Advocates want speed-limiting devices installed in repeat offenders' cars
MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Advocates are rallying on the steps of City Hall on Monday to call for more restrictions for people accused of speeding repeatedly. New York State Sen. Andrew Gounardes is sponsoring the Stop Super Speeders Bill, which would require speed-limiting devices to be installed in the cars of people found to be the worst of the worst offenders. The legislation follows a horrifying crash that killed a 34-year-old mother and her two daughters in a Brooklyn intersection. More Local News Miriam Yarimi, 32, was charged with manslaughter in connection with the crash. She allegedly has 29 red light and school zone speeding tickets, city councilmembers said. The top 10 super speeders in New York City got an average of 323 tickets, according to data from the nonprofit Transportation Alternatives. Driver set to appear in court in deadly Ocean Parkway crash that killed mother, 2 children in Brooklyn
Miriam Yarimi, the driver accused of killing a mother and her two children last month on busy Ocean Parkway in Midwood, Brooklyn, is scheduled to make her first in-person court appearance Wednesday. Yarimi faces three counts of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and several other charges in the March 29 crash . Earlier this month, the 32-year-old appeared for a virtual hearing from NYU-Langone hospital, where she was undergoing a psychological evaluation. Prosecutors say she made several statements while in custody, including, "I have the devil in my eye," "I need a whole work-up to get whatever is in my body," "Where's my daughter?" and "I didn't kill anyone." Natasha Saada, 34, and her two daughters, 8-year-old Diana and 5-year-old Deborah, were killed in the crash. Her 4-year-old son, Philip, was hospitalized with critical injuries. Police said Yarimi was speeding when her Audi A3 struck a Toyota Camry with five people inside before hitting the family as they crossed the street. Her record shows that she was driving with a suspended license and had more than 99 violations and 20 speeding tickets. "I will call it like it is. This was a horrific tragedy caused by someone who shouldn't have been on the road," NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said during a news conference at the scene . At her last court hearing, Yarimi's attorney said this is her first encounter with the criminal justice system and described her as an active member of her community. Members of the Brooklyn district attorney's office are expected to speak about the case after Wednesday's arraignment.

Unhinged wigmaker Miriam Yarimi allegedly attacked neighbor with hammer before horrific crash that killed mom, kids: court docs
The unhinged wigmaker charged in a horrific Brooklyn crash that killed a mom and her two daughters allegedly attacked a neighbor's apartment with a hammer last year, The Post has learned. Miriam Yarimi went on a deranged tirade last March at her Midwood apartment building — pounding on a neighbor's door as she screamed at the top of her lungs, according to an eviction petition filed by her landlord in Brooklyn civil court on April 24. Yarimi, 32 was 'verbally abusing, cursing, threatening, yelling, and screaming' and 'banging [a] hammer against the door' of her upstairs neighbor's apartment at 6:51 p.m. on March 24, 2024, according to court documents and the resident who endured the demented outburst. 'It was her,' the still-rattled female neighbor told The Post, referring to Yarimi, who lived on the third floor of the Avenue P building with her then-husband Shneur Kovitz. The neighbor, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, has 'no idea' why Yarimi went on the attack, during which a child was present, according to court papers. 'It's very emotional. . . . it's been too much,' said the woman, declining to provide more details. The door bash left puncture marks and damaged the entry keypad, police sources said. In the court docs, the landlord estimated $3,000 worth of damage was done. It is unclear why Yarimi wasn't charged with criminal mischief, which involves damage over $250. 'If the individuals in [the apartment] did not have their apartment door locked, you would have attempted to seriously injure them,' reads the eviction petition filed by building management company P and 21 LLC. 'Your conduct was dangerous and detrimental to the physical and emotional well-being of the residents in the building,' the court papers read. Yarimi's lease was terminated last April, and the eviction case is still pending. She and Kovitz have since divorced. The $3,150 monthly rent on the pad hasn't been paid since last April – bringing the total owed to $37,800, records show. The neighbor said Yarimi still lives in the Avenue P building, but police sources said she moved to a nearby Midwood apartment, though it is unclear when. Yarimi is being held without bail on manslaughter charges in the gruesome March 29 crash in Gravesend that killed 35-year-old mom Natasha Saada and her two daughters, Diana, 8, and Debra, 5. Their brother, 4-year-old Philip Saada was seriously injured, and remains in critical condition at Maimonides Medical Center. During Yarimi's arraignment on Thursday, prosecutors claimed she went on a bizarre rant to cops after she was busted in the deadly wreck. 'The devil's in my eyes,' she allegedly told police, according to a criminal complaint. 'I'm haunted inside. I didn't kill anyone. I don't hurt anyone. Prove it. Show me proof.' A former classmate previously told The Post Yarimi came from a 'nerdy religious' Jewish family and was 'screwed up' from a teen affair with a married NYPD cop. P and 21 LLC declined to comment. She allegedly had dozens of violations and $10,000 of unpaid fines. "I will call it like it is. This was a horrific tragedy caused by someone who shouldn't have been on the road. A mother and two young children ... killed, another child fighting for his life. A family and a neighborhood devastated in an instant," Tisch said during a press conference at the scene . "The NYPD sends its condolences to the family of the victims. May their memories be a blessing." BROOKLYN - The NYPD arrested 32-year-old Miriam Yarimi, the woman accused of causing a weekend two-car crash on Ocean Parkway that killed a mother and her two children as they crossed a street in Brooklyn. According to police, Yarimi's Audi struck a rideshare vehicle carrying four passengers – a mother and three children – at an intersection before hitting another mother and three children who were crossing the street. What we know Yarimi faces a slew of charges following Saturday's crash near Quentin Road in Gravesend, including: Three counts of second-degree manslaughter. Three counts of criminal negligent homicide. Four counts of second-degree assault. Officials say not only did Yarimi have a suspended license, but she also reportedly had 93 moving violations and $10,000 of unpaid fines. Yarimi also reportedly received a psych evaluation at Bellevue Hospital after she allegedly said some things to first responders immediately after the crash. The New York Post reports Yarimi "is a wigmaker by profession, something noted by the vanity plate of the Audi in the crash, which reads 'WIGM8KER.'" Timeline In what NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch described as a "horrific incident," the accident happened at an intersection on Ocean Parkway around 1:04 p.m. Saturday. Police said a 2023 silver Toyota Camry with TLC plates was traveling westbound and attempted to turn right onto northbound Ocean Parkway. As the Camry made the turn, a blue Audi A3 sedan traveling northbound on Ocean Parkway slammed into it. Tisch said the force of the crash pushed the Camry aside, while the Audi continued forward, hitting the mother and her three children before overturning. The mother and two of her children crossing the street were pronounced dead. The third child was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. The New York Post identified the victims as Natasha Saada and her two daughters – 8-year-old Diana and 5-year-old Debra. Police said Natasha's 4-year-old son, Philip, was "fighting for his life." The Toyota Camry's driver, a 62-year-old man, was also hospitalized in stable condition. The four passengers inside the Camry sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.
