CHILDREN got in focus for a fun-filled week at Lyle Kirk and Westburn Church holiday club.

There were 23 children who popped along every morning between 10 and 12noon.
There were crafts, including making binoculars and kaleidoscopes, songs, games and even water pistol fights.
When the Tele popped along youngsters were making sheep biscuits with icing, chocolate drops and marshmallows.
Jonathan said: "We've had crafts, games and water pistol fights.
"We also had three evening events at Lyle Kirk, we had a beetle drive and we had 30 people that night, and there was a movie night and a family barbecue."
Jonathan wanted to thank the volunteers who have helped during the week including two teenage helpers.
The week ended with a joint service at Westburn Church on Sunday.

Greenock Rock Choir returns home on a high after Edinburgh Fringe show

GREENOCK Rock Choir members have returned home on a high after performing at the Edinburgh Fringe. Singers from Inverclyde took to the stage in the country's capital earlier this month to perform at the world-renowned arts festival in front of a packed crowd with some of the members singing at the event for the first time. The choir performed a 45-minute set full of 'smash-hit' songs from across all of the decades, arranged in the Rock Choir's signature style which has been entertaining crowds since 2005. (Image: Rock Choir) Inverclyde 'Rockies' joined nearly 2,400 members from 40 choirs across the UK, including groups from Helensburgh, Houston, Paisley, and Hamilton with this year being the sixth time the Rock Choir have taken to the Edinburgh stage. Rock Choir leader Jen Bonnar said: 'I couldn't be prouder of my choirs - performing at three different venues, including a sold-out show at the Space Triplex, at the Edinburgh Fringe, drawing huge crowds at each and soaking up the city's electric atmosphere. 'With Oasis in town that night, singing Roll With It felt like our own little rock 'n' roll moment.' 'On the coach home, our driver casually mentioned he was a huge Oasis fan - so naturally, the whole choir burst into Roll With It just for him. 'He was grinning from ear to ear, filming the moment on his phone like it was his own private gig. 'It was the perfect end to an incredible day." Edinburgh local who 'despises' Fringe brands festival an 'embarrassment' in tirade

An Edinburgh local has shot out online about the Edinburgh Fringe, calling it an "embarrassment" where tourists have "no respect for locals". They posted an angry video to TikTok, showing a mobbed Edinburgh street packed with tourists amid the capital's busiest time of year. In the caption they included a tirade against Festival season and the crowds it brings to Edinburghers' doorsteps. They said: "Words cannot describe how much I DESPITE this sh**** festival. There's little in the world I hate more than the embarrassment that is the Edinburgh Fringe. Just full of the same unfunny middle class English shows every year. "I could write a book on why this festival needs to be terminated." Fellow capital residents joined ranks in the comments to share their frustration at the Fringe. One commented: "At this point Edinburgh is just a theme park for the English". A miffed parent added: "My daughter has to elbow her way to work from Waverley during August. She booked her own holiday days this year to miss some of it". Another shared: "I do wish BBC would give more coverage to the Edinburgh festival, not the Fringe". However, there were many Edinburgh residents in who disagreed with the hot take and offered alternative points-of-view on the festival. One said: "We live somewhere with the world's largest arts festival on our doorstep. We're so lucky." Another offered: "I stayed in Edinburgh for about 20 years and it's one of the best things about the city. Can't beat a wee sunny afternoon in the Pleasance Courtyard". A third penned: "Disagree and I've lived in Edinburgh during the festival. It's amazing for tourists and culturally important". Others added: "It's an essential tool for people who want to get into the arts and it's a feeder for some of the best British theatre and TV". Adorable photos were shared on Edinburgh Zoo's social media, showing Mina snacking on her treats beside a box reading, "Happy 23rd Birthday, Mina". Visayan warty pigs are native to the Visayan islands - an archipelago in the Philippines - but can only now be found on two of the islands, having become extinct on the other four due to hunting and habitat loss. Warts on the boar's face are part of a defence mechanism, designed to protect them from sharp tusks when fighting occurs. Boars also grow thick, hairy manes which they can raise to increase their size and presence, according to Edinburgh Zoo. The Zoo cares for a group of nine warty pigs, including Mina. A post on the Edinburgh Zoo's Instagram reads: "Happy birthday, Mina! At 23 years old she is currently the oldest recorded Visayan warty pig! "In the wild they typically live to be 15. Mina's age is testament to the great care she receives from our keepers and vets. "Her special birthday cake is made up of sweet potato, blueberries and a peanut 'candle'". Delighted followers commented on the post to with Mina well on her birthday. One commented: "Happiest of birthdays Mina enjoy your special day". Another shared: "Happy birthday, beautiful".
