Mid East Info08-02-2025

Private AI cloud deployment is set to transform operational efficiency and drive innovation within e&'s operations in the UAE.
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – February 2025: e& UAE, the flagship telecommunications arm of e&, has announced the successful completion of the first phase of integrating AI into its private cloud for operations. This initiative, powered by Intel's advanced AMX technology and Cisco's cutting-edge networking and data centre solutions, aims to elevate e& UAE's operational efficiency by leveraging AI and developing AI use cases across its business operations.
The integration of AI into e&'s private cloud was collaboratively developed by Intel, Cisco and e&'s cloud experts with the goal to create a robust cloud environment. The initiative aims to develop AI models for analysing large datasets on e&'s network, optimising operations by migrating AI workloads to the cloud, and creating customer support AI use cases. In addition, this deployment will help improve business performance within e&'s internal operations in the UAE, consequently enhancing their customer experience.
Marwan Bin Shakar, Acting Chief Technology Officer, e& UAE, said: 'By embedding AI into our private cloud infrastructure, we are transforming how we operate and deliver value at e& UAE. This reflects our commitment to leveraging AI to go beyond enhancing operational efficiency. Collaborating with Intel and Cisco has allowed us to build a future-proof, scalable and reliable cloud environment that supports our vision of becoming a truly AI-enabled organisation. Together, we are laying the groundwork for a digital ecosystem that drives long-term value, adaptability and sustainable innovation across our operations.'
Intel's Advanced Matrix Extensions (AMX) is a built-in accelerator, integrated with Intel® Xeon® scalable processors. Engineered to handle AI workloads—including inference and fine-tuning on models with up to 20 billion parameters—these processors provide a compelling and scalable foundation for deploying AI at scale. AMX aims to enhance the performance and efficiency of e& UAE's computational workloads by optimising AI and machine learning processes, accelerating data analytics, and reducing resource consumption. This integration contributes to the development of scalable, cost-effective, and energy-efficient operations, allowing e& UAE to effectively run AI workloads.
Eng.Taha Khalifa Intel Middle East & Africa General Manager said: 'Intel and e& have a long history of working on innovative technologies. The new private cloud phase is enabled with the AMX capabilities from Intel, which allow the IT workloads to use AI accelerators for each and every application. This technology is not only a game changer in the IT environment but also is an AI enabler with sustainability in mind to minimise the power consumption thus maximising sustainability and power efficiency.'
Cisco has been instrumental in equipping e& UAE with the infrastructure required to support its private AI cloud deployment, using the UCS X-Series M7 Blade Servers with the 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors and Cisco Nexus switches. This robust on-premises setup helps provide seamless connectivity, reliability, sovereignty and security, with the intent to serve as a foundation for a future-ready AI-powered cloud.
Zayan Sadek, Managing Director, Service Provider – MEA, Cisco, said: 'Cisco's advanced networking and data centre solutions help provide e& UAE with a secure and scalable infrastructure that is designed to support modern AI workloads. The ultimate goal is to help e& UAE enhance operational efficiency, adapt to evolving market conditions, and foster innovation in the telecom industry.'
Through this deployment, e& UAE is enhancing its technological capabilities to support its journey towards becoming an AI-driven organisation. This milestone aligns with the group's broader AI strategy, which focuses on leveraging AI and data analytics to drive operational excellence and advance sustainability initiatives.

Too much AI control now can be a risky business - Middle East Business News and Information

Tech entrepreneur Rashit Makhat says the human touch is still vital to reach the best decisions Dubai, UAE, 5 June 2025: As artificial intelligence becomes more embedded in everyday business in the UAE, what are the dangers of giving it too much control? While AI is dramatically speeding up workflows and delivering big efficiencies, experts are warning that relying on it too heavily, too soon, could backfire. Recent insights show that AI works best as a support tool, not a decision-maker. When businesses let machines steer strategy, hiring, or customer service without human oversight, the risks are real. Tech investor and entrepreneur, Rashit Makhat, is among those urging caution on the grounds that, while AI can crunch data and offer options in seconds, it doesn't yet understand people, context, or consequences. 'In today's business environment, the human touch matters more than ever,' says Makhat, Director and co-founder of UAE tech venture company, Scalo Technologies. 'AI will transform business, make companies faster, smarter, and more efficient, and no-one wants to be left behind. 'But while AI can draft entire business plans in moments, unlike humans, it doesn't think. It doesn't feel. It doesn't understand people. If businesses forget that, they could be heading for trouble'. The idea of machines running entire industries is not new. But what are the consequences, when we take AI out of the lab and into the boardroom? Harvard Business Review watched a series of executive team meetings at an $85 million revenue Austrian company. They found that what makes AI a valuable team member is that it helps execs see more options. And it provides information quickly to speed up decisions. 'AI worked best when guided by humans, supporting but not replacing, decision-making,' said Makhat. 'The best ideas came when the AI prompted executives to think differently. When they did, they made better choices. AI wasn't the leader – it was the assistant.' The experiment can't disguise AI's broader impact on corporate decision-making. Some experts predict it could soon run entire departments, or even whole companies. But problems can occur when people treat AI like it's already in charge. In February, three lawyers in a lawsuit against Walmart were fined $5,000 by a U.S. judge in Wyoming for citing fake cases generated by AI. The judge said they had a duty to check their sources were real. Reuters also reported that over the past two years, more U.S. judges have raised concerns or disciplined lawyers for using AI-generated cases and quotes in court. 'The most successful companies aren't those that rush to adopt every new technology,' says Makhat. 'They're the ones that mix innovation with human intelligence. Startups, in particular, must be extra careful. AI should sharpen human judgment, not take its place.' Ends

OPEN// PM witnesses official launch of 5G mobile services in Egypt

CAIRO, June 4 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli attended on Wednesday the official launch ceremony of 5G mobile services in Egypt. The event took place in Giza's Pyramids area, in the presence of Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, the governor of Giza, former ICT ministers, and a great host of senior officials from relevant state bodies and mobile network operators (MNOs), including Vodafone Egypt, Orange Egypt, e& Egypt, and Telecom Egypt. This step, which is part of the state's efforts to improve the ICT sector and enhance its digital infrastructure, has crowned the efforts exerted by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) in cooperation with ICT companies operating in Egypt. Earlier in October 2024, Egypt awarded its final round of 5G licenses to telecom operators, including a $675 million deal for Vodafone, Orange, and e& Egypt, following a similar agreement with Telecom Egypt earlier that year. The term of the agreement also includes the renewal of licenses for previous generations for 15 years. The introduction of 5G is expected to enhance high-speed connectivity, support the development of smart cities, and enable advancements in sectors such as healthcare and infrastructure. It will support distance education, digital healthcare, e-gaming, smart banking, as well as augmented reality (AR) and AI applications, which improve citizens' digital life, create new opportunities for digital innovation and entrepreneurship, and pave the way for building a strong digital economy in Egypt.
