With the August bank holiday weekend around the corner, families across the UK are still hoping to lock in a spontaneous getaway that won't blow the budget, especially to hot spots like Disneyland Paris and classic European escapes.
Jet-setting Brits may be thinking it's too late in the season to book a last-minute getaway for next weekend's bank holiday, but that's not the case according to one expert who has a top tip for booking your dream break and saving the most money.
Ticket experts at AttractionTickets (www.attractiontickets.com) have analysed pricing data and industry travel trends to reveal the exact date and time Brits should book their last-minute August bank holiday trips for the best possible price.
Their findings show that the best date is this Sunday, 17 August but there's a slight catch - you'll need to prep on Saturday evening, get an early night and set your alarm. This is because 6am is the time slot on Sunday you should aim for if you'd like your dream getaway at impressive prices that won't blow your budget.
According to Oliver Brendon, CEO of AttractionTickets, the trick to finding value this late is timing your purchase carefully.
'It's easy to assume the early bird always gets the deal. In reality, travel companies adjust fares repeatedly based on demand, and we see opportunities appear even in the final days before departure. There's still time to save on last-minute August bank holiday travel if you know when to book."
He admits that his review of historic pricing alongside industry reports shows that Sundays regularly deliver the lowest average booking prices. "Airlines adjust seat availability and prices over the weekend, and travellers who book on a Sunday can often expect to pay significantly less than those booking on a Friday.
"We also see a clear early-morning advantage. Around 6:00 a.m is when fresh fares frequently appear, before the day's search traffic ramps up."
And there's one time that Oliver urges holidaymakers to avoid - deeming it the "most expensive time to book."
"Avoid Fridays - this is when fares tend to spoke due to demand."

British holidaymakers heading to Spain are being urged to take "extreme precautions" in light of the country's soaring temperatures. "This, combined with the high level of sunshine typical of summer, is causing temperatures to be higher than usual for this time of year, resulting in a heat wave. "[Today, Monday] temperatures are expected to rise further in the Ebro basin, the southern and eastern thirds of the Iberian Peninsula, and the eastern Cantabrian Sea. Temperatures will begin to fall in the northwest, most noticeably in Galicia. "Temperatures will therefore continue to reach 37-39C across the interior of the Iberian Peninsula, also extending to the Júcar and Segura regions and the interior of the Basque Country, where temperatures could even exceed 40C locally. "In the lower Guadalquivir, highs could reach over 42C, and although with low probability, this threshold could also be exceeded in the Ebro Valley and the northeastern depressions, where this day is expected to be the hottest of the episode." Meanwhile, a yellow heat health warning has been issued for the UK as most parts have seen temperatures soar past 30C. This signifies the fourth summer heatwave, with England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland all grappling with blistering temperatures. Several water companies have had to impose hosepipe bans on activities such as watering gardens, washing cars and filling paddling pools.

Oceania Cruises has announced the newest route in its 2027 Around The World line-up: a 129-day voyage from Sydney to London designed to explore the wonders of Asia, the Mediterranean and beyond A major cruise company has launched a new trip from Sydney to London—lasting over four months. The 'Kangaroo Route' will span 129 days and is set to depart for the first time in 2027. According to Oceania Cruises, this new route will allow travellers to 'journey along the magnificent coastlines of Australia before spending more than two months exploring the cultural and natural wonders of Asia '. The voyage will include 'iconic cities and hidden gems of the timeless Mediterranean' before concluding in London. The trip will depart from Sydney on February 26, 2027 and arrive in London on July 5, 2027. In between, the ship will visit more than 80 ports across 34 countries and four continents. It comes after a warning to Brit tourists planning all-inclusive holidays to Spain. The itinerary includes Egypt, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha, as well as European hotspots including the shores of Greece and Italy, as well as medieval cities in Croatia and Spain's Costa del Sol. The itinerary also features overnight stays in locations including Cairns, Shanghai, Tokyo, Singapore, Mumbai, Luxor and Bordeaux. The cruise company, a subsidiary of Norwegian Cruise Line, said guests will have access to 'the most spacious standard staterooms at sea', which are 291 square feet, complete with verandas. The European Union holiday hotspot has issued the uncommon warning for British visitors at one of the most sought-after beaches on the popular La Graciosa. The latest warning comes after Brits were recently warned with a man facing up to a €200,000 fine for breaking a little-known rule about drone use in Spain. However this is not the only warning issued to UK tourists this season. UK tourists have also previously been warned to check their travel insurance policy before travelling as 12 Spanish airports are facing strikes. Graciosa Island, or more commonly La Graciosa, is a volcanic island in the Canary Islands of Spain, situated two kilometres north of Lanzarote across the Strait of El Río. Featured on this year's list is the Playa de Caleta de Sebo, the "town beach" of La Graciosa's capital, alongside the Playa de la Francesa, positioned a little further along the coastline. Article continues below Ecologistas en Acción's yearly report, which has been spotlighting environmental mismanagement in Spain since 2005, catalogues the beaches awarded a black flag this year. According to Ecologists in Action, the beach in Caleta de Sebo is in a "poor state of conservation" with rubbish from vessels, beachgoers, and eateries adding to contamination, reports BirminghamLive. At Playa de la Francesa they caution of the issue of catamaran excursions that arrive at the location "holding parties, meals, games, and contests with loud music and leaving waste behind on the sand and in the water". They allege that catamaran passengers toss chicken scraps to birds, primarily seagulls, which can strike the hulls of the boats while attempting to catch them, and discard leftover rice into the sea to feed the fish. Lanzarote, along with other Canary Islands such as Tenerife and Gran Canaria, is a popular destination for British tourists. However last year Playa Blanca town beach was given a black flag by Ecologists in Action due to incidents of sewage leaks.
