Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said that among the suggestions received was a proposal for university students to travel during the day, instead of at night, to enhance safety.
Advertisement 'Some have suggested that university students and undergraduates should travel during the day rather than at night, to enhance safety,' he told the media after the 'Luncheon Talk with Editors' session, in conjunction with the Asean-Malaysia Chairmanship 2025, at his ministry, here, yesterday. Zambry also said that he had been informed of a separate accident involving an express bus, early yesterday morning, which reportedly had students from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) among its passengers. 'I only received information about the accident this morning. Fortunately, there were no injuries,' he said. In the tragic incident early Monday morning, 15 UPSI students lost their lives when the bus they were traveling in overturned at KM53 of the East-West Highway (JRTB), near Tasik Banding, Gerik. Gerik bus crash: Counselling team waiting for families, says Nancy
KUALA LUMPUR: The Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry is allowing students and families affected by the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) bus tragedy time to become emotionally ready before commencing counselling sessions. Although the counselling team is prepared to start anytime, many families are still waiting for their loved ones to recover in the Intensive Care Unit and wards, said Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri. "We also received a report that some counselling students from UPSI are using this opportunity to carry out practical counselling for their friends, as some affected students feel more comfortable talking to their peers. On June 9, 15 UPSI students were killed in the crash involving a bus and a multi-purpose vehicle in Banun, near Tasik Banding, approximately 57 kilometres from Gerik, Perak. Nancy spoke to reporters after officiating the Wanita Gig and Business In Technology (Wanita GIG@BIT) programme on Thursday (June 12). The programme is an initiative by the Women Development Department (JWP) to open up digital economic opportunities for women, reduce the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), while supporting more inclusive national development. "We have many economic empowerment programmes, and Wanita GIG@BIT is one of them. We will have more programmes involving women in income generation while helping them acquire skills. "There are 350 participants this year, with a focus on reskilling and upskilling in the latest technologies, including artificial intelligence, for women who want to lead in entrepreneurship," she said. Throughout this year, the JPW has planned several other programmes with strategic partners, including eKelas Usahawan @JPW, STEM Graduate Empowerment into the Workforce Programme, Digital Photography and Video Workshops, as well as Basic Generative AI and Cybersecurity Awareness Programme in collaboration with Maxis Berhad, Canon Marketing Malaysia, Mereka Academy, and the International Federation of Women and Commerce Industries Malaysia (IWFCIM). The ministry hopes Wanita GIG@BIT will increase the participation rate of the female labour force in the digital field and further empower women in the country.

Crocodile caught in Tun Sakaran Marine Park

SEMPORNA: A giant-size crocodile was caught at Tun Sakaran Marine Park, here, on Wednesday. It was learnt that the crocodile was caught by the Kumpulan Keselamatan Nelayan Semporna after two hours of operation. Advertisement A Facebook user, Salleh Abdul Salleh who uploaded a video showing the group while trying to catch the reptile, said the efforts and cooperation of the fishermen proved their braveness, unity and joint responsibility to protect our water. 'You not only caught a crocodile, but restored a sense of security to the entire community,' said the Facebook user. On Tuesday, Sabah Parks issued a closure notice for Pulau Bohey Dulang under the Tun Sakaran Marine Park from June 10–13. The closure was to facilitate crocodile risk mitigation operations and to ensure smooth efforts as well as public safety. Pahang Offers Rich Cultural Experience To AIPA Delegation
GENERAL PEKAN, June 11 (Bernama) -- Pahang's unique culture, handicrafts and culinary offerings emerged as key highlights for the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) delegation during their four-day visit here. Sharing her experience at the Tunku Azizah Royal Craft Village in Pulau Keladi, AIPA Secretary-General Siti Rozaimeriyanty Abdul Rahman said the intricate art of Tenun Pahang Diraja stood out for its uniqueness compared to weaving traditions in other countries in the region. 'We can see a variety of handicrafts here, and as for the weaving, I noticed distinct differences in the patterns compared to those in other ASEAN countries,' she told reporters here. The visit was organised by the Malaysian Parliament in collaboration with the Pahang government, in conjunction with the 8th Meeting of the AIPA Advisory Council on Dangerous Drugs (AIPACODD) 2025, held in Kuantan from June 9 to 12. Meanwhile, Siti Rozaimeriyanty also expressed her appreciation to the Malaysian Parliament and the Pahang government for holding the AIPACODD meeting outside the federal capital, which allowed delegates to gain exposure to the local culture. 'For many of us, this was our first time visiting areas outside of Kuala Lumpur, and for some, their first visit to Kuantan. ASEAN is about cultural understanding and exchange,' she said. Commenting on the AIPACODD meeting, Siti Rozaimeriyanty said it was successfully held and concluded with two draft consensus papers to be presented at the upcoming AIPA General Assembly scheduled for September.
