Crystal meth, illegal firearm seized in Baghdad's Sadr City
Iraqi security forces arrested two suspects, including a young woman, in Sadr City on Friday during a surprise checkpoint operation.
The Baghdad Police Directorate reported that patrols from the Second Sadr City Emergency Unit stopped a motorcycle carrying the pair after observing suspicious behavior. One of the suspects was reportedly masked at the time of the arrest.
Upon searching them, officers found approximately 50 grams of crystal methamphetamine packaged in multiple bags, along with an unlicensed handgun.

Activists urge recognition of Yazidi genocide
Shafaq News – Al-Sulaymaniyah On Sunday, writers, intellectuals, and political figures in Al-Sulaymaniyah held a solidarity gathering to mark the 11th anniversary of the Yazidi genocide by ISIS in Sinjar, Nineveh province. During a press conference on the sidelines of the event, civil activist Saza Abdullah explained that thousands of displaced Yazidis are still living in difficult conditions in camps across Zakho, Erbil, Duhok, and Al-Sulaymaniyah. She noted that while some families have returned to their areas, the continued existence of camps demonstrates that the catastrophe is far from over, adding, 'Most of Nineveh has been rebuilt, except for Sinjar, which still suffers from neglect and systematic destruction targeting Yazidis.' The fate of more than 2,600 Yazidi women and children remains unknown, and around 80 mass graves have yet to be opened, she said, pointing out that more than 40 children were killed, and over 3,000 Yazidi women were enslaved. She called on the Iraqi government, the Kurdistan Regional Government, and the International Criminal Court to recognize what happened in Sinjar as a crime of genocide against humanity, to compensate the victims, intensify efforts to recover the kidnapped, and establish an impartial court to hold perpetrators accountable. 'Until now, there is no clear national vision—neither from Baghdad nor Erbil—to resolve the crisis, despite the magnitude of the tragedy its people endured,' she concluded. ISIS invaded Sinjar, home to a Yazidi majority, on August 3, 2014. The group massacred men and elderly women and kidnapped more than 5,000 individuals, including women and children.

Syria shuts Daraa corridor as security forces retake hill in Suwayda
Shafaq News – Damascus Syria's Interior Ministry on Sunday closed the Busra al-Sham humanitarian corridor in eastern Daraa after clashes erupted nearby, while Internal Security Forces regained control of a strategic hill in western Suwayda following confrontations with armed factions. A ministry source explained to al-Ikhbariya TV that the closure of the crossing—a key humanitarian route used to transfer civilians and aid across several villages in eastern Daraa—was temporary and intended to secure the area after 'outlaw groups' violated the ceasefire by attacking Security Forces. Separately, Shafaq News correspondent in Syria reported that the Security Forces successfully repelled an assault on Tel Hadeed and reestablished full control. A security source confirmed that government units had 'fully redeployed' and heightened their alert level to prevent any renewed attempts to seize the site. A military source had earlier told our agency that local Druze factions had captured Tel Hadeed after fierce clashes with government forces and allied tribal fighters. According to the source, Syrian forces shelled residential areas and faction positions overnight, killing one fighter and damaging civilian homes. In response, a Syrian government official accused the factions of breaching the ceasefire by targeting government forces and shelling villages in western Suwayda. Suwayda has been under a fragile ceasefire since July 19, following a week-long conflict between local factions, Bedouin tribes, and government forces that killed at least 1000 people. In a statement issued Sunday, the Interior Ministry denounced what it called 'mutinous gangs' for exploiting the ceasefire to launch attacks and spread sectarian incitement.
