CAPE VINCENT, N.Y. (WWTI) – For over 25 years, the Cape Vincent Arts Council (CVAC) has offered arts opportunities to residents and visitors. With two new funds, the Dr. William James Grant Fund and the Cape Vincent Arts Council Endowment Fund, to support the CVAC annual arts programs and to plan for their future.
CVAC's 2024 Piano Competition Winners
'The funds ensure that we can continue providing exciting art and music programs for the community with the confidence that our future is financially secure,' said Liz Brennan, president of the CVAC. 'We are extremely grateful to the donors who made the funds possible and hope their confidence in the Arts Council and its mission will inspire others to invest in our future.'
CVAC says the Dr. William James Grant Fund was created by the Dr. William James Grant Trust with $57,000. The restricted fund supports the Thousand Islands International Piano Competition for Young People. Founded by Dr. Grant in 2004 with CVAC, the competition invites talented young pianists worldwide to Cape Vincent. It features three rounds of performances, focusing on works by composers like Chopin and J. S. Bach.
This year marks the 22nd event, scheduled for September 5-7 at Maple Grove Estate, Cape Vincent. The competition is free for the public and takes place outdoors by the St. Lawrence River. Dr. Grant, who loved the piano and Chopin, wanted to inspire young pianists and promote classical music in the region.

The Cape Vincent Arts Council Endowment Fund was created with a $25,000 grant from The Lily Fund. Additionally, the Community Foundation and The Lily Fund, in partnership with the CVAC, each pledged an additional $15,000 as a matching challenge to raise more funds. Donors can contribute to the CVAC's endowment at the Foundation, with matching funds available up to $30,000.
According to CVAC, this endowment fund gives them long-term financial stability and helps manage unexpected economic issues. Donations will provide a continuous source of income to support the CVAC's mission in perpetuity.
'The Cape Vincent Arts Council is also grateful for the generous support of the Northern New York Community Foundation,' said Liz Brennan. 'It boosts our organization's reputation, attracting new donors and partners. Its support is an endorsement that the CVAC is secure in its mission for generations to come. As donors contribute to these funds, we can grow our arts programs, positively impacting the health of our community and the vibrancy of local businesses.'

Keanu Reeves Sets Off Engagement Talk With Girlfriend Alexandra Grant

John Wick star Keanu Reeves and his girlfriend Alexandra Grant set off engagement talk. The buzz ignited because of the couple's red carpet appearance in Los Angeles. A ring on Grant's finger got people talking. According to People, Reeves, 60, showed up at the world premiere of the movie From the World of John Wick: Ballerina on June 3 holding hands with long-time girlfriend, Grant. The couple posed for many pictures on the red carpet, and the photos from Getty Images show her with rings on both of her hands. People described Grant as an "accomplished visual artist." According to Elle, Grant showed up to the premiere with "a noticeable diamond ring" on her left ring finger," sparking "speculation that the pair might have quietly gotten engaged." It's not the first time that Grant has been spotted wearing a ring; she flashed one in April when she was photographed getting close with Reeves, Page Six reported. Reeves gushed about Grant in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2024 during another red carpet appearance, so the couple has been going strong for some time. "We got up and it was very exciting and just kind of nerve-wracking in the car, getting out. It's really special to be side by side," he told ET. He said of seeing Grant in her dress then, "The heart just opens." Reeves and Grant met at a dinner party in 2009, but they weren't connected romantically for another 10 years, according to Page Six. According to Page Six, the couple were dating for "years" before the public figured it out. Fans enjoyed the June 3 photos. "Love to see Keanu smiling :) and they seem so natural together. Well wishes :)," wrote one fan on X. "They are so cute together. Glad to see Keanu has someone in his life. Benicio del Toro Swarmed by 5 TSA Agents at Airport Because of the Content of a Script in His Carry-on

Benicio del Toro had a dramatic run-in with TSA for an unexpected — but very understandable — reason. The actor was traveling from Boston to Los Angeles, when he was asked by a security worker at the airport to inspect the contents of his carry-on, he told host Seth Meyers on the Wednesday, June 4, episode of Late Night. His bag contained the script for his new film, Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme, printed in an extra large font for easy reading. "The opening scene is [called] 'Interior Airplane: Bomb'," del Toro reveals to a big laugh from the crowd, but it gets worse. "The second scene is 'Interior Cockpit: Eject the Pilot' and the third scene is 'Crash.'" The star explained to the TSA worker that it was a film script, but that didn't satisfy the employee, who held up a finger telling him to wait before leaving. "Five TSA guys come over and they hover around the script, and they're looking at it and looking at it," he recalls." And then finally the supervisor showed up and he walked in and he looked at me, and I think he recognized me maybe from Sicario or Traffic, and he just sat there and looked at it and they let me go." While the hold up was a minor inconvenience, del Toro has nothing but praise for the TSA worker who stopped him. "I give that guy a thumbs up because he was paying attention." "You gotta give that guy credit because let's say he let you go and something terrible happened," says Meyers, who plays out the scenario: "He told me it was a movie! . . . And you believed him?!" "It was a checklist!" explains del Toro completing the scene. In The Phoenician Scheme, del Toro plays Anatole "Zsa-Zsa" Korda, a wealthy businessman, who has a surprising number of airplane related fiascos in his past. Del Toro is far from the first star to experience an airport security snafus. Hugh Grant recently shared a less lighthearted run-in. In April, the actor called out an immigration officer at London's Heathrow Airport for allegedly acting 'intrusive, insulting and creepy" during an encounter with his children. In a post on X, Grant claimed that official asked his kids if he and his wife Anna Eberstein were their parents. Just came through Heathrow with wife and children. We all have the same last name (Grant) on our passports. Immigration officer engages my children in chit chat then whispers to them 'Are these your Mum and Dad?' . Intrusive, insulting and creepy. — Hugh Grant (@HackedOffHugh) April 4, 2025 'Just came through Heathrow with wife and children,' Grant's post read. 'We all have the same last name (Grant) on our passports. Immigration officer engages my children in chit chat then whispers to them 'Are these your Mum and Dad?' Intrusive, insulting and creepy.' Grant shares daughter Tabitha Xiao, 13, son Felix Chang, 11, with actress Tinglan Hong, he is also dad to son John Mungo, 12, and daughters Lulu Danger, 9, and Blue, 6, with Eberstein, 46. Channing Tatum revealed in an August 2024 interview that he often gets delayed not for any suspected breach but because one of his famous movie quotes is said to him "every single time" he goes through security: "My name is Jeff." 'It's weird what happens in pop culture like that, you know? It's such a small moment in the movie,' he says of the 2014 comedy 22 Jump Street. 'I remember we did a table read and it wasn't even that funny at the table read. It was like whatever. And all of a sudden, man.' Similarly Winona Ryder said she gets a repeat request at TSA: to recite "Beetlejuice" three times like her character in the classic movie and it's recent reboot. 'I have missed flights because the TSA people wouldn't let me through unless I said it three times,' Ryder shared last August. Read the original article on People
