Punjab PA calls for national unity
He was addressing a ceremony held at the Punjab Assembly to observe Youm-e-Tashakur (Day of Gratitude), commemorating Pakistan's success over India.
"Pakistan desires peace and values dialogue," the Speaker said, "but if anyone harbours adventurist intentions, we will leave no stone unturned in our retaliation." He declared that the entire nation stands united in defence of the country's sovereignty.
"I thank Almighty Allah, and today the nation's head is held high with pride. We can say with confidence that we will not hesitate to sacrifice our lives for the protection of every inch of Pakistan," he added.
Malik Ahmad Khan emphasised that the entire political spectrum in the country is united in support of the armed forces.
"Every move made for political gain will be foiled. No one will be allowed to twist the facts, especially if false flag operations like Pulwama or Pahalgam are repeated," he cautioned.
Touching upon key geopolitical concerns, the Speaker said Pakistan is ready to discuss matters like the Indus Water Treaty and Article 370-A of the Indian constitution.
"It is not surprising if the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty is linked to war. Pakistan has a rightful claim to Sindh's waters, which were not even cut off during times of war," he stated.
He further remarked that Pakistan has borne the brunt of terrorism more than most countries, with the loss of over 90,000 lives.
"This sacrifice cannot be overlooked or taken lightly," he asserted.
Recalling the military confrontation with India, Speaker Khan said Pakistan's swift response, including the downing of six Indian fighter jets, had sent a clear message.
"Even today, voices within India question what Prime Minister Modi achieved through that adventure," he noted.
"Facial expressions of commandos on both sides and the speeches of both Prime Ministers Shehbaz Sharif and Narendra Modi tell their own story," he said, hinting at a stark contrast in morale and public confidence.
The ceremony was attended by cabinet members, members of the provincial assembly, and media representatives. President of the Punjab Assembly Press Gallery, Khawaja Naseer, and Secretary Adnan Sheikh were also present.

DG ISPR dismisses reports of Field Marshal Munir's 'apology' remarks
Military spokesperson Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry on Thursday refuted media reports attributing apology remarks to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir. Speaking to journalists in Islamabad, the DG ISPR said that journalist Sohail Warraich's article was based on an event held in Brussels, where hundreds of people took pictures with the field marshal but no interview was given by the Army Chief. He clarified that there was no mention of PTI or any apology at the event, adding that it was the journalist's own work for personal gain and publicity. DG ISPR further said the senior journalist had shown irresponsibility for personal gain and a publicity stunt, as the field marshal gave no interview during his Brussels visit. However, he reiterated that the perpetrators of the May 9 riots would have to face the law. To a question of a legal action against the media organization for relaying misleading reports, the DG ISPR noted, "We have said it explicitly that the institutions should show responsibility and avoid reporting inappropriate information." Pakistan is a country that has a potential to change the fate of the region, which is why it is attacked frequently, the ISPR DG asserted, adding the youth should understand the legacy and history of their ideological state. Ahmed Chaudhry said that the Indian designs of discrediting Pak Army through terrorist proxies and other facilitators have been foiled by Pak Army's befitting response. They were wrong in believing that they could defeat Pakistan through their multi-billion military might. On the ground, Pakistan defeated both India and its proxies - Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan -simultaneously. The DG ISPR further highlighted that the decision taken by all political parties in 2014 to stamp out terrorism from Pakistan has not been fully implemented till date. He pointed out that whenever illegal Afghans involved in crimes were expelled, some political and criminal elements within the country start creating fuss. He termed implementation on 14 points of the National Action Plan pivotal. The military spokesperson said the army, police and law enforcement agencies are bridging the governance gap with their blood on a daily basis, adding, "Pakistani youth are our asset."

China eyes agricultural, mining cooperation with Pakistan, foreign minister says
BEIJING: China is willing to cooperate with Pakistan in industry, agriculture and mining, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Thursday, according to a readout of the meeting released by Wang's ministry. Beijing would continue to support Pakistan in safeguarding its national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and combating terrorism, Wang told Dar, adding that China would continue to give priority to Pakistan in its regional diplomacy. Both countries should join hands to safeguard the multilateral trading system and oppose unilateral bullying, and upgrade the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, he said. Wang, on a five-day tour of South Asia, has visited India and Afghanistan, mending and consolidating ties with China's neighbours to the south days before a leaders' summit in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, a 10-nation Eurasian security and political grouping whose members include China, Russia, India, Pakistan, and Iran. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to China - his first visit in seven years - to attend the summit. At a press briefing on Thursday, Wang also welcomed Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to attend both the summit and activities to mark the formal surrender of Japan at the end of World War Two, which will feature a massive military parade in Beijing. Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to attend the parade in the Chinese capital on September 3. During Thursday's meeting with Dar, Wang again urged Pakistan to 'effectively safeguard the safety of Chinese personnel, projects and organisations in Pakistan'. Over the years China has poured billions of dollars into infrastructure projects in Pakistan under the Belt and Road Initiative. But security concerns have mounted, with Chinese workers repeatedly targeted in what Beijing has called terrorist attacks in the South Asian nation. 'China appreciates Pakistan's unremitting efforts and great sacrifices made in combating terrorism,' Wang said, according to a Chinese ministry statement.

India, Russia agree to boost trade ties after foreign ministers meet in Moscow
MOSCOW: India and Russia agreed to boost trade ties on Thursday as their foreign ministers met in Moscow, giving little indication that U.S. President Donald Trump's hefty tariffs on India for buying Russian oil would disrupt their relations. Indian goods face additional U.S. tariffs of up to 50%, among the highest imposed by Washington, due to New Delhi's increased purchases of Russian oil. Western countries boycotting Russian crude say India's purchases are helping to fund Moscow's war in Ukraine. But NewDelhi says its purchases are purely commercial transactions, and accuses the U.S. and European Union of double standards, noting that they continue significant trade with Moscow themselves. 'We have good results in cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector, in the supply of Russian oil to the Indian market. And we have a mutual interest in implementing joint projects for the extraction of energy resources, including in the Russian Federation - in the Far East and on the Arctic shelf,' Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a joint news conference with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. Russia was able to divert its exports of oil, a significant source of state revenue, away from Europe and mainly to China and India after the West imposed sanctions on Moscow over its conflict in Ukraine. India and China are the biggest buyers of Russia's oil. Russian embassy officials in New Delhi said on Wednesday that Russia expected to continue supplying oil to India despitepressure from the United States, adding that Moscow hoped trilateral talks with India and China would soon take place.
