JPJ signboards in Cameron Highlands vandalised
JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said they have held discussions with the Cameron Highlands district council to remove the vandalised signboards, adding the damaged signs have been replaced.
"We also discussed the matter with the Public Works Department (JKR).
"Additionally, the district council was asked to replace the damaged signboards, as vandalism does not fall under JPJ's jurisdiction," he said at a press conference during the JPJ Family Day celebration here today.
He said, JPJ would however, take action if they found anyone vandalising the signboards during their patrol.
Recently, a video went viral on social media showing several individuals placing stickers on signboards along the roads in Cameron Highlands.
One signboard, which marked the Perak Darul Ridzuan state border, was seen covered with various stickers.
Meanwhile, speaking about the Family Day celebration, Aedy said this was the first such event held in over 30 years, with nearly 3,000 JPJ officers and personnel from across the country gathering at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
"This programme follows the JPJ Sports Day, which was held over the past three days. We continued with the JPJ Family Day as another initiative to promote work-life balance.
"It is important that our officers and staff, in addition to carrying out their core duties, also have opportunities to unwind through recreational programmes," he said.
He added that JPJ would consider making the Family Day a biennial event, depending on the readiness and availability of its personnel.

Melaka JPJ issues 153 summonses for seatbelt violations
MELAKA: The Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 153 summonses to express and tour bus drivers as well as passengers for failing to wear seatbelts between July 1 and yesterday. Its director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop said 135 summonses were issued to passengers, and 18 to drivers. 'The violations were detected through undercover officers and regular enforcement operations. The seatbelt rule has been mandatory for express and tourist buses since July 1,' she said after a special joint operation by Melaka JPJ and other agencies at Batu Berendam here last night. She added that to raise awareness, JPJ has held engagement sessions with express and tour bus operators and provided promotional materials for display in buses. Earlier, during the operation, a 33-year-old motorcyclist was fined for not having a licence and riding a Honda Wave motorcycle that was found to be unsafe. The integrated operation, involving over 70 enforcement officers, checked 745 vehicles and issued penalties for 197 offences. - Bernama

New safety measures under review after deadly FRU accident
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are currently in discussions with various stakeholders regarding improvements to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) related to personnel movement and convoy safety, following the fatal crash involving members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU). Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said they are also reviewing technical proposals and their compliance with road safety standards and regulations set by the Road Transport Department (JPJ). "Following the tragic accident that occurred in Teluk Intan on May 13, which claimed nine lives involving members of the FRU, the police have taken several immediate and comprehensive steps to improve the SOP related to personnel movement and convoy safety. "Regarding the expected enforcement date of the new SOP and its monitoring method, the police are currently in discussions with various relevant stakeholders, including on technical proposals and compliance with road safety standards and JPJ regulations," he said in a written parliamentary reply. He was responding to Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu), who had queried the matter. He outlined the key preliminary findings by the police on weaknesses in the existing SOP that contributed to the accident. These include the use of tactical lorries to transport personnel over long distances without basic safety systems such as seat belts; insufficient ventilation and interior lighting in the lorries; disorganised interior space lacking separation between passengers and equipment; and vehicles not designed for long-distance travel, which can cause fatigue and stress to personnel. "The existing vehicles were not designed for long-distance endurance, which can cause fatigue and stress to personnel," he said.

Authorities clamp down on foreigners operating 'prebet sapu' in KL
KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (RTD) and Immigration Department have joined forces to monitor and take action against foreigners, including undocumented migrants, suspected of operating illegal private taxi services in Kuala Lumpur. These activities have raised public concern over safety and the livelihoods of licensed taxi and e-hailing drivers. Kuala Lumpur RTD director Hamidi Adam said a special operation was launched earlier this month following complaints from the public. The operation was prompted by an incident on July 13 near an embassy along Jalan Ampang, where enforcement teams were deployed to monitor the area closely. "Several offences were detected during the operation, including illegal parking on yellow lines, cracked windscreens, tinted windows, and the absence of official e-hailing stickers. "However, no foreign-driven vehicles were found offering "prebet sapu" services during the surveillance," Hamidi was quoted as saying by Harian Metro. He added that the RTD has carried out several other targeted operations since early last year, including Ops Transporter and Ops PEWA. Ops Transporter focused on busy public areas such as LRT Taman Melati, Wangsa Walk Mall, Setapak Central and KL East Mall. It resulted in 23 vehicles seized and 12 notices issued. "A total of 10 local individuals and 13 foreigners from countries including Afghanistan, Somalia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Yemen and Egypt were issued summonses and compounds under the Road Transport Act and the Land Public Transport Act," Hamidi said. Offences detected included operating prebet sapu services, driving without valid licences, misuse of vehicle licences, and illegal window tinting. Ops PEWA, conducted throughout last year, led to 243 summonses and the seizure of 101 cars and motorcycles involving foreign drivers. Hamidi urged the public to report illegal taxi activities through RTD's official complaint channels. Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Immigration director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said his department remains vigilant in monitoring foreigners involved in such operations. "The Immigration Department does not remain idle and takes public concerns seriously," he said. He added that even though no formal complaints have directly linked undocumented migrants to "prebet sapu" activities, enforcement action would be taken if immigration laws are breached. "Anyone suspected of abusing their immigration pass will be arrested and investigated immediately," Wan Mohammed Saupee said. He said that all foreigners must possess valid travel documents and immigration passes. Misuse of such documents, including working without permission, will result in stern action under the law. The joint effort by the RTD and Immigration Department comes amid growing concerns over illegal taxi operations run by foreigners, particularly near embassies and major roads in Kuala Lumpur.
