Yahoo2 days ago

Naval Station Mayport is celebrating the opening of a new $250 million facility that will support and maintain U.S. Navy ships.
Industry leaders cut the ribbon on the state-of-the-art shipyard addition in a ceremony Monday.
BAE Systems said the ship lift is one of the ten largest ship lifts in the world, and the largest on the western hemisphere.
'It's not anything like dry docks. It's not like anything that's been done before,' Tim Spratto said.

Spratto is the VP General Manager of BAE Systems, the British-based multinational defense company behind the ship lift.
Leaders say the new addition will support work critical to America's national defense and provide massive upgrades to the area's shipyard service. The lift will also be able to provide shipyard services to commercial ships entering the port of Jacksonville.
All this comes as the Trump administration calls for the restoration of the American maritime industry with an April executive order.

Acting Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Jim Kilby, said it's an order his team is taking seriously.
'I'm here to tell you that shipbuilding is the Secretary of the Navy's number one priority,' he said.
Right now, the workforce has more than 650 employees but expects to add about 300 more.

Photos Show British Aircraft Carrier Reaching Indo-Pacific Waters

The British aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales arrived in Indo-Pacific waters after passing through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea, as part of the Royal Navy flagship's deployment. The goal of the eight-month deployment is to reaffirm the United Kingdom's commitment to security in the Mediterranean and Indo-Pacific regions, the Royal Navy said on Tuesday. The Houthis-an Iran-backed armed group in Yemen-halted attacks in the Red Sea following a deal with the United States. Both sides exchanged fire in the crucial waterway from March to early May. The Prince of Wales left its home port in southern England in late April for a mission known as Operation Highmast. This will take the aircraft carrier to the Western Pacific Ocean via the Mediterranean and the Middle East for joint war games with U.K. allies and partners. The naval strike group led by the Prince of Wales completed what the Royal Navy called a safe passage through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea, arriving in the Indian Ocean from the Eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean, marking the next stage of its global deployment. Officially released photos show that the U.K. Carrier Strike Group, which includes multiple British, Canadian, Norwegian, and Spanish naval vessels, completed the transit in late May. A U.S. destroyer, USS Truxtun, was also seen sailing with the strike group in the Red Sea. The presence of the Truxtun complicates any potential Houthi attempts to target non-U. S. ships within the carrier strike group, the specialist outlet The Maritime Executive said. The U.S. destroyer also operated alongside the Prince of Wales in the Mediterranean last month. The Royal Navy did not disclose whether the carrier strike group conducted any operations, including escorting shipping, while in the Red Sea, the specialist outlet Navy Lookout noted. During its transit in the Red Sea, the Prince of Wales launched its F-35B stealth fighter jets, according to photos released by the Royal Navy. These aircraft are designed for air-to-air and air-to-ground combat, as well as intelligence gathering and electronic warfare missions. Before departing Europe, the U.K. Carrier Strike Group conducted a naval exercise with the Italian Carrier Strike Group in the Ionian Sea, south of Italy, the Royal Navy said. The drill involved 21 warships, three submarines, 41 fighter jets, 19 helicopters, and 10 patrol aircraft. U.K. Defense Secretary John Healey said on April 22: "As one of only a few nations capable of leading a deployment of this scale, the Royal Navy is once again demonstrating that U.K. defense is strong, modern, and ready to meet the threats of today and tomorrow." Commodore James Blackmore, commander of the U.K. Carrier Strike Group, said on April 22: "Working closely with partners from across the globe, Operation Highmast will demonstrate credible deterrence and our support to NATO and the rules-based international order." It remains to be seen whether the Prince of Wales will have the opportunity to operate with American aircraft carriers when it reaches the Western Pacific Ocean during its deployment. Zelenskyy dismisses Russian demands, proposes direct Putin talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia's maximalist demands mean there's no point in continuing with lower-level talks aimed at brokering an end to the war. Calling Russia's conditions for peace an "ultimatum," Zelenskyy said that he remains willing to meet directly with President Vladimir Putin. But low level talks such as those that took place in Istanbul on Monday make no sense unless they lead to a meeting of the two leaders, he said. "To continue diplomatic meetings in Istanbul at a level that does not resolve anything further is, in my opinion, meaningless," Zelenskyy told reporters in Kyiv on Wednesday. Zelenskyy is upping the pressure on Putin after a pair of audacious attacks against Russian targets in recent days that represented an embarrassing setback for the Kremlin. U.S. special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg said yesterday that additional sanctions on Russian are "ready to drop," based on his conversation with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. Another prisoner exchange with Russia involving around 500 people is possible over the coming weekend, according to Zelenskyy, who said that Russia was motivated by a desire to avoid further western sanctions. Prisoner exchanges "are going on and should go on, but the Russians are not ready for a ceasefire; at least the delegation level is not ready to resolve this and they believe that this is a matter for the leaders, they told us so themselves," he said. Zelenskyy proposed a ceasefire until a leaders' meeting in a place "of Russia's choice," citing Istanbul, the Vatican, or Switzerland. "If we see that we can continue the dialogue and are ready to take steps towards de-escalation, we will continue the ceasefire with American monitoring and American guarantees of mediation," he said. However, he said a meeting with Putin would also be possible "tomorrow" without such a ceasefire agreement in place. Copyright (C) 2025, Tribune Content Agency, LLC. Avant Technologies and Partner, Ainnova, Finalizing Automated Retinal Camera Prototype Ahead of Full-Scale Development

