Tanco inks supplemental deal with MBINS for Port Dickson Free Zone project

The Star6 days ago
KUALA LUMPUR: Tanco Holdings Bhd , through its indirect subsidiary Tanco Land Sdn Bhd, has signed a supplemental agreement with Menteri Besar Incorporation Negeri Sembilan (MBINS).
The agreement builds on the earlier joint venture (JV) arrangement between the parties for the proposed development of the Port Dickson Free Zone (PDFZ) project, including the incorporation of their JV vehicle, PDFZ Sdn Bhd, and recent media reports on MBINS's acquisition of the first 121.41 hectares of land.
"This agreement further strengthens and clarifies the JV relationship and the land acquisition process for the development of the strategically important PDFZ project,' Tanco said in a statement today.
Under the agreement, MBINS's direct purchase of the initial 121.41 hectares of land in Mukim Pasir Panjang, Port Dickson, for RM88.5 million, is being undertaken on behalf of the JV, with the financing supported by advances from Tanco.
"This mutually beneficial arrangement reflects strong public-private collaboration and marks a key milestone in accelerating the project's implementation. It also provides a clear framework for future growth.
"MBINS is actively negotiating the acquisition of a second 121.41-hectare parcel, with a commitment to secure the remaining land for the project and to appoint the JV as the exclusive developer of the entire PDFZ,' Tanco added.
Tanco's group managing director, Datuk Seri Andrew Tan Jun Suan, said the agreement significantly strengthens the group's strategic partnership with the Negeri Sembilan state government.
"With clear roles and a streamlined acquisition process, we have laid the foundation to move forward with the first phase of the 574.65-hectare PDFZ project, which aligns with national priorities under the National Physical Plan (NPP).
"As a key contributor to the Malaysian Vision Valley 2.0 initiative, this project will also complement our Smart AI Container Port (MIDPORT), reinforcing Negeri Sembilan's position as a strategic hub for logistics, manufacturing, and high-value industries,' he added. - Bernama

The future is now: AI steps up as cybersecurity's sharpest ally

At a time when cyber threats evolve faster than systems can respond, the answer to staying ahead may lie not in reaction, but in intelligent prediction. That was the central message at AIDEX & CyberCon 2025, a full-day summit that brought together more than 300 participants to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the way organisations protect, adapt, and grow in an increasingly digitised world. Held at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur, the event was jointly organised by Quandatics Omnitech Sdn. Bhd. and Q Armour Sdn. Bhd., subsidiaries of regional AI and data solutions group Quandatics (M) Sdn. Bhd. Themed "Redefining AI, Digital Intelligence and Cyber Resilience," the summit became a shared space for technologists, policymakers, and business leaders to converge on the future of intelligent defence and digital resilience. The guest list reflected just how timely the conversation was. Among the officials who attended were Datuk Wilson Ugak Anak Kumbong, deputy minister of the Ministry of Digital, and Datuk Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab FASc, chief executive officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia. Their presence underscored the event's strategic importance, especially in the context of Malaysia's ongoing digital transformation efforts. Through a mix of keynote addresses, panel discussions, and live showcases, the summit painted a clear picture of how AI is no longer just a buzzword—it's the backbone of future-ready infrastructure. And it's not just about guarding against digital intrusions. As sectors from finance to manufacturing embrace digitalisation, AI is becoming central to how organisations operate, adapt, and plan for the future. Present-day Realities "Today's threats require more than traditional responses," said Ken Law, CEO of Q Armour, adding: "They demand intelligent, autonomous systems that act in real time, without waiting for human input." Q Armour's showcase delved into exactly that—demonstrating how machine learning and human expertise can work in tandem to identify, assess, and neutralise threats before they cause damage. With real-time threat intelligence and AI-driven risk assessments on display, the session highlighted how adaptive cybersecurity is moving beyond passive defence to proactive strategy. Meanwhile, Omnitech took the lead on conversations around smart digitalisation. The company demonstrated how combining AI with cloud platforms and data analytics can help enterprises become more agile and insight-driven—an increasingly important trait as businesses navigate unpredictable landscapes. Said Dylan Tan, CEO of Omnitech: "Innovation is not just about new tools. It's also about building trust, speed and foresight into how businesses operate." Live case studies offered glimpses into how these technologies are already being implemented by regional enterprises. From unifying user experiences to boosting operational efficiency, the potential of AI-powered systems came across not as distant possibilities, but as present-day realities. Beyond the formal sessions, attendees engaged in a hands-on technology gallery that showcased real-world use cases and demonstrations. The day wrapped up with networking opportunities and a lucky draw—small touches that helped translate complex discussions into human connections. If the strong turnout and active participation were any indication, there's a growing appetite across industries for solutions that sit at the crossroads of AI, cybersecurity and digital strategy. AIDEX & CyberCon 2025 may have lasted just one day, but its conversations are likely to echo well into the future.
