Woman killed after falling out of car, hit by tanker in Port Dickson
The accident involved a Perodua Myvi and a Volvo oil tanker lorry.
A 34-year-old male driver was unharmed and their five-month-old child, who was seated in the front with a child safety seat, also did not sustain any injuries.
PORT DICKSON – A woman was killed after being hit by a tanker lorry when she was flung out of the car she was travelling in at kilometre 26, Jalan Lukut–Sepang, here on Sunday.
In the May 4 incident at 8.20am, the 39-year-old victim was believed to have been thrown out of the vehicle after the rear door suddenly opened.
Port Dickson district police chief, Superintendent Maslan Udin said the accident involved a Perodua Myvi and a Volvo oil tanker lorry.
'Initial investigations revealed that the accident occurred when the rear right door of the Perodua Myvi, in which the woman was travelling, suddenly opened while going through a bend, causing her to be flung into the opposite lane before being run over by the oncoming Volvo oil tanker.
'The woman's husband, who was also the 34-year-old driver and their five-month-old baby, who was seated in the front using a child safety seat, as well as the lorry driver, were not injured,' he said in a statement on Sunday.
He confirmed that the victim was dead at the scene due to severe head injuries.
He added that the 34-year-old male driver was unharmed and their five-month-old child, who was seated in the front with a child safety seat, also did not sustain any injuries.
'The tanker lorry driver was also uninjured. Checks revealed that both vehicles had valid road tax and insurance.
'Urine screening of the car driver returned negative for drugs,' he added.
He said dashcam footage from the tanker lorry had been obtained to assist in the investigation.
No criminal elements have been found so far, and further investigation is ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
'The public is advised to always ensure that vehicle doors are securely locked, especially when carrying passengers, to prevent such incidents from recurring,' he said.
