X Factor star Ray Quinn dashes hopes revealing why Brookside shouldn't return
The actor and singer, 36, who became a household name when he was runner-up in the third series of ITV talent show The X Factor was a child star on the serial drama during its latter years.
Between 2000 and the last ever episode in 2003, Ray was better known as Brookie's Anthony Murray, the son of Marty (Neil Caple), who moved into the fictional cul de sac when Lindsey Corkhill (Claire Sweeney) sold up.
Storylines included being bullied by school mate Imelda Clough (Bellie Clements) – and later attacking her with an iron bar.
The situation escalated when Anthony chased Imelda into some woodland and then accidentally drowned her when she hit her head on a rock.
After being held hostage by a gunman, he confessed everything.
'Brookside set me up for so much, so I can never look back with anything but amazing memories,' Ray told Smooth Pins.
'I loved the show, and it was so iconic and a huge piece of history for Liverpool.'
Despite that, he doesn't think the show's magic could be recaptured. Fans have long hoped for a revival, and were thrilled when Scottish streamer STV Player picked up the series in its entirety in 2023.
The platform also hosts soap operas Take The High Road and Shortland Street, as well as recently adding children's drama Byker Grove.
'I worry whether it would be as good, or whether it could dilute the legacy,' Ray continued.
'Maybe it's best to just enjoy it for what it was.'
This is a sentiment shared by co-star Claire Sweeney, who told Metro last year: 'I don't know if it was a moment in time.'
''I'm proud to be part of it, and proud now to be part of Corrie.'
Ray continued acting following Brookside's axing, appearing in BBC police drama Merseybeat and more recently as terrorist Jonny Baxter in Hollyoaks.
He lost out on winning The X Factor to Leona Lewis, but continued to release music, appear on Dancing On Ice and form a career in musical theatre in the years that followed.

During his time on the now defunct singing competition, he formed a close bond with judge Sharon Osbourne – and has reflected on the recent death of her husband Ozzy, who's funeral will take place in Birmingham today.

'When I flew out to LA to record my album, she reached out and invited me to her house for dinner. I went to their Beverly Hills home that was featured on their reality show The Osbournes, so that was pretty surreal.
'Ozzy was there too, and he was such an amazing guy. My heart goes out to the whole family after his passing. I remember we sat down and had lamb to eat and lots of cups of tea.'
Ray continued: 'The whole family was amazing, and Ozzy was so kind. He asked me about my music and told me to keep going and enjoy every minute.
'It was like sitting with one of my mates' dads. He showed me all of his paintings that he liked to do too. He had a little art studio by the pool, and there were loads on the walls. He was a great artist and a wonderful man.'

