Blue Badge major update means they can be used in new places

Motorists with disability parking permits can now use the permits in 25 countries throughout Europe.
The UK Government has announced changes to how UK Blue Badge holders can use their permits during the summer months. Following revised guidance by the Department of Transport, disabled motorists are now able to use their badges in some countries overseas.

The Labour Party update confirmed that drivers with a disability parking permit may find acceptance across more than 25 European nations. The updated rules will benefit approximately 2.8 million UK Blue Badge holders who plan to travel abroad this year.

There are more 235,700 Blue Badge holders in Scotland.

However, France may not recognise non-EU permits.

The DfT stated: "We recommend that you carry any supporting documentation that may be required, such as a doctor's note or a translation of your Blue Badge, especially when travelling to countries with stricter parking rules.", reports Birmingham Live.
It noted that local authorities remain responsible for determining the recognition of UK Blue Badges throughout Spain. Individuals with disabilities may secure, renew, or possess extraordinary driving licences depending on adaptations, restrictions, or additional limitations concerning persons, vehicles, or traffic circumstances that might prove essential in each instance.
Spain states that motorists from other nations using Spanish roads must adhere to the requirements specified in their driving licences. It explains: "Wheelchair users, people with walking difficulty, people with vision impairment, people with mental health issues, and people with learning disabilities."

"The parking card is granted to people for which an impossibility to perform by themselves a number of basic vital tasks has been certified. Please note that parking cards might be granted to people with no driver's license."
Parking allowances differ across each nation, the DfT explains, with details accessible through parking card for people with disabilities in the European Union, and the FIA guide for the disabled traveller: using parking permits, cards and placards in the EU and EEA.

We recently told how more than 235,700 Blue Badge holders in Scotland may not be aware of a little-known travel boost the permit can unlock. People with a disability living in Scotland may be entitled to free bus journeys with the National Entitlement Card.
While eligibility criteria is usually associated with - but not limited to - the level of award for a disability benefit such as Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Adult Disability Payment (ADP), Child Disability Payment (CDP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Attendance Allowance, people with a Blue Badge may also qualify.
Guidance on the Transport Scotland website states you just need your Blue Badge, or your latest V11 vehicle licensing reminder from DVLA or DLA404 from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), when you apply for the National Entitlement Card.

Why Luxury Car Prices Are About to Get Brutal

'It's my personal opinion that this is the best dash cam out there.' Maserati is serious about making its next flagship a manual transmission GT car with a high-powered version of its Nettuno V6, exceeding 621 horses. Is the 2025 Toyota Corolla FX more show than go? We got behind the wheel, and this is our honest review of the dark-trimmed compact sedan. Will This Break The Ice For Bigger Brands? Porsche and Aston Martin have begun raising prices in the United States as hopes of automotive-specific carveouts in trade deals fade, Reuters reports. The price hikes come shortly after a trade deal between the U.S. and the European Union that includes a 15%-tariff on EU-made cars beginning in August—lower than Trump threatened, but much higher than the 2.5% tariff from before President Donald Trump launched his global trade war. On Wednesday, Porsche said it had raised U.S. prices by 2.3% to 3.6% in July, Reuters reported, but said it had no plans to move production to the U.S. Bringing more manufacturing to the U.S. by making imports more expensive has been a primary aim of Trump's tariff policy. Aston Martin said it had begun 'incremental' price increases in June, while issuing a profit warning based on U.S. tariffs and low demand in Asia. No Relief In Sight Source: Kyle Edward 'This is not a storm that will pass,' Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said after the automaker cut its full-year profit target and reported a $462 million hit from tariffs in the first half of 2025. 'We continue to face significant challenges around the world.' Porsche isn't alone. Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche's parent brand Volkswagen all reported losses, issued profit warnings, or discussed raising prices in response to Trump's tariffs, Reuters noted. Even Ford, which claims around 80% of its vehicles are assembled domestically, reported an $800 million tariff penalty in its second-quarter results. European Automakers' Hope Of Relief Fades Source: Mercedes-Benz European automakers had been hoping for tariff reductions specific to the auto industry, but the recent deal has eroded optimism, according to Reuters. Mercedes CEO Ola Källenius told analysts Wednesday that the automaker was assuming tariffs would remain at 15% for the time being. 'For all intents and purposes, that global deal for now is it,' Källenius said, adding that any side deals were 'very uncertain.' The Volkswagen Group last week, however, said it was hoping to negotiate lower U.S. tariffs based on investment commitments. About the Author Stephen Edelstein View Profile

Kimi Antonelli makes Mercedes contract admission as Max Verstappen changes things

