Kevin Olsen returns to Florida Gators as basketball strategy and analytics director
Kevin Olsen is returning to Gainesville for his second stint with the Gators, serving as the director of basketball strategy and analytics and coming back after two strong seasons as an assistant coach at San Francisco.
Olsen helped USF take down Saint Mary's, beat Oregon State on the road and win postseason games over Washington State and Utah Valley. Under his watch, multiple players earned first-team All-WCC honors and young talent developed into instant contributors.
In 2023-24, the Dons also knocked off Minnesota and DePaul while racking up more all-conference honors. Simply put, Olsen knows how to win.
Olsen was part of Golden's very first Florida staff back in 2022-23, serving as video coordinator. That year, the Gators earned a postseason berth. Now he's back with more experience.
It's a smart move for the Orange and Blue. Olsen already knows Golden's system, understands what it takes to succeed in Gainesville, and has proven he can help build a program without cutting corners.
Olsen's familiarity should be a plus for a Florida team trying to stand on top of the SEC pecking order.
The Gators just got a little bit better–and a little bit more like the program Golden has been building since the first day he walked through the door.

Iowa football patiently awaiting injury return of key defensive cog
Iowa football is in the midst of its second week of fall camp. On Wednesday, Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz caught up with longtime Hawkeye play-by-play voice Gary Dolphin to update how camp is going. Ferentz revealed that Iowa's defensive depth up front has been tested early in camp. "Up front, Jeremiah Pittman's been out. Unfortunately he's coming off a knee repair, so he's still probably a week or two away from going, but it's given other guys an opportunity to get in there and work some. "Obviously, Aaron Graves on one side's pretty solid and then you've got guys like Will Hubert's really done a good job growing, developing. Bryce Hawthorne, young man from South Dakota State's really been impressive. Luke Gaffney. So, we'll have candidates. It's going to be interesting to see how it all develops and we'll get Jeremiah back at some point. I think at the end of the day, that group's going to be fine," Ferentz said. Pittman, a 6-foot-2, 285-pound graduate defensive lineman, was listed as one of Iowa's two starting defensive tackles to begin the spring opposite senior Aaron Graves. Pittman played in all 13 games last season, registering 17 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. The Palatine, Ill., product from St. Viator High School has notched 27 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one pass breakup and one fumble recovery in his Hawkeye career thus far. Pittman has played in 26 games in his Iowa career and was a three-star signee per 247Sports in the 2021 class. Nebraska volleyball ranked No. 1 in AVCA preseason poll
The first poll of the 2025 collegiate volleyball season has been released, and the Cornhuskers are on top. Nebraska ranks No. 1 in the country in the AVCA/TARAFLEX Division I women's volleyball preseason poll. The Huskers received 40 of the 61 first-place votes while No. 2 Penn State had the other 21 votes. Pittsburgh ranks No. 3, with Louisville No. 4 and Texas rounding out the top five. The last time the Huskers were ranked as a preseason No. 1 was in 2022. Nebraska was last ranked No. 1 in the AVCA Poll on Nov. 27, 2023. Nebraska finished 33-3 last season, ending the year in the NCAA semifinals. Now, the team is entering a new era following the retirement of John Cook, with head coach Dani Busboom Kelly at the helm. For the Big Ten this season, the Huskers rank No. 1 in the preseason rankings. Three Nebraska volleyball players were named to an award watch list late last month. Andi Jackson, Harper Murray, and Bergen Reilly were named to the AVCA Player of the Year watch list. Nebraska will begin the 2025 season on Friday, August 22, when the Huskers host No. 3 Pittsburgh at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Steelers training camp fight breaks out after massive hit on rookie RB Kaleb Johnson
Esezi Otomewo decked Kaleb Johnson on a run. Team is only in spiders and the OL especially took swung at him. Lots of jawing back and forth. Steelers tempers were high at training camp, as fists flew between the offensive and defensive lines. According to PennLive's Nick Farabaugh, DT Esezi Otomewo delivered a huge hit following a run by rookie RB Kaleb Johnson during a team drill on Wednesday — despite players wearing lighter spider pads at practice. The offensive line didn't take the overaggressive behavior lying down, leading to a physical altercation over the massive hit — in which OT Troy Fautanu was spotted taking a swing at Otomewo. With the Steelers' preseason opener just around the corner and nearly 30 days until the Week 1 regular-season matchup against the Jets, it's no wonder the offensive line took exception to the hit — especially as injuries continue to pile up at training camp, including rookie QB Will Howard's preseason-ending hand fracture. Hopefully these fiery altercations result in a better game-day performance — which fans will get a first glimpse of when the Steelers face off against the Jaguars in the preseason opener on August 9 at 7:00 PM EST.
