Brooklyn Dad's Push for Support Transforms into a 1,500-Strong Fatherhood Community

Yahoo6 days ago
When Parents Next Gen winner Joe Gonzales became a father, he noticed how isolating it could be. That's why he created Brooklyn Stroll, a community for dads that's taken the borough by storm.
After the birth of his son, Joe Gonzales was struck by how isolating new parenthood could be. He searched for a community of dads, somewhere to share everything from teething tips to the more vulnerable sides of fatherhood, like mental health, but came up empty. So, he created one himself— the Brooklyn Stroll Club. Gonzales' dedication to improving his community by creating connection is why he's a Parents Next Gen winner.
Gonzales introduced the idea on TikTok, and it quickly took flight. His post went viral, drawing thousands of views, likes, and comments from dads craving the same connection. What began as a simple idea has grown into a thriving community of more than 1,500 fathers, offering online and in-person connections. While many members are still deep in the trenches of sleepless nights and midnight feedings, the Brooklyn Stroll Club has become a space for dads in all stages of parenting. It's a place to share stories, get advice, and build meaningful relationships rooted in shared experience.
We sat down with Gonzales to learn more about the future of the Brooklyn Stroll Club—and his vision for a more connected, compassionate generation of fathers.
What inspired you? How did this start?
I started the Brooklyn Stroll Club in 2024 when I became a dad, and my life changed completely. Really, we just started in the park as dads just wanting to meet up. And it quickly grew to over 1,500 dads who are on our online community who chat daily about their experiences, tips, and are really just looking for encouragement in fatherhood. And then we do monthly meetups to really help dads build confidence. For some dads, it's their first time outside with their child.
I know your son is young. How are you raising him to be a changemaker?
I'm raising my son to be a changemaker by showing him that his parents take risks, love deeply, and pursue things they're passionate about. And I want him to feel confident in everything he does, in everything he tries. Even though he is little, he is always watching. I'm modeling the behavior for him so he can implement it later. I'm raising my kid to be a changemaker by the way we live our lives.
It's nice that you'll get to grow with these fathers because it sounds like you're all kind of in the same phase. Are there other dads at different stages of their journeys?
It's been really cool being a dad with a one-year-old because we've seen dads in the community who have just learned they are expecting. Then some dads have newborns. Those guys are in the trenches of figuring out how to do it. Then we have dads who have older kids, so they can share knowledge from their experiences with us. There's a little bit of everything.
We hope to encourage not only the dads who are coming in, but also ourselves as we grow together. The community changes every year, and it changes with every kid. Every person's journey of fatherhood is unique. And so you can find somebody who has at least something you can relate to in the community. And I think that's super important.
With all of the people you've met and talked to, what's one thing you've heard that stuck with you?
One sentiment that I hear from the community is that they didn't know how much they needed the community, and I think that's the most important thing: being able to be vulnerable and open. And when you can find that and truly understand that it's helping you and growing you, I believe we can shape the next generation of fathers.
At some point, the strollers get retired. Do you see meet-ups where it's sometimes just dads without their kids?
We want to create experiences not only for dads and their children, but also experiences to help dads with mental health, self-care, and everything that goes along with processing fatherhood. Once we did a boxing meetup, and in the future, we want to do meditation classes, things like that.
It's like this: How do we serve ourselves better? How can we better serve our families? How can we better serve the community around us? Those are the questions that we hope to answer as we become better fathers. Fatherhood is complex. Our hope is to give dads the tools that they need to be better for their families and themselves.
The conversations I've had with dads are that they put themselves last, and I think that's always tough to hear.
I'm sure people hear 'Stroll Club' and think you're just having meetups with your children. But this is really about dads finding connection and that friendship.
Yes, that's the most important thing. Dads in a group chat talking about what they're going to do for dinner, what they're going to do for bedtime, or how they're going to do it. To me, that's the most impactful part of it. When you're with your kid, it's always chaos, but there's beauty in that as well.

