Putra Heights pipeline fire report to be released tomorrow

The Star30-06-2025
SEKINCHAN: The report on the investigation into the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire in Subang Jaya will be made public tomorrow, says Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the report, completed as scheduled on Friday, was initially set to be presented that day but was postponed due to the public holiday.
'It was ready, but we couldn't present it as it was a public holiday. So, it's better to do it this Monday.
'We will announce it after presenting it to the Cabinet, as required by procedure,' he said after launching the phase one development of the Sekinchan Marine Produce Landing Complex yesterday.
Earlier, the Selangor Mentri Besar's Office said in a statement that the technical investigation had been completed, Bernama reported.
The blaze and explosion, which occurred on April 1, destroyed 81 homes with over 40% structural damage, partially damaged another 81 and affected 57 others without burning.
A total of 218 houses, including those in Kampung Tengah, Puchong, were unaffected.
Amirudin also launched the first phase of the RM500mil Selangor Integrated Landing Port (SILP) project aimed at bolstering the state's fisheries sector and enhancing food security.
Construction is expected to begin by the end of 2026 and will include a centralised jetty, 30 to 40 boat parking bays and serviced apartments.
'Subsequent phases will include facilities for boat repairs, maintenance and construction, followed by the development of tourism zones,' said Amirudin.
He said the project, along with other planned agricultural developments like prawn farms in Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor, is expected to increase the state's agricultural output by 5%.
Spanning 33.9ha, the first phase of the SILP project will also include a fish auction hall, a commercial fish market, a tide-adaptive dock, a logistics hub for seafood distribution and maritime services, as well as shoreline upgrades.
SILP is also a key component of the Sabak Bernam Development Area, a regional initiative under the First Selangor Plan.

‘Bersejahtera Bersama' – Singapore, Malaysia Mark Six Decades Of Enduring Ties

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- Singapore's High Commissioner to Malaysia, Vanu Gopala Menon, has called for the continued strengthening of bilateral ties between Singapore and Malaysia, as both countries celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations this year. Speaking at Singapore's 60th National Day reception on Thursday, Vanu said the milestone was a celebration of the 'shared success and prosperity of both our nations' under the theme 'Bersejahtera Bersama.' 'In Malay, the prefix 'Ber-' conveys a sense of shared action, of doing something together. This aptly captures our bilateral relationship over the past 60 years. bootstrap slideshow 'One that has grown into a deeply intertwined partnership, built on trust and forged by working together, both in good times and otherwise. And, where we have prioritised shared prosperity for the betterment of our peoples,' he said. Gracing the event as Guest-of-Honour was Malaysia's Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. Also present were Singapore's Senior Minister of State Low Yen Ling, Minister of State Baey Yam Keng, government representatives, the business community, members of the diplomatic corps, and Singaporeans living in Malaysia. Vanu highlighted three 'Ber-' words as anchors of the relationship, noting that bekerjasama (working together) has been reflected in regular high-level engagements. 'My journey in Malaysia began during my time as a slightly more junior officer many years ago. Having spent close to 14 years total in Kuala Lumpur, I have had a front row seat to the evolution of the remarkable partnership we celebrate today,' he said. According to him, both leaders continue to maintain strong ties and revealed that Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who has attended the 46th ASEAN Summit hosted by Malaysia as ASEAN Chair, will attend the 47th ASEAN Summit in October.
