Driver set to appear in court in deadly Ocean Parkway crash that killed mother, 2 children in Brooklyn
Miriam Yarimi, the
driver accused of killing a mother and her two children
last month on busy Ocean Parkway in Midwood, Brooklyn, is scheduled to make her first in-person court appearance Wednesday.
Yarimi faces three counts of
manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide
and several other charges in
the March 29 crash
.
Earlier this month, the 32-year-old
appeared for a virtual hearing
from NYU-Langone hospital, where she was undergoing a psychological evaluation.
Prosecutors say she made several statements while in custody, including, "I have the devil in my eye," "I need a whole work-up to get whatever is in my body," "Where's my daughter?" and "I didn't kill anyone."
Natasha Saada, 34, and her two daughters, 8-year-old Diana and 5-year-old Deborah, were killed in the crash. Her 4-year-old son, Philip, was hospitalized with critical injuries.
Police said Yarimi was speeding when her Audi A3 struck a Toyota Camry with five people inside before hitting the family as they crossed the street.
Her record shows that she was driving with a suspended license and had more than 99 violations and 20 speeding tickets.
"I will call it like it is. This was a horrific tragedy caused by someone who shouldn't have been on the road," NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said during
a news conference at the scene
.
At her last court hearing, Yarimi's attorney said this is her first encounter with the criminal justice system and described her as an active member of her community.
Members of the Brooklyn district attorney's office are expected to speak about the case after Wednesday's arraignment.

Man arrested in murder of woman found with neck injury in Brooklyn basement
A 32-year old man has been arrested for murder after telling cops in Buffalo, NY, that his girlfriend was dead at a house in Brooklyn where NYPD cops later found her body, which showed signs of a neck injury, police said Saturday. John Roseau, 32, was arrested one day after he walked into a Buffalo police station and told police there that his girlfriend was dead, giving them the address of a house on New York Ave. near E. 33rd St. in Midwood, a police source said. NYPD officers performing a wellness check found 26-year-old Dahana Jean there in a room in the basement lying on her back unconscious and unresponsive with a neck injury, cops said. EMS pronounced Jean dead at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide, but is still investigating how she died. 'It's terrible. It's disgusting,' said Patrick Joseph, 62, who rents a room in the basement next to the one where Jean's body was found. 'She was only a 26-year-old girl.' The basement of the two-family home where Jean's body was discovered had been subdivided into single rooms separately rented out by individual tenants. Joseph told a Daily News reporter on Friday night that Jean's father used to rent the room next to his, in which the victim's body was found, but that the father had recently died. Jean occasionally stayed in the room following her dad's death, but typically resided somewhere else, according to Joseph. 'She stays here sometimes, but this was temporary,' he said. 'Her father dropped her off here when he was living here.' When asked where Jean lived, Joseph gave an address that police later identified as Roseau's, an apparent building on Snyder Ave. in Flatbush. Roseau is charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Marked NYPD cars, ambulance vandalized in NYC before anti-Trump protests
At least three marked NYPD cars and an ambulance were vandalized in the Big Apple between Friday night and Saturday morning, hours before thousands of anti-Trump demonstrators took to the streets, police said. A police cruiser was found parked at 73rd Street and Broadway in Jackson Heights, Queens, around 6 a.m. bearing yellow graffiti that read 'FTP,' which protesters use to mean 'f–k the police,' cops said. A second marked car was found a few hours later on East 152nd Street and Tinton Avenue in the Bronx at 9:20 a.m., with what cops believe was a slashed tire, a police spokesman said.
