Sega hands physical media a win amid Nintendo's push toward digital with Switch 2 game-key cards — Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is confirmed to have "the full base game on a 64GB cartridge"
Sega has confirmed that the physical version of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on Switch 2 will be a normal old 64GB cartridge like the good old days.
There's been some question as to whether Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds' physical Switch 2 copy would come with one of those lame game-key cards that don't actually have the game data on them, but instead a "key" to download the game onto your system via the internet. Basically, it's akin to buying the physical version of a game, opening the case, and seeing a slip of paper with a key to redeem online. Something of a hybrid of digital and physical media, essentially.
Anyway, game-key cards have been controversial from the day they were revealed, but that hasn't stopped major publishers like Square Enix, Warner Bros. Games, and yes, Sega, from opting for game-key cards instead of traditional physical media. This trend, coupled with seemingly misleading messaging from Sega customer support a few weeks back, has led to a whole lot of speculation that the Switch 2 version of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will ship on a game-key card.
Not so! In an FAQ on Sega's website, it's confirmed in no uncertain terms: "The physical version will feature the full base game on a 64GB cartridge."
Sega also confirmed that the digital Switch 2 version is launching in Holiday 2025, while the physical version is due out "early 2026." There will be a standard version for $70 and the Digital Deluxe Edition for $90 that'll come with the season pass, a bunch of DLC, and 72 hours of early access.

High temperatures and advanced technology often don't mix well. The newly-released Nintendo Switch 2 (and its predecessor) are no exception. Nintendo's Japanese customer service X account recently posted that the Switch and Switch 2 should only be used between 5 and 35 degrees Celsius (41 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit). If you live in a hotter climate and want to play your Switch outside, ensure the temperature's below 95 degrees Fahrenheit; otherwise, your console may malfunction. And while Nintendo didn't specify whether it would be the type of malfunction that could cause long-term damage, I think most would rather not risk it. But if you're in a hot environment that doesn't have access to an air conditioner or you want to play outside, it's something to be slightly concerned about. Now, before anyone claims the Switch 2 is a poorly designed console with poor heat dispersion, it's far from the only device with temperature usage restrictions. For example, the iPhone 16 has a reTom'sded max ambient temperture of 95 degrees — the same as the Switch 2. The far more powerful Steam Deck has the 95 degree temperture limit. The point is: it's something to keep in mind when using your Nintendo Switch 2, but the temperture limit isn't neccessarilly something wrong with the Nintendo consoles — it's a common limition for handheld devices. Nintendo raises the Switch 1 price from $299 to $339
The original Nintendo Switch, which has cost $299.99 in the US since its release in 2017, is now priced at $339.99 on Nintendo's online store. Other first-gen Switch models are now more expensive, too, with the Switch OLED going from $349.99 to $399.99, and the Switch Lite increasing from $199.99 to $229.99. Nintendo said on Friday that its decision to raise the price was 'based on market conditions,' just after implementing a similar new set of prices in Canada on August 1st. The US announcement came just one day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order that will impose new 'reciprocal' tariffs on a range of countries. Trump's growing list of tariffs now includes a 20 percent levy on products imported from Vietnam, where Nintendo has transferred most of its production. Nintendo also issued $10 price increases for the Alarmo and Switch 1 Joy-Cons, which now cost $109.99 and $89.99, respectively. Prices aren't changing for the Switch 2 console, as well as Switch and Switch 2 games, whether physical or digital. With the price increase, the Switch OLED is now only slightly less expensive than the $449.99 Switch 2 (which doesn't have an OLED display). The Switch 2 has been a massive hit so far, selling over 6 million units since launch despite Nintendo struggling to keep up with demand.