LAS VEGAS, June 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Avant Technologies, Inc. (OTCQB: AVAI) ("Avant" or the "Company"), and its JV partner, Ainnova Tech, Inc., (Ainnova), a leading healthcare technology company focused on revolutionizing early disease detection using artificial intelligence (AI), today announced the Company is in the final stages of prototyping its proprietary automated retinal camera. Ainnova's new device will offer users a low cost, easier to use camera that captures images automatically and then uploads those images to the Company's Vision AI software platform, which then produces a "risk report" in mere seconds. Vinicio Vargas, Chief Executive Officer at Ainnova and member of the Board of Directors of the joint venture company, Ai-nova Acquisition Corp., said, "The cost of a fundus camera has always been a barrier to entry into in this market, so our low-cost camera, which is a fraction of the cost of currently available cameras on the market, should allow us to not only enter the market, but to capture a large share of the market. "Another significant advantage will be that our camera will be seamlessly packaged together with our Vision AI platform, allowing us to refer more patients in less time and accurately to medical specialists. Also, one of our objectives is to integrate other technologies to this preventive screening, expanding the scope from only diabetic patients to patients who have other risk factors and want to prevent other diseases from a more complete approach." Vision AI is a powerful cutting-edge, AI-driven platform that can quickly and accurately detect the early markers of a host of diseases by applying AI models to examine imaging data from the eye to expedite earlier detection and allow patients to better manage their disease. The diseases that Vision AI can detect, include diabetic retinopathy, other retinopathies, such as glaucoma, macular edema, age-related macular degeneration, and other anomalies, as well as other diseases that do not require retinal images, and instead, use other datapoints that Ainnova has integrated into the software like the detection of cardiovascular disease (CVD), type 2 diabetes, liver fibrosis, and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Currently, Ainnova's Vision AI software works well with any fundus camera on the market; however, Ainnova and Avant are aiming for exclusivity by developing a lower-cost, easier to use camera. Ai-nova Acquisition Corp. (AAC), the company formed by the partnership between Avant and Ainnova, will develop the retinal cameras as part of the joint venture and licensing deal to facilitate the development of Ainnova's technology portfolio. AAC owns the global licensing rights to develop, maintain, and market Ainnova's technology portfolio. About Ainnova Tech, Inc.