Mercedes had hoped to lure Max Verstappen away from Red Bull but now looks set to extend the contracts of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli for the 2026 season and beyond Kimi Antonelli insists he has "never" been worried about his Formula 1 future despite hitting a rough patch in his debut season. The teenager was fast-tracked into the sport by Mercedes and made a strong start, but has endured a nightmare European leg of the campaign up to now. ‌ The 18-year-old has scored points in just one of the last seven races, and the only one of them which was not held in Europe. Even more curiously, that one outlier was his best result in F1 to date, his first podium secured by finishing third at the Canadian Grand Prix in June. ‌ But a combination of mechanical unreliability and struggles to get the best out of a Mercedes car which has regressed with its updates has made life tough for Antonelli. And the young Italian has also admitted that he is suffering from a crisis of confidence as a result. ‌ Antonelli, like team-mate George Russell, is out of contract at the end of this year as it stands. It has been understood for some time, though, that an extension is a mere formality as the Silver Arrows view their young racer as a superstar of the future. And the young man himself gives the air of someone who, despite this rough period, has been completely reassured by team principal Toto Wolff about his place with the team and in the sport. "I've never been worried, to be honest. I know the situation, I know what the team wants, especially looking at the future," he said. "So I think also Toto has been clear recently, so that's obviously good to see. But, I think the team is working well. The line-up is good. Me and George are working well together, and we are trying to work together also as a team to find performance. "So, I think we're doing a pretty good job. And also there's a really good atmosphere in the team. It's always nice to go back to the factory and see how much the team is pushing, not only for this year, but also ahead of next year. ‌ "So, this means above that there's a good dynamic in the team. And yeah, but I'm sure the team knows what's the best for us, especially next year." Russell is also closing in on a new deal, after months of his future being in some doubt. The Brit has starred this year but was still the most likely Mercedes driver of the two to be shown the door if the Silver Arrows had managed to convince Max Verstappen to join them for 2026, which the Dutchman has now confirmed is not going to happen. Not only is he set to secure his future, but Russell is also about to become one of the highest-paid drivers on the F1 grid. It has been reported that he is likely to earn £30million per year after penning fresh terms, far more than the £20m title contenders Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri each earn at McLaren, but still significantly less than the £50m and more each pulled in by Red Bull talisman Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari.

India's Tata Motors to raise 1 billion euros in equity for Iveco deal

NEW DELHI, July 31 (Reuters) - Tata Motors plans to raise about 1 billion euros ($1.14 billion) of equity to repay the loan funding its $4.5 billion offer, opens new tab to buy Iveco's trucks and bus business, the Indian automaker's chief financial officer said on Thursday. Tata ( opens new tab and Iveco ( opens new tab announced an all-cash deal on Wednesday. It will be the biggest ever transaction for the Mumbai-based automaker, which made its last major acquisition in 2008 when it bought Jaguar Land Rover from Ford Motor (F.N), opens new tab for $2.3 billion. Tata Motors finance chief PB Balaji said Morgan Stanley (MS.N), opens new tab and MUFG will underwrite the $4.5 billion bridge loan to secure the deal. The company, he said, will then look at a capital raise of around 1 billion euros along with some term debt "sometime in the next 18 months" to pay down the bridge loan. "Tata Motors has never been stronger in terms of its financial position to take on such a transaction," Balaji said during a media briefing, adding that both Tata and Iveco's businesses are cash-generating. Shares of Tata Motors fell as much as 2.4% on Thursday morning, reflecting concerns over the amount of debt the company will need to take on for the deal. But they recouped some losses, ending the day 0.4% lower in a weak Mumbai market. Tata Motors' trucks and bus business recorded its highest ever profit of over $750 million in the last fiscal year that ended on March 31. And its consolidated automotive business, which includes Jaguar Land Rover and passenger cars, is debt-free. The deal will immediately triple Tata's commercial vehicles revenue, giving it access to Iveco's markets including Europe - where the Italian group competes with Volvo ( opens new tab and Daimler ( opens new tab - as well as Latin America. It will also allow Tata to launch Iveco's products in India and elsewhere. "We can look at some of Iveco's tippers, vans and buses coming into the Indian market. We can also look at the Latin American market, where some of our trucks or small commercial vehicles can go," Tata Executive Director Girish Wagh said. Iveco and Tata's commercial vehicles business will have combined revenues of about 22 billion euros, with half coming from Europe, 35% from India and the remainder from the Americas. Tata has already identified synergies to boost revenues and cut costs, Wagh said, adding there is some overlap in research and development in the areas of powertrain technologies, electrification and connectivity, which can be combined. Wagh added that Tata can also leverage India's "frugal engineering skills" and bring down material costs at Iveco's European factories. Iveco CEO Olof Persson, meanwhile, told an analyst call on Thursday that Tata had committed to maintaining the "industrial footprint and employee communities". Iveco employs around 36,000 people, including 14,000 in Italy.
