world football."

It's not just Liverpool's home the supporters want to visit domestically - Wembley came in sixth, Manchester United's Old Trafford ranked seventh, and their City rivals just six miles away at the Etihad finished ninth. Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, which opened in 2006 and holds approximately 60,000 supporters, rounded off the top 10.
Away from Europe, the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro - home to both CR Flamengo and Fluminense FC and considered a national landmark in Brazil - came in 12th.

Staying in South America, La Bombonera - home of the iconic yellow and blue of Boca Juniors in Argentina, and the last club Diego Maradona played for before retirement - came 20th in the table.
When asked about the most important factors in creating the world's best football stadiums, excellent views of the pitch (5%) and comfortable seating (50%) topped the list. Another 46% said it was all about atmosphere and crowd noise.
When fans were asked to rank grounds purely on their understanding of matchday atmosphere, Anfield came out on top, followed by the Camp Nou and the Santiago Bernabéu.

Half of those surveyed credited the atmosphere in these venues to the fervour of the local supporters, whilst others pointed to the standard of football (47%) and packed crowds (45%) as major factors.
More than a third (38%) of fans questioned, via OnePoll, also confessed to supporting a club beyond the UK, with 85% of those declaring it's an aspiration to eventually witness a match at their preferred stadium.
Jake Ashton from OLBG commented: "When it comes to football stadiums, the design, location and the team playing there are all key to their popularity. But a ground is nothing, it seems, without the fans who flock there week in, week out.
"At stadiums like Anfield here in the UK, and others across Europe and South America, that passion is plain to see - even for those who haven't experienced it first-hand."

Barcelona 'take emergency financial action to register Marcus Rashford' in time for new LaLiga season - with Man United loan star 'not eligible' to play

Barcelona 's board have reportedly agreed to take drastic emergency action in a bid to register their summer signings in time for the start of the new LaLiga campaign, which starts in just three days. Marcus Rashford, who secured his exit from Manchester United by joining the Catalan giants on loan last month, is one of two new signings currently ineligible to play for Barcelona during the 2025-26 season, along with goalkeeper Joan Garcia. As the Spanish champions have been overspending on their wage bill, which is restricted by LaLiga in accordance to each club's revenue, Barcelona are unable to register any new players. In an effort to tackle overspending in other sporting departments - and thus ease the salary situation - Barcelona's executives have put their own personal wealth at risk as part of a bank guarantee worth €7million (£6m, $8.2m), according to The Athletic. The Catalans also took the drastic action in December 2023 for the same reason. Like Rashford and Garcia, returning goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny and defender Gerard Martin, who will now be part of the first team rather than reserves, risk sitting on the sidelines until the winter transfer window opens in January. According to Barcelona sources, there is still an expectation around the club that all players will be registered. The Spanish giants are also waiting to be informed by La Liga whether they can take advantage of Marc-Andre ter Stegen's back injury to register a new player, with the goalkeeper set to be out for approximately three to five months. However, it is believed Rashford would not benefit from this decision, with Barcelona reportedly keen to register Garcia, who joined in June, in place of Ter Stegen ahead of the former Manchester United exile.

Joe Gomez returns to Liverpool training ahead of Friday's Premier League opener

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has returned to training ahead of Friday's Premier League opener at home to Bournemouth in a timely boost for head coach Arne Slot. The 28-year-old, the club's longest-serving current player, returned home from the tour of the Far East early with an Achilles injury and was subsequently sidelined for three weeks. But he was pictured with the rest of his team-mates on Wednesday as preparations ramp up for the defending champions' season opener at Anfield. His absence had left Slot with just two senior centre-backs in Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate and questions had been asked as to whether the Reds boss had left himself light in that area after allowing Jarell Quansah to join Bayer Leverkusen. However, moves are progressing for Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi and Parma's 18-year-old Giovanni Leoni, which would bring better balance to the squad.

'Standout' Stephenson set for Tannadice return

Jim Goodwin is confident of securing a deal to bring Liverpool's Luca Stephenson back to Dundee United and says it "shouldn't be an issue" to free up a loan space for the 21-year-old shone during a season-long loan at Tannadice last term, making 34 appearances and scoring three times."Luca was one of our standout performers last season and won the young player of the year award. I have made my feelings known to everybody about my thoughts on Luca," said manager Goodwin."We are still talking with Liverpool. It is not quite finalised yet, but I am really hopeful and quietly confident that we will get some positive news on that and get it over the line."United currently have six loan players, which is the maximum number permitted under SPFL rules."We are at that point at the moment so we need to tidy one or two bits up on an admin front but it shouldn't be an issue," added Goodwin, who is reportedly set to convert, external Finnish Dario Naamo's loan move into a permanent United boss added: "A lot of the loans have been set up in a way that there is the option to buy at the end of the loan. If we need to speed that process up in order to free up a loan place then we are well within our rights to do that."Danish midfielder Julius Eskesen this week became United's 12th recruit of the summer window, arriving on a two-year deal from Norwegian side said: "Really pleased to get Julius done, it is the type of player that we are just missing at the moment in the midfield, just one that can tie it all together."We have got guys in there who are really comfortable on the ball but Julius will give us that something a little bit different."He has a really good range of passing, plays forward, can see things that maybe sometimes other players can't, so hopefully we will get to see him at the weekend."
