Episode 8
Episode 8 of Dear Hongrang begins with Jae-yi heading to confront Hong-rang. But she recalls their conversation on his birthday. He had been quite sad that he never had anyone. She wonders who he is.
Instead, she pleads with Yeol-guk to let her go with Mu-jin and live a normal life. She gets his approval and an angry Hong-rang confronts Mu-jin for taking her away. Mu-jin threatens him by mentioning his slave name, Rodent Scrap. However, Mu-jin promises to keep it a secret as long as Jae-yi leaves with him.
His aide still doesn't understand why he doesn't expose Hong-rang and take back the guild. Mu-jin explains that Jae-yi kept him going when life got hard. He cannot lose her. He also owes Hong-rang for saving his life.
As for Jae-yi, she confides in one of the sleuths about Hong-rang. She also reveals that she was relieved to learn they are not related, even though it means the real Hong-rang is still lost. She cannot forgive herself and that is why she needs to leave.
Onto the guild politics, the merchants gossip that Yeol-guk has lost all power as Yeon-ui elects Hong-rang as guildmaster.
The Grand Prince suddenly shows up and marvels at how perfect Hong-rang looks. It seems that he wants Hong-rang but Yeol-guk warns him. Yeol-guk also warns him of a royal investigation into the missing kids and the Snow Man, courtesy of the Songs. The Grand Prince decides to paint to restore the yin and yang balance and enlists Yeol-guk's help. The prince also recalls how he had created a yin-yang masterpiece long ago which was lost.
It cuts to Hong-rang getting a copy of the test results on Song Su-nam. His skin is burnt and has traces of limestone, alum and arsenic. The assassins search for the source of the toxic powders and it leads them to the caves where the Painter's kids were kept. Flashbacks show a young In-hoe and Hong-rang being bathed in toxic substances to turn their skin pale. The Painter then tattoos their bodies in the cave.
Meanwhile, Mu-jin gifts Jae-yi two Java sparrows. The birds mate for life and he hopes they can similarly be each other's lifelines. She agrees and Hong-rang sadly watches them.
Surprisingly, Bang-suk spins a tale to Yeol-guk that Hong-rang is fake. Some of his lies are unwittingly true, such as Hong-rang working with assassins to take over the guild. Bang-suk adds that Hong-rang plans to pin the Snow Man and Su-nam's kidnapping on Yeol-guk. As proof, Bang-suk takes him to an abandoned Min kiln where the kid was burned. Bang-suk found it from the traces on Su-man's clothes.
Seeing how close he is to the truth, Yeol-guk has the Snow Man kill Bang-suk. Turns out, Yeol-guk is in cahoots with the Evil Painter and the Snow Man. He rushes to their hideout, where Du-ryeong is painting with his left hand. Yeol-guk rebukes him for being careless with the kiln. However, Du-ryeong scoffs and claims to be invaluable.
Meanwhile, Hong-rang tracks one of the Painter's men and tortures him. The man takes him to the hideout and Hong-rang kills him. A fight ensues between Hong-rang's assassins and the Painter's men. Yeol-guk is gone by the time Hong-rang fights the Snow Man. The Snow Man is not a ghost but a really tall and pale man. His body is full of tattoos and he is one of the Painter's human canvases. Hong-rang's clothes are torn and Yeol-guk's aide spots tattoos on his back.
As more assassins arrive, the Snow Man runs off. Hong-rang finds Du-ryeong (killed by Yeol-guk). A flashback shows Hong-rang stabbing the Evil Painter on the left side of his chest. But Du-ryeong has no scar. He is not the Evil Painter but a minion who handles the kids.
A disappointed Hong-rang heads home and the cook pleads with him to patch up with Jae-yi before she departs. The next morning, he confesses everything to Jae-yi, about his enslaved past and torture. In return, she confesses that she is in love with him. He begs her not to go with Mu-jin.
