The Florida Gaming Control Commission has announced the closure of two gambling facilities in Tavares.
The commission said its agents partnered with the Tavares Police Department last week to shut down Jungle Hut at 324 E. Burleigh Blvd. and Lucky Arcade at 508 S. Duncan Dr.
The commission says the operation resulted in two arrests and the seizures of 125 illegal gambling machines and $62,051.61 in cash.
The Jungle Hut seizes included 71 slot machines, six illegal fish tables and $31,887. One person was charged with one count of possession of slot machines and one count for keeping a gambling house. Lucky Arcade's raid yielded 47 slot machines and one fish table, as well as $30,164.61 cash, according to the commission. One arrest was made on one count of possession of slot machines and one count for keeping a gambling house.
'We are grateful for the collaboration with Chief Coursey and her outstanding team,' Florida Gaming Control Commission acting Executive Director Ross Marshman said in a news release. 'Illegal casinos continue to be a concern in Florida's communities, and we are glad to shut the doors on these two criminal enterprises.'
The commission is reminding the public that Florida law regulates gambling, and slot machines are only permitted in licensed gaming facilities. These include eight pari-mutuel facilities in Miami-Dade and Broward counties and six Seminole Tribe of Florida establishments. Slot machines or any other unauthorized gambling machines at unlicensed facilities are illegal.
Concerns about illegal gambling activities or facilities in Florida may be reported online at FLGaming.gov/File-a-Report, by email at Contact@FLGaming.gov, or by phone at 850-880-3433.

Hamas names ‘Ghost of al-Qassam' as its new leader after Israel wiped out his two predecessors: report

Hamas has reportedly named a veteran terrorist known as the 'Ghost of al-Qassam' as its latest leader in Gaza — after his two predecessors were wiped out by Israel. Ezzedin al-Haddad, who helped plan the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks, was recently handed control of Hamas' Gaza operations, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing multiple sources. He is the group's third leader in just seven months after Israeli eliminated his two predecessors — Oct. 7 mastermind Yahya Sinwar and then last month his brother Mohammed Sinwar who took the reins after him. Haddad, 55, previously oversaw the captivity of Israeli hostages and recruitment for Hamas' fighters. He got his nickname as the 'ghost' of the group's militant wing because of his low profile, according to the sources. Haddad, too, has survived multiple Israeli assassination attempts throughout the war, they added. Advertisement 3 Yahya Sinwar, head of the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip. His body was only retrieved from an underground tunnel beneath a hospital in southern Gaza earlier this week, the Israeli military said. 'Mohammad Sinwar was responsible for the deaths of countless civilians,' the IDF wrote on X. Haddad, who has a $750,000 bounty on his head, is next on Israel's target list, according to to Defense Minister Israel Katz.

One UI 8 beta 2 fixes Samsung's supersized widgets

Joe Maring / Android Authority TL;DR Samsung's first One UI 8 beta allowed larger widgets (4×4) on the home screen, but the feature had inconsistent functionality. The second beta version resolves these issues, making resizing to the full widget size reliable and smooth. One UI 8 may not feel like a big update over One UI 7, but it is a big update for your home screen widgets, quite literally. Samsung lets users adjust the size of their home screen widgets to a maximum of three rows high, but with the first One UI 8 beta, we could adjust these widgets to be four rows high. The change was wonky, though, and not all users could add the big widgets to their home screen. With One UI 8 beta 2, Samsung has thankfully fixed the wonkiness and made the resizing experience smoother. Shortly after we reported on the change spotted in the first One UI 8 beta, many users pointed out that they couldn't reproduce the 4×4 widgets on their home screen. These users were stuck with the 3×4 widgets despite being on the beta. Even on our end, the experience was less than ideal, with the system often not letting us resize the widget to its 4×4 size. One UI 7 widget One UI 8 widget With One UI 8 beta 2 installed on our Galaxy S25 Ultra, we notice that the experience of resizing widgets to their 4×4 size now works properly and reliably, as demonstrated in the video below: One UI 8 beta 2 largely appears to be a bug-fix update, as we couldn't notice many new features. Even the changelog is focused on fixing bugs. We'll keep you updated if we find other new changes. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ .
