Domestic season 2025-26: PCB introduces three-tier departmental cricket structure
Over 40 departments from the length and breadth of the country have been divided into three tiers – Grade-I, II and III with one First-class, one List-A, one three-day and one two-day matches competition slated to take place across the season.
Earlier, there were only two tiers but to make the departmental cricket more competitive and relegation promotion oriented, Grade-III will be introduced in this season, where the teams will compete in a two-day matches competition in March and April 2026.
Teams for the Grade-III tournament have been determined based on points table standings in the 2024-25 President's Trophy Grade-II tournament. The top two teams in Grade-III will qualify for the next season's Grade-II, while the bottom two teams of the Grade-II will be relegated to the third tier.
A total of 12 teams have qualified for the President's Trophy Grade-II based on their points in the previous iteration of the tournament, while they will be joined by the two relegated teams from the Grade-I competition to form the 14-team tournament.
The G-II teams include Ahmed Glass, Ghani Institute, JDW Sugar Mills, Kingsmen, MIT Solutions, PAF, PHA Rawalpindi, Port Qasim, Railways, Sardar Group, Vital Tea, Wing 999 Sports, HEC (relegated) and Eshaal Associates (relegated).
The 14-team President's Trophy Grade-II comprising of three-day matches is slated to take place from March to May 2026, where winner will have the opportunity to go one step ahead and qualify for the first-class and List-A departmental tournament for the next season. In the next season the PCB intends to add a 50-over competition for Grade-II teams as well.
The first departmental tournament in the upcoming domestic season is the 50-over President's Cup which is set to take place right after the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in November and December. The tournament will consist of 31 List-A matches.
The participating teams are Ghani Glass, Khan Research Laboratories, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, Pakistan Television, Sahir Associates, State Bank of Pakistan, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, and Water and Power Development Authority.
Right after the one-day tournament, the same eight departments will compete in the 29-match first-class competition – President's Trophy, which will conclude in January 2026. The bottom two teams will be relegated paving the way for the winners of the Grade-II tournament hence creating a highly competitive top to bottom departmental cricket structure.
Apart from the men's domestic game, some of the departments are also expected to assemble their women's teams in the coming months in order to strengthen the women's domestic structure as well. The details will be shared in due course.
Director Domestic Cricket Operations, Abdullah Khurram Niazi said, 'The departmental cricket has become the bedrock of our domestic cricket season for the third year straight.
The PCB is proud and highly appreciates the efforts of more than 40 departments in helping Pakistan cricket grow by investing in talent and taking part in the domestic cricket season.
We have incentivised the departmental cricket by dividing it into three tiers and creating a highly competitive structure for all the teams, which will surely lead to enhancing the quality of our domestic cricket.'
Niazi said, 'I eagerly look forward to seeing more than 400 players deservingly taking part in our domestic season representing various departments as we strive for the betterment and growth of cricket on the domestic front.'

This move is expected to streamline the process and provide more convenience to the public. By incorporating these advancements, NADRA is making its system more transparent, user-friendly and accessible, he assured. The spokesperson also highlighted how these technological improvements are aimed at enhancing the overall experience for citizens, making it simpler to manage and track family-related information. Additionally, the inclusion of women's names in the FRC will have a positive impact on legal and property-related matters, such as succession certificates and inheritance issues, he said, adding, this development will make it easier for women to claim their rightful share and navigate property disputes, further strengthening their legal standing. In response to a question, he explained that previously, the Family Registration Certificate (FRC) was primarily used as a reference for family composition and had no legal weight. However, under the new regulations, providing false or misleading information on an FRC can result in criminal charges. This change is designed to prevent fraudulent claims and strengthen the integrity of identity data in the national registry, he added. Another significant update is the requirement for applicants to verify their entire family tree when applying for an FRC, he said, adding, now through mobile app they can also get the facility to apply for any corrections. Individuals will now be shown a complete list of their family members as recorded in NADRA's database. If the information is accurate, the applicant will confirm it through a signed declaration, known as an 'Affidavit Bayan-e-Halfi,' ensuring that all individuals listed are validated by the applicant, he added. Addressing a question, he added that NADRA is actively working to assist people living in slums or without a stable home. To ensure that no one is left behind, mobile registration vans are being deployed to these areas, making it easier for people to get registered and access vital services. He also assured that NADRA is fully committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their living situation has access to essential registration services, adding, the mobile vans are part of a broader initiative to bridge gaps in accessibility, bringing NADRA' s services directly to marginalized and remote communities. This proactive approach aims to ensure inclusivity and equal opportunities for all citizens, he added.

Dar was paid double fee during HBL PSL9
The PCB audit report has raised concerns over umpire Aleem Dar receiving double the standard match fee during PSL 9, as he was paid $4,000 per match instead of the set $2,000. According to details in the report, Aleem Dar received an additional payment of approximately 3.85 million PKR under match fee expenditures. The note sheet labeled "PCB-DCOP-24-1848 – Payments for Match Officials, PSL 9, 2024" reveals that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed several umpires and match referees for PSL 9 fixtures. As per PCB regulations, the match fee for an umpire on the ICC International Panel is $2,000 per match. However, Aleem Dar was paid $4,000 per match, which was double the official rate. This increased payment was approved by previous Chairman of the Management Committee. The audit report states that this resulted in an additional financial burden of $14,000 on the PCB, 15 million PKR were allocated from the Chairman's contingency fund. In total, Aleem Dar received $28,000 as match official fees during PSL 9, in line with the ICC Elite Panel rate of $4,000 per match. However, at the time of PSL 9, Aleem Dar was not part of the ICC Elite Panel. He was on the PCB's International Panel, meaning his designated fee should have been $2,000 per match. This led to an excess payment of $14,000 (around 3.85 million PKR) which, according to the audit, was beyond his entitlement. The auditors concluded that this excessive payment not only gave undue benefit to the recipient but also caused financial loss to the PCB and the franchises. In response, the PCB management explained that Aleem Dar, being part of the PCB International Panel, had requested to be paid at the ICC Elite Panel rate, and that this request was approved by the Chairman at the time. The report states that this response indicates the management acknowledged the audit's observation.

ACC president confirms schedule for Asia Cup 2025

A total of 19 matches will be played, with the final scheduled for 28 September. The tournament will follow the T20 format. Pakistan and India are expected to be in the same group, which could lead to three possible encounters—one in the group stage, one in the Super Four, and potentially a third in the final. Despite earlier rumours of India possibly skipping the event, the BCCI had denied such claims. A promotional poster featuring only India and Sri Lanka had recently raised concerns about Pakistan's participation. However, based on existing agreements, India and Pakistan are scheduled to meet only in ICC or ACC tournaments held at neutral venues, such as the UAE.