Meanwhile, the aide tells Yeol-guk that Hong-rang is an impostor. Yeol-guk would have never allowed the real Hong-rang to be tattooed by the Painter. But both Hong-rang and Jae-yi are missing. Mu-jin sees that the birds are set free. There is a note and he looks angry. At the end of Dear Hongrang Episode 8, Jae-yi and Hong-rang run off on horseback.
The Episode Review
Dear Hongrang Episode 8 answers most of our burning questions, resolves the big Painter mystery and gets ready for the showdown between Hong-rang and the bad guys. Now that the K-drama is in the final stretch, there is no time left to waste, forcing all the characters to reveal their cards. Hong-rang's identity is out in the open, Mu-jin is very likely going to turn to the dark side and Yeol-guk's evil connection is revealed.
Bang-suk spinning his tale, unknowingly guessing the truth was pretty hilarious. But it is strange that all these characters just happen upon the truth at the right time. How is it that Hong-rang suddenly finds the cave and one of the henchmen? How is Bang-suk the only one to find the kiln? Why does Jae-yi take 12 years to find the real Hong-rang's satchel when it was hidden in plain sight? It all is a bit too convenient and has been happening way too frequently for viewers to constantly suspend belief.
By the way, Yeon-ui seems to have taken a backseat which is quite a shame as she has the potential to wreak even more havoc. Unfortunately, it looks like she is going to have to relinquish her spotlight to Yeol-guk and the Evil Painter. Who, by the way, is very likely the Grand Prince. It did seem odd that his demand in the previous episode went unanswered. Seeing the way he fawns over Hong-rang, he most likely wanted him as a canvas in exchange for saving Mu-jin. And like the toxic dad he is, Yeol-guk chose his 'biological' son over his adopted one.

Kohli closes in on long-awaited IPL title

NEW DELHI, June 2 (Reuters) - Virat Kohli's trophy cabinet is chock full of awards from his international career but the batsman can end the long wait to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) title when his Royal Challengers Bengaluru play Punjab Kings in Tuesday's final. The 36-year-old has been with Bengaluru since the inaugural edition of the league in 2008, including nine seasons as captain of a franchise that made the finals in 2009, 2011 and 2016 but lost every time. They have looked a different side altogether under Rajat Patidar this season though, winning all seven away games in the group stage and crushing Punjab in the first qualifier. Veteran Kohli is their leading scorer in the tournament but while Bengaluru have been criticised in the past for ignoring team balance and packing the side with marquee players they have finally clicked as a team this season. "It's a better balanced side, far better balanced side," former Australia player Tom Moody, who has coached Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, told ESPNcricinfo website. "It's not top heavy. There's opportunities for other players to have an impact in the game, whereas previously, you look at RCB and it was always the top three and then you're concerned about what follows that." Bengaluru were reinforced by Josh Hazlewood's return from a shoulder injury ahead of the playoff and he had an immediate impact as they dismantled Punjab for 101 on Thursday. Down but not out, Punjab managed to claw their way into the final at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium after beating Mumbai Indians in Sunday's qualifier. Shreyas Iyer, who captained Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title last year, has led from the front and is Punjab's top scorer this season. He produced a captain's knock of 78 not out to help Punjab chase down a tricky target set by powerhouse Mumbai in the qualifier. "I love big occasions," Iyer said after his match-winning knock. "I say to myself and my colleagues, the bigger the occasion, the calmer you are, and you'll get the best results. "Today I was focusing on my breathing rather than sweating it out." Iyer, with the full backing of coach Ricky Ponting, has instilled a fearlessness in Punjab's approach that has given them hope of winning a first IPL crown.

