DENVER (KDVR) — A 45-year-old man was arrested in connection with a crash that left one motorcycle rider dead and a second with life-threatening injuries on Sunday night, which began with a confrontation near the Cherry Creek Reservoir. Diego Ortega-Camero, 45, was arrested by Denver police and is being investigated on charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by FOX31, witnesses told police that motorcyclists were at the Cherry Creek Reservoir, where they were weaving through traffic, speeding, playing loud music and allegedly causing disturbances. Groups demand that Denver's Flock license plate cameras be turned off That's when one confrontation escalated, with a rider pulling out a gun and firing a shot at a Honda Civic. But that wasn't the end of the motorcycle's interaction with the Civic. According to the Denver Police Department, officers were called to a crash involving a Honda Civic and a motorcyclist near East Hampden Avenue and South Yosemite Street at about 7:25 p.m. on Sunday. At the scene, officers found two men who appeared to be riding the same motorcycle. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Surveillance video obtained by FOX31 shows the driver of the Civic appear to accelerate, hitting one of the motorcycles and pushing it into oncoming traffic. Ortega-Camero then fled the crash scene on foot, according to police. The arrest affidavit alleges Ortega-Camero showed signs of intoxication; a blood test is pending. The department said that the final determination of charges will be made by the Denver District Attorney's Office, and the Office of the Medical Examiner will release the name of the decedent.