Madden 26: Ravens star QB Lamar Jackson headlines the '99 Overall Club'

The Ravens are loaded on offense, with two or three players who can legitimately be ranked as the best at their position. Madden NFL 26 will be released on August 14, and EA Sports has started the rollout, revealing the seven players who made the coveted '99 Overall Club. Baltimore was well represented with MVP candidate and star quarterback Lamar Jackson making the list. Last season, the 28-year-old Jackson set career highs in touchdown passes (41), passing yards (4,172), and quarterback rating (119.6) while throwing just four interceptions. Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken is entering his third season coaching Jackson and expects the quarterback's growth to continue and reach another level as he enters the prime of his career. New Trailer For IT: WELCOME TO DERRY Teases The History of Pennywise's Terror — GeekTyrant

HBO Max just dropped a chilling new trailer for IT: Welcome to Derry , and horror fans got their first look at the upcoming series during a late-night panel at San Diego Comic-Con. The show promises to take us deeper into Stephen King's terrifying world, exploring the dark history behind Pennywise and the cursed town of Derry. The teaser sets an unsettling tone as it opens with a sense of unease spreading through the quiet streets of Derry as children begin disappearing. At the center of this nightmare is a young woman, played by Taylor Paige, who moves to town with her husband just as things start to spiral. While Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise only makes a brief appearance at the end, his sinister presence looms throughout the trailer. Set in the universe of King's iconic novel, Welcome to Derry expands on the vision introduced by Andy Muschietti in the feature films. Muschietti, who is executive producing the series alongside Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, says the show will dive deep into the roots of Derry's nightmares: 'There's a reason why the story is told backwards.' The first season is set in 1962, a few years before the events of IT: Chapter One . Future seasons will travel even further into the past, with Season 2 exploring 1935 and Season 3 going all the way back to 1908. The series draws inspiration from the interludes in King's original novel, which detail Mike Hanlon's research into Derry's horrific past. Muschietti explains: 'The interludes are basically chapters that reflect Mike Hanlon's research… fragments of his research. For 27 years, it's the guy trying to figure out what it is, what did it, who did it, who saw it, and all that stuff.' Each season will explore one of Pennywise's 27-year cycles of terror and the catastrophic events that came with them. Muschietti teases: 'They talk about catastrophic events from the past, like the fire in the Black Spot… the massacre of the Bradley Gang, a gang of bank robbers in the '30s… and the explosion of the Kitchener Ironworks.' These tragedies will serve as the backbone of the show's narrative, promising a bloody and terrifying history lesson for fans of the franchise. Muschietti confirms: 'We are basing the three seasons of this series on each of these catastrophic events.' With excitement coming out of Comic-Con and Warner Bros. reportedly thrilled with the first season, there's already talk of fast-tracking Season 2. IT: Welcome to Derry is shaping up to be one of the most exciting horror series of the year, offering fans a chance to see the origins of Pennywise like never before. Get ready to return to the town where fear was born when the series premieres on HBO later this year. Here are some details on each of the tree stories: The Black Spot: The Black Spot is one of the most memorable stories and it is told by Mike Hanlon's father, Will Hanlon, a tale he kept hidden until his last days. In It 's second interlude, Mike visits his father in the hospital and listens to his dad recount a harrowing chapter from his youth. Years before, Will Hanlon and his fellow Air Force servicemen had created a nightclub called The Black Spot, a haven for Black patrons in a time of segregation and deep-seated racism. One night, the Maine Legion of White Decency, a violent supremacist group, burned the club to the ground, killing many innocent people. And while the Legion set the blaze, something far more sinister was lurking in the flames… It itself, taking the shape of a monstrous bird, snatching up its victims amid the fiery chaos. One of the people inside was a young Dick Halloran from The Shining , who worked in the club's kitchen. The Bradley Gang: The Bradley Gang was group of Depression-era outlaws who arrive in Derry in 1929 to hide out from the FBI. They are gunned down by members of the Derry community on Canal Street in the middle of the afternoon, while arriving at Machen's Sporting Goods store to pick up a shipment of ammunition. Mike Hanlon recalls seven members of the Bradley Gang, though Norbert Keene, who was alive during the ambush, recalls eight members. The gang consists of its leader, Al Bradley, and his brother, George. They rob six or seven banks in the Midwest and kidnap a banker for a ransom of thirty thousand dollars before deciding to kill the banker anyway. The other gang members are the brothers Joe and Cal Conklin, Arthur 'Creeping Jesus' Malloy, handsome Patrick Caudy, George's common-law wife, Kitty Donahue, and Caudy's on-and-off again girlfriend, Marie Hauser. The Explosion of the Kitchener Ironworks: The Kitchener Ironworks was an ironworks outside of Derry. In 1906, despite every machine in the works having been shut completely down, the Ironworks inexplicably exploded, killing a group of 88 children and 102 total people who were participating in an Easter egg hunt. The tragedy was caused by It sabotaging the equipment, presumed to be responsible for eight missing bodies. This marked the beginning of the creature's 27-year hibernation period.