Good Boy – K-drama Episode 1 Recap & Review

Episode 1 Episode 1 of Good Boy begins with Dong-ju's narration, where we learn that he had been a boxing champion until he wasn't. Cut to the present, we find Dong-ju working in the police force. He has been demoted and is selling his gold medal for cash. Meanwhile, Ji Han-na, the shooting champion, is treated as little more than a model for the police force instead of being involved in active duty. We realize that athletes are discriminated against in the force because they received a free pass instead of joining through the mainstream channels of examinations and training. Dong-ju's former mentor, Ko Man-sik, has been assigned to assist in catching a gang ring. While the operation is underway, Ko Man-sik goes to pee, leaving Dong-ju to keep watch on the street. A sudden explosion alerts the gangsters, who begin to escape. Dong-ju comes face to face with the target, Golden Bunny, but ends up getting hit and knocked unconscious. The operation fails, and both Man-sik and Dong-ju are scolded by the other officers. We then meet one of Dong-ju's former colleagues, Shin Jae-hong, now working as a traffic police officer. Dong-ju also reunites with Han-na, and we find that the two have a past. Dong-ju cheerfully declares that he still likes her. At the same time, another former athlete, Jong-hyeon, approaches Han-na. There's a hint of a romantic history between them. He is later revealed to be a promoted audit officer at the police station. Even though Jong-hyeon is doing the best in terms of career among all the athletes, he is disliked for reporting corrupt officers and seeking promotion. Meanwhile, Man-sik leaves Dong-ju alone on a stakeout. Later that night, Dong-ju is hit on the butt by a car. He injures himself when the unknown driver traps his hand in the window as the car speeds off. When he returns, he finds thieves filling fuel in Man-sik's car and then fleeing with it. A little further down the road, he finds a hit-and-run victim and gets him hospitalized. Later, Dong-ju tries to contact his brother, but there is no response. He shows up at a ceremony honouring his former coach, where we learn that the coach had spread rumours that Dong-ju had won his gold medal through doping. This happened because Dong-ju refused to participate in MMA. It is also hinted that the coach got Dong-ju's brother addicted to drugs, and now his brother is missing. The next day, Dong-ju decides to find the culprit behind the hit-and-run case. He breaks into the audit room and steals a paper from a case file after remembering a report about a smuggled car. It turns out to be the same car that hit him and was involved in the hit-and-run. At the same time, Jong-hyeon, who has been investigating the explosion during the failed undercover police operation, discovers that the hit-and-run victim had reported arson five minutes before the explosion. He shares this information with Man-sik, and they agree that someone inside the force leaked details about the operation. Jong-hyeon also realizes that Dong-ju may be in danger. Dong-ju, acting on a tip, heads to an address where he believes he will find information about the hit-and-run suspect. Meanwhile, Han-na is tasked with returning the victim's personal effects. When she finds out the victim has passed away, she decides to deliver them the next day and takes the belongings home. Suddenly, a group of gangsters tricks her into letting them into her home. They are looking for important documents. As they attack, Han-na pulls out her gun and fires at them. Elsewhere, Dong-ju enters a gangster hideout, ready to fight. At the same time, a group of thugs attacks Jong-hyeon in the middle of the road. They were hired by a police officer who holds a grudge against him. Jae-hong witnesses the attack. All of them fight using their distinct styles: Dong-ju as a boxer, Han-na as a shooter, Jong-hyeon as a fencer, Man-sik as a wrestler, and Jae-hong as a discus throw athlete. He hurls a massive iron sewage cover at a car speeding toward him. The episode ends on this exciting note! The Episode Review The episode opens after a significant part of the characters' lives has passed. The four athletes are now living ordinary lives, dealing with everyday struggles instead of standing out as champions. Most of the episode is spent developing the characters and the plot. We are left piecing together what exactly is happening. But halfway through, the show begins to reveal its flavour with glimmers of hilarious slapstick comedy, brought to life by the individual charm of the cast. The last 20 minutes are a complete shift in tone, with breath-taking camera work and editing. It may feel a bit chaotic, but it turns into a visual carnival of action scenes packed with tension and energy. Although the plot doesn't start as strongly as one might expect, the episode delivers a solid punch by the end. This is thanks to the direction of Shin Na-yeon and some standout performances from the cast. With this, we're left excited to see what more Good Boy has in store.
