The Congress on Monday said the Telangana government is set to introduce a legislation to protect the 4.2 lakh gig workers in the state, and asserted that 'Shramik Nyay' continues to be one of its most central visions.Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh pointed out that Telangana is the third state to legislate on this matter, following Rajasthan and Karnataka.In each case, it is only Congress governments that have secured justice and fair working conditions for lakhs of gig workers, he said in a post on X."The Congress government in Telangana is set to introduce legislation to protect and support the 4.2 lakh gig workers in the state," Ramesh said.Highlighting the key provisions of the bill, he said it entails mandatory registration of gig workers by aggregators and a tripartite board comprising workers, aggregators, and the government to monitor gig worker welfare.The bill also entails setting up a welfare fund for gig workers to be administered by the tripartite board, he said."The bill promotes both economic and social justice in a meaningful manner," Ramesh said."Shramik Nyay continues to be one of the most central visions of the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi," he said.The Congress general secretary also shared on X a draft of the bill.

BJP alleges INDI Bloc promoting ‘Namazwad', undermining constitutional values
New Delhi, June 30 (UNI) The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Opposition INDI Alliance, alleging that its parties like the RJD and Samajwadi party were attempting to promote what he termed as 'Namazwad'—a religiously motivated deviation from constitutional principles—and accused them of undermining the legacy of BR Ambedkar. Addressing a press briefing, Senior BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed that there is 'no mention of the concept of Waqf in the Quran, attributing it to interpretations developed by clerics. He further said the Quran encourages voluntary giving, not institutional religious control, and warned that opposition parties are attempting to 'convert Samajwad (socialism) into Namazwad.' 'If their government comes—which is not going to happen—they will throw Baba Saheb Ambedkar's Constitution in the dustbin and implement Sharia law,' the BJP Rajya Sabha MPP said. 'They are bowing before mullahs and maulavis to pursue hardline vote bank politics. Be it the Congress, the RJD, or the Samajwadi Party—they are all driven by a thirst for votes from fundamentalist sections,' he alleged. Trivedi also revisited the Shah Bano case of 1985, accusing the Congress of having previously placed personal law above constitutional supremacy by enacting legislation that effectively overruled a Supreme Court judgment in favour of Muslim women's rights. He suggested that such precedents demonstrate the Congress's historical willingness to appease conservative religious sentiments at the expense of legal uniformity. Reinforcing his party's stance, Trivedi said the BJP remains committed to preserving the values enshrined in the Constitution, adding that voters must choose between 'a government that respects Ambedkar's vision' and one that 'seeks to impose religious law through the backdoor.' 'Only once in Indian history has a party crossed 400 seats, and that was the Congress in 1985. What did they do? They used that majority to push Sharia over the Constitution,' the BJP leader said. Ahead of the assembly elections in Bihar, the BJP MP remarked, 'I want to say to the people of Bihar that there are two options. The INDI alliance, which will try to implement Sharia through the back door if it comes to power, and on the other side, our government, which will remain committed to protecting Baba Saheb's constitution.'

The BJP addressed a press conference in New Delhi, referring to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav's recent comments on the Waqf Amendment Act. The BJP leader termed RJD and Congress as 'Namazwadi' parties and stated that the people of Bihar have two options at present. 'These socialists don't even care about minorities. By bowing down before the Mullahs and Maulavis, they want to convert 'Samajwad' into 'Namazwad'...'Pakke Namazwadi hai, RJD ho ya Congress. I want to say to people of Bihar that there are two options', Sudhanshu Trivedi said. Furthermore, Sudhanshu Trivedi asked whether the INDIA bloc wants to implement 'Sharia Law' in Bihar and mentioned that they will try to implement the 'Sharia Law' in the state once they come to power. 'I want to ask the INDI alliance, are you thinking of implementing Sharia law in Bihar, which is bigger than Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey and ISIS?. Three people lost their lives in the Gundicha temple stampede on Sunday; meanwhile, several were left injured. The Odisha government have ordered a probe into the matter and has announced financial help of Rs 25 lakh for the victims of the stampede. Surjewala suggested that every state should set up a State Crowd Safety Task Force, out of which 50 per cent should be contributed by the Union Government for its formation. 'I have suggested today that we must learn lessons from the 3 tragedies and take steps in order to ensure no such tragedy ever takes place. The first step is setting up a State Crowd Safety Task Force. Every state must have an SCSTF, and the government of India must contribute 50% of the cost of setting up such a task force', the Congress leader said. He mentioned that the task force must comprise police, home guards, the disaster management authority, local bodies, and organisers. The Congress leader informed that he has raised the issue in front of the Karnataka CM and suggested that the Union Government must take note following the Puri Rath Yatra tragedy. 'These are some of the issues that I proposed to raise with the Karnataka CM and the government of Karnataka to put in place. The government of India, PM Modi, Union HM Amit Shah should now take note post the tragedy of the Puri Rath Yatra and put in place these protocols and commit to finances for every state for a crowd management state-level task force', he said.