Linkin Park's Blockbuster Albums Return Together

Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory and Meteora reenter Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart at the same time ... More while rising on several other lists as well. LOS ANGELES, CA - NOVEMBER 18: Musicians Phoenix Farrell, Rob Bourdon, Chester Bennington, Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Joe Hahn of Linkin Park poses for a portrait at the 40th American Music Awards Getty Images Portrait Studio held at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on November 18, 2012 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Michael Buckner/AMA2012/Getty Images for AMA) It was only about two months ago that Linkin Park dropped the deluxe edition of its album From Zero. The standard version arrived in late 2024 and was heralded as a welcome comeback for the hard rock outfit, which had been largely dormant for years following the passing of frontman and lead singer Chester Bennington. While only a few weeks have passed since the group added new tunes to the project's tracklist, From Zero is nowhere to be found on the Billboard charts. Two of the Grammy-winning act's oldest sets do manage to return together to the same tally, as they remain hugely popular, decades after their initial heyday. Linkin Park Pushes Two Fan-Favorite Projects Back Both Hybrid Theory and Meteora, the band's first and second albums, respectively, return to the Top Rock Albums chart this week. The collections appear very close to one another on the tally, as Hybrid Theory reenters Billboard's ranking of the most consumed rock collections in the United States at No. 21, while Meteora finds its way to No. 23. Hybrid Theory Has Never Hit No. 1 Despite being one of the most successful rock releases of the past quarter century, Hybrid Theory has never reached No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums chart. In the 280 weeks it has spent somewhere on the ranking, the set has climbed as high as the runner-up spot. Meteora, however, has reached the summit, though it has only spent a fraction of the time on the tally, with 68 frames to its credit. Hybrid Theory and Meteora Surge on Multiple Billboard Lists Both Hybrid Theory and Meteora climb on almost every Billboard tally on which they appear this week. The full-lengths lift on the Billboard 200, Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums charts. Those two projects are joined by Papercuts on the list of the biggest hard rock efforts in the country. The compilation, which gathers together many of Linkin Park's most famous tunes and was released shortly before From Zero arrived, dips one space to No. 23. Linkin Park's Biggest Singles Keep the Albums Afloat Streaming activity connected to some of Linkin Park's earliest career smashes seems to be powering both Hybrid Theory and Meteora on the charts. Tunes like "In the End," "Numb," and "Somewhere I Belong" appear on some U.S.-based rankings this week, largely ones powered solely by plays on platforms like Spotify. "In the End," the band's breakout smash, nearly returns to No. 1 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs ranking, while "Somewhere I Belong" — featured on Meteora — debuts on that tally at No. 19, earning the group its fourteenth career placement.