More Scots should benefit from Scotland's screen industry, John Swinney says
JOHN Swinney has said more needs to be done to increase the number of Scots benefitting from Scotland's screen industry. The First Minister had invited guests from across Scotland's creative industries to the headquarters of the Edinburgh International Festival on the eve of the capital's festival season. Swinney addressed the audience, where he spoke about the 'immense value' Scotland's creative industries provide and highlighted that the country's screen industry has grown at a scale that 'simply wasn't possible' before the establishment of Screen Scotland. He added that Scotland becoming a hotbed for film and TV shows has led to an explosion in the number of home-grown productions along with new and expanded studios and infrastructure, while creating a 'wide range of skills and educational opportunities'. READ MORE: Labour's governing fiasco shows Scots the urgency of independence, says John Swinney However, a number of people working in a variety of roles in the screen industry have told The National previously that production companies are prioritising crews from London over people in Scotland. The National understands that studio space across Scotland is fully booked for the remainder of the year, but despite a boom in filming in Scotland, Scottish workers in the industry are not given the opportunities to be a part of it. Speaking to The National, Swinney said that the Scottish Government needs to 'make sure' that there is better access to screen infrastructure for Scots, adding that there needs to be more recognition of the 'economic benefits' the sector brings. He said: 'I suppose there's a point about essentially the effects of success that is leading to a congestion and access to screen infrastructure. 'Now what we've got to make sure is that we have enough capacity and it's available in a financially sustainable way to meet the needs of the screen industry in Scotland. 'It's an area where we've got Screen Scotland, who's done a superb job as you heard me saying in the in the auditorium, but, we've also got to look at what might need to be deployed through economic development support and advice through Scottish Enterprise and other organisations to make sure we've got all the capacity that we require. Swinnney added: 'Because if we've got incrementally a growing strength within our screen center we should be realising the economic benefits and advantages of that. 'Of course, our college and university community will be producing talented individuals who can play a part in that, and we've got to make sure that we've got enough capacity and opportunity for that to be the case.' Swinney added that his and his Government's role is to assist artists in any way they can. The First Minister went on to make a plea to those in the industry and to wider society to look at how the arts can be better supported financially as the Government looks to boost funding to £100 million annually in the coming years. 'I'm asking that from crowdfunding to patronage, to philanthropy to local authority support and much more, we all ask ourselves how can we do more to support the arts from the grassroots up?' he said. 'How can we better support emerging artists that don't necessarily fit the current mould? 'And how, in particular, can Scotland's emerging businesses in new sectors become the new generation of patrons of the arts and culture in Scotland? 'How do we incentivise a new guard of custodians and investors in Scotland's creative economy?' Speaking to journalists after his speech, Swinney said he is open to discussions about new legislation to support the cultural sector. He said there is a sense that local authorities 'might not have a particularly explicit statutory duty to support artistic and cultural activity', suggesting this area 'might need to be strengthened'. The First Minister also spoke about how he would be a protector of freedom of speech. 'I also know that freedom of expressing is under greater and greater attack, both at home and abroad,' he said. 'I want to ensure that Scotland, the birthplace of the Enlightenment, remains a country of robust debate and inquiry. 'I firmly believe that art and culture must be able to challenge us, to ask us tough questions, and to force us to look at things from different perspectives. Charity hides a secret from Sarah in Emmerdale as devastating scenes lie ahead
Sarah Sugden's (Katie Hill) journey to parenthood has been a complete roller coaster in Emmerdale, and it's about to hit a sharp downwards turn. After Sarah underwent an emergency hysterectomy it looked like her dreams of becoming a mum were dashed, but Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) came forward with the idea they find a surrogate. That too went south when they learned Sarah's illness meant an agency wouldn't touch her with a barge pole, so Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) magnanimously stepped up to the plate, but without husband Mack's (Lawrence Robb) approval. After some deep discussions and the threat of an ending marriage, Charity and Mack worked things out and the surrogacy plans could continue, and Sarah and Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) got engaged. After Charity passed all the tests, the doctors were able to implant the embryos, and now it's full steam ahead for the baby plans. With everything so blissfully on track, Mack and Charity go for a lovely walk. Disaster strikes when Charity slips and falls, kicking off a huge chain of events. Firstly, she must manage her own anxiety that it might have affected the implantation. She's terrified that a stupid action could put paid to Sarah's dream. Coronation Street fan-favourite falls and bangs his head in devastating scenes
Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) reaches his lowest ebb in upcoming Coronation Street episodes as his previous mistakes catch up with him – and he ends up with a nasty injury. Left responsible for the corner shop in Dev (Jimmi Harkishin)'s absence, Aadi was keen to show that he has inherited his father's flair for business. Sadly, for everyone concerned, he really hasn't. He ended up getting the business into so much debt he was forced to enlist Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) to stage a robbery as part of an insurance scam to try to pay the debts off – only to find the insurance wouldn't pay up because he'd missed a payment. Added to these woes, in an attempt to kick back from the world of business and have some fun, Aadi threw a party – but that went horribly wrong, too. Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) ended up accidentally taking some LSD and wandered off into the night, being tortured by terrifying hallucinations of Joel Deering (Calum Lill), the man who previously abused her. She ended up falling and badly injuring herself. Aadi and Lauren have started a sweet relationship together since then, but this is bound to be less sweet when she finds out the person who spiked her at the party was Aadi – even though it wasn't deliberate. Luckily on the business front at least, Aadi's about-to-be step-mum Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) came up with a plan to help him out financially by creaming off some of her and Dev's wedding fund. In upcoming episodes the wedding day arrives, but as the ceremony is about to begin, Bernie's health takes a turn and she collapses, struggling to breathe. As she's rushed off to hospital and Dev summons everyone to her side, it's clear that this is serious. For Aadi, his world has come crashing down. Fearing that he's partly to blame for Bernie's collapse he knows that without her in his corner it's only a matter of time before Dev finds out that he made a mess of the business.
